yeah, there are people who blindly follow anything that apple does, and there are those who can't stand them. personally i like their operating system, but hate the fact that they charge their users so much to be able to use it, and on outdated hardware at that. they basically buy outdated hardware at a lower price in order to make a higher profit by charging their same high price. until people realize this, and learn a thing or two about how the computer industry works in terms of hardware updates, apple will continue ripping its customers off. they need to realize that their operating system is becoming popular, and more people want to buy it, but can't afford it because they can't justify spending several grand on a 15" laptop when they can buy an equally outfitted windows for a grand or less.

Well stated! This is exactly the point I was trying to get. I appreciate the Mac OS and overall quality of their product. However, I am not fond of a company who, in much hubris, claims to be an industry innovator yet sells outdated technology at premium prices. I would like nothing else than to see Apple refresh their product line and take Mobile computing to another level. I will be first in line if, in fact, their product is miles ahead of the competition.

For now, we just have to wait while Apple milks their costumers by selling them outdated technology at yesteryears prices.

I bought the stock MacBook Late 2007 with the SuperDrive. $79 worth of DDR2 RAM and a 320 GB hard drive later it still works.

I believe we're mostly on edge for a replacement or can't find the incentive to purchase with Apple's current offerings. I already bought into OS X. I like it and the applications are endearing. I'm just more interested in a M11x right now.

like here i am debating selling my 2ghz cd machine from 06 for a new mb and i have to ask myself if the improvments are worth it....

Everyone here complaining about the cost of the MBP in relation to its specs, why are you here? Is it to:

1. Vent your frustrations with Apple, and you want the whole world to know.
2. Just complain about Apple, and try to convince those who won't consider other PCs how stupid they are.
3. Try to convince others that there are viable options out there.

Y'all do understand that we have heard all of your arguments, ad nauseum. You are not going to convince anyone that Apple is ripping them off. People buy what they want to buy. Nobody needs someone constantly telling them they are getting ripped off. Especially, in a Mac forum. If you dislike Apple products, why don't you just buy the other PCs.

Why are you here ranting about Apple? Don't you have anything better to do?

Then don't buy it.

After being a Mac user for 14 years, it was finally the 164,937th post about "outdated technology at a premium price" that made me switch. Except that I didn't.

Because lordy knows that customer feedback isn't valued:rolleyes:

Of course it is. If you don't like it, don't buy it. That's feedback right there. Whining to people who are hearing it for the millionth time and have no control over Apple's specs or prices would seem a bit futile, wouldn't it?

Then why even have a forum?

If you don't like the thread, then you really don't have to participate as your efforts saying it's futile are futile themselves as people are still going to post these sentiments whether you like it or not.

I never claimed it was "customer feedback." You did. Sure, people will post their opinions on forums all the time, but if you really think you're telling Apple something by posting on here (and in many cases buying Macs anyway) you're a little detached from reality.

did anyone notice that the "bluray" option costs $500 for the sony vaio z and base is $1899?
I was hoping for some reasonable pricing with those vaios.. but dang sony.. dang...

Yeah, I didn't switch either, although I have been a Mac user for 7 years. The incessant, repetitious, and emotional ranting of the Mac bashers who have posted to this thread and others, you know who they are without the necessity of my naming names, has convinced me to unsubscribe from this thread. Actually, I blame myself for letting myself be ensnared in the first place. I should have known what was coming from the emotional title of the thread. The word, "TROLL," comes to mind. Shame on me. I should have known better.

they basically buy outdated hardware at a lower price in order to make a higher profit by charging their same high price.

Um, no. They have usually the ones who are the first to get rid of outdated standards and implement new ones.

I watched one of Steve Jobs presentations came out with the very first Macbook Pro. One of their main objectives in choosing a new processor was what he called "Performance per watt" The existing processors did not provide what he believed to be energy efficient based on its power consumption. Then the core 2 Duo came along and that had both performance AND used less power.

While some people only concerned with speed and power, Apple will use what they believe to be the best for their type of computers, not based on popular opinions.

Because it is, and this is an apple forum discussing apple products and potential releases if you didn't notice

I never said it was official feedback did I? It is a forum that is a tool to discuss speculations and what not

There's not much discussion going on in here. There seems to be two distinct sides. Those of you who want to bash Apple about their specs and ripping people off, and those who like Apple. Yeah, there are some who live in the middle.

