Yes this is true! If you have a iPad Pro and do the beta program you will get the 3 new wall papers that fit for that size iPad go check it out if you have one. ✌

What's wrong with the 12" model? Is the screen too small? Because otherwise it is a retina macbook air in every way.

There are so many things wrong with it. 1 port, no MagSafe, less battery life, keyboard not to many people's liking, very underpowered etc. It's a terrible replacement for the Air, its an ultra ultra portable, not a general purpose laptop like many use the Air as.

What 12" model? Do you mean the iPad? Or the 13" MacBook Pro? I thought the 13" Macbook pro without touch bar was basically the Air replacement (though they could drop the price a little more :)

Who knows, if Apple throws in mouse pointer / device support in iOS 11 for the new iPads it would inch them closer to being able to handle a little more "traditional desktop" work.

I think he means the 12 inch MacBook that essentially replaced the Air line. It's the perfect laptop, in my opinion.

All I know is that I won't be purchasing another ipad anytime soon. OLED 12.9" and much better integration with macOS would be required.

I prefer an update to the 12.9" iPad Pro instead. I love having the larger screen for viewing TV shows and movies on the go. I bought the standard size iPad Pro first, but really wanted the 12.9" after using the larger one in store. I sold my smaller iPad pro and bought the 12.9" iPad Pro cellular version soon after and love it! I do wish it had "Hey Siri" on it, but its not a big deal. I can't wait for an updated 12.9" with the new processor, upgraded camera, and hopefully some more hardware feature add-ons.

Apple should Discontinue 9.7 model as it will be close to 10.5 form factor and keep 7.9 inch model alive. it's the best Size tablet in my opinion.
If you mean that Apple should discontinue the $600 9.7" iPad Pro model after introducing the 10.5" iPad (at quite possibly also $600), I think that is pretty much the consensus of what people expect Apple will be doing. However, if you think Apple should discontinue the $330 9.7" iPad after introducing the (presumably) $600 10.5" iPad (Pro), because the two are too close in size, I highly doubt that Apple should or will do so. Apple added price segmentation based on features to (partially) replace price segmentation based on size.

Maybe. But is it really that big of a deal?

Like, potential customers are going to say... "Ehh.. Who cares about this stupid new iPhone 8, the 10.5" iPad already had narrow bezels!"
I just don't see those two as having that much to do with each other. And releasing them far apart actually increases the chances of a given individual buying both. If the iPhone 7 still sold as well as it did despite not having a fully new design, I don't see an earlier released new iPad hurting reception of the iPhone 8 just because there are some design language similarities between the two.

I don't massively disagree with what you've written but i am sceptical of Apple releasing a new iPad at WWDC.

The iPad line is fractured and if they were going to have introduce new products to the public why not release the 10.5 iPad and the recently released (cheaper) iPad at the same time. I don't see Apple releasing two different iPads only a few months apart. For me the new iPads get released in September/October but I'll be happy when I'm wrong on this ;)

It would probably be stupid because of the format that is best for viewing web pages, but I kind of wish Apple made a 16:10 aspect ratio iPad, especially for all the video content people consume on them.

I, and thousands of others, would prefer an updated MacBook Air with retina screen.
Apple has, the 12" MB is a retina version of the 11" MBA and the 13" MBP Escape is a retina version of the 13" MBA. Once you normalise the entry configuration (adding 4 GB of RAM to the 11" MBA and a 256 GB SSD to both 11" and 13" Airs), you pay a $300 premium to get the retina screen (which for Apple is not an unusual premium).

I believe this rumor about a new iPad pro at WWDC, and I can hear TC now...."Customers just love our new iPad at the lower price point, and here's our new shiny iPad pro that costs so much more! We know they will love it too! (insert al-u-min-i-um video here)

Problem is that it doesn't suit many people. It should be renamed the MacBook Air and the MacBook Air should be changed to MacBook and spec bumped. The 12 inch MacBook is the ultra portable, compromise on a lot of things to achieve the ultimate thin machine, basically the Air, where as the current Air is a general purpose Mac, it's thin enough without sacrificing things that a lot of average users use/need, thus why it should be called 'MacBook'.

I probably would have bought the new 10.5" right away but with the "$999 iPhone 8" on it's way, I'm going to hold off. Apple's become too expensive.

Correction: headline should read "increasing price," not "production. Apologies for the error. :D

Seriously- I'm interested, esp if it's lighter than the current 9.7 Pro and also has 3D Touch and improved multitasking. Not interested in price higher than current 9.7" price point. Also would like to see better designed pencil 2.0.

Also if Apple is able to get good ramp up of an OLED iPad screen then no excuse for slow ramp up of an OLED screen iPhone.

Yea I guess I see your point in regards to ports and such, but I think this is ultimately where Apple is going. I don't see them offering what you are looking for moving forward.

Apple's become too expensive.

Become? When was it inexpensive? My first Mac in 1988 was $3K, not adjusted for inflation. In 2000 my TiBook cost $2500. My first iPod in 2001 was something like $400. Apple has never be valued priced, except maybe the first Mac Pro, given what it offered vs competition at the time.

I, and thousands of others, would prefer an updated MacBook Air with retina screen. iPad sales have been falling for the last four years.

Actually thousands have been waiting for an iPad update. The reason for sales dropping is that its such a good device it doesn't need to be purchased every year. I myself am waiting to upgrade when the next round of iPads come out.

Get a MacBook. It's actually an amazing device. I thought it was a gimped air until I actually had one for a couple weeks. It was able to edit well in FCPX and play some halflife games on steam. They keyboard I got used to faster than I thought, even for gaming. It was faster at opening applications than my 2015 Pro.

Honestly, the only thing I would change is add an extra port and make a 14 inch version!

That sounds nice on paper, but aren't there orders of magnitude here? The iPad also has no 3D Touch, which I am sure has been a challenge on the iPhone OLED. 9 million iPads vs 78 million phones.

Unlikely an edge to edge display for the iPad would be announced before the new iteration of the iPhone which is also likely to be edge to edge.

The iPhone is the most important consumer product across all industries, I don't believe Apple is going to preview it with the iPad with the conventional iPhone announcement only months away....

Seems odd they'd have shipments of more than half a million in July but be storing them for the fall for months. What about announce at the developer conference and start deliveries this summer?

So, iPad consumer demand and orders are falling despite rising production and inventory. Yet pricing stays consistent? Only Apple!

People don't buy iPads because of the price. This means they value iPads more than any other tablet. For this reason there is no need for Apple to reduce prices.

Falling demand is known to be happening across the whole category of tablets, so reducing prices to drive greater volume is of limited effectiveness and serves to reduce margins overall. And it also impacts any reputation for premium products.

We know Apple is less concerned about market share & volumes compared to other players, and that some 89-90% of the profits available in the smart phone & tablet markets go to Apple.

Given all this there is absolutely no reason today for Apple to reduce pricing.

I don't know, the rumours are saying the Air will get an update at WWDC. I can bet you that the Air is still the biggest seller. I deal with a lot of average computer users and the Air is the only one most would consider. It is also their only Mac that makes any sense for the education sector. Besides the smaller form factor and retina display, the 12 inch MacBook is a step backwards in almost every way from the Air. The loss of MagSafe has got to be one of the stupidest things ever. My MacBook Pro would have died 30 minutes ago when I tripped over the power cable had it not been for MagSafe.