What we have is a whole bunch of whining on how computer x has way better specs than the MBP, and we are getting ripped off. This has gone on for damn near 25 pages, and not one of you guys have raised a new or different argument than the ones you raised in page 1, 2, 3, etc. or other threads similar to this.

Once again if you don't like Apple and their policies or products, why are you here? Do you think you know better than all the consumers who buy Apple products. Why not go on Sony's, HP's, Toshiba's, Dell's, etc. forums and talk about their products there? Why come here?

Where do disenfranchised Mac users fall in?

Good question.:)

If you are disenfranchised, and upset with Apple's recent corporate policies, you really have 4 choices:

1. Buy a Windows-based PC - vote with your wallet.
2. Stay with Apple even though you would like better specs and more competitive prices.
3. Complain and do nothing.
4. Talk about all the great things the competitors are doing and how stupid Mac fanboys are for not seeing the light, even though you haven't bought one of their laptops yet.

I just don't see the value of doing 3 and 4 over and over, and over, again and again. We got it the 150,000th time.

It's not about Apple ripping people off and lacking Specs. It's more about Apple falling behind. Right Now, the current MBP line up does not hold any sort of competitive advantage. It does not have a competitive price, nor is it keeping up with the latest in technology. Of course, after a refresh that could change.

At the moment though, people in the market for a new high end computer Now may feel Apple is just not up to par with other current option. I believe That is what the article this thread has spawned off is ultimately about. Of course there are those who do not mind have outdated technology so long as it works for them. Unfortunately, some people here are too drunk off the Kool-Aide to accept that perhaps two year old hardware in 'Pro' Macs is not alright. I guess closed mindedness is a common trait amongst fanboys of any product base.

Voting with my wallet just isn't going to work though. I bring this up elsewhere but for every Mac I don't buy there are plenty more who will.

The userbase has taken a turn for the worse since the switch the Intel to be honest. The PowerPC days were much different. It's x86 in solid electricity or solid petroleum. After that the price just goes up.

I want to give Apple my money but there are many more enablers for their current policies. I'll admit when I'm on the business side I am evil. I just wish that Apple learned some humility and was the consumer once in awhile.

Samsung and other component vendors keep falling over and over again for Apple. The feedback loop makes me ill. Seeing people go head over heels with justifications for a corporation boggles my mind.

People aren't too drunk on the Kool-Aide, nor is it a common trait amongst fanboys. Did you ever think, no one really cares that much about the technology except for tech savvy people. Why do you care so much why other consumers will buy outdated Macs? Are you trying to save them from themselves. As long as you know you are not getting ripped off, that should be good enough for you. Y'all keep shouting but no one wants to listen. Buy your windows based PC and enjoy life.

I am a techie and I don't care. My iMac is sacred - all the important stuff is on there. But my mobile is a toy and I switch back and forth like crazy.

I just want a refreshed MBP because then I know it will give me 3 years before I get the urge to upgrade. My old uMBP did everything I needed except play games well enough for me. i5 and a new GPU will keep me playing Valve and Blizzard for years.

OOOOOOOO Portal 2, L4D2 and TF2 are going to be so awesome on the Mac!!!!

But people who are not obsessed with games will buy the current assortment and be happy.

No one is going head over heels with justification for Apple. And even if they were, why would you care? Are you losing sleep because of it? Are you getting stressed? Why are some of you getting so emotional. If you know you can't change the people who keep buying Apple products, why do you waste your time complaining about them and the Apple products they buy?

I've brought it up twice but I'll do it again.

Everyone went and ruined it for me.

Problem is number three accomplishes nothing and 4 doesn’t mean much unless you happen to be on Apple’s hardware team. Plus complaining has a big downside - it can get annoying (I am not accusing you of this) and lead to you (general) being ignored and dismissed as a troll.

Realistically speaking, Apple doesn’t care what we say here. Talking about the competition is something that Apple isn’t bothered by - it’s not like they are ignorant about the market at large.

Of course nobody is expecting you to change anything - especially here. You have better luck telling bar patrons to stop consuming beer and drink milk instead. Tactics like that are not going to go far. People don’t care enough.

Threads like this are a dime a dozen. I'm surprised I was dragged into this (again, not you it always happens) after only commenting on the fixation with processors.

What can you do in front of the all mighty corporation? My money doesn't matter.
