while for the 9.7" is nice to shrink down the bezels and make a BIGGER display...i think for the larger 12.9" the way to go is to KEEP the display size but thanks to shrink down bezels to have a more compact and lighter device

funny how Apple is imitating Samsung's see-what-sticks model. Tim is just too envious of Samsung.

So, iPad consumer demand and orders are falling despite rising production and inventory. Yet pricing stays consistent? Only Apple!

Going off what I see at my university, iPad Pro is getting destroyed by Surface. I've seen only 3 iPad Pros in the wild since release. I see 3-5 Surface tablets a day.(No, I'm not exaggerating)

While Apple still sells way more iPads, I have to wonder what percentage are actually iPad Pros. My conclusion is that at the near $1000 level, most would rather buy a full PC than an iOS device. I love iPads, but Apple is clearly in la la land.

So 0.8 of an inch is big enough for you to do serious work in comparison to 9.7? I hardly think this makes much difference.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm also in the camp with Mental Floss's post. I also think that the 0.8 inch makes a real difference--at least if you are using an apple pencil to mark up documents or draw. That little difference is quite small in numbers, but in terms of fitting the pencil in the margins of papers and whatnot, it would make a difference for me. (I've found myself constantly wishing for just a 0.5 inch extra....)

Also, that 0.8 extra makes a PDF image just close enough to 8.5 x 11 inches like a standard sheet of paper to feel (to both my eyes and my hands) that I can work interchangeably in either electronic or print format. So, yeah....

Same here.
I love iPads, but I'm not willing to spend more than $500 on that kind of device.
The pro definitely has a market, but I wonder how big that market is. How many people do actually need pencil to draw on a tablet and are forced to buy the pro instead of a cheaper iPad?

I'd really like to replace my iPad mini 2 with an iPad mini Pro....but it looks like Apple is going to discontinue the iPad mini. Bummer. I guess I'll go with the rumored 10.5" bezel-less iPad Pro when it comes out...but I'm gonna miss being able to carry my iPad in my cargo pants pocket like I can with my mini. I would get the iPad mini 4, but as an artist, I really want to be able to use the Apple Pencil. The iPad mini is the perfect portable size. Oh well.

The *only* thing which will make the iPad relevant again to consumers, is a better OS UI which takes advantage of all that screen real estate.

In 2007 and 2010, iOS enabled users to get things done in a much easier way when compared to competitors. Today, iOS seems to be "in the way" of getting things done. Things require too many presses and swipes, etc.

Apple's hardware advances alone are not enough. IMHO

Yes.
I hardly think this makes much difference. Really, is that what you are saying?
Yes.
Now the forums will be flooded with users wondering if that small a difference is actually worth changing for - based on screen size alone.
Or they will be flooded by people who think that others are wrong to believe that this larger screen size is enough for them. For everyone who thinks that something will work well for them, there is at least one person who knows their own personal requirements better than they do.
Have you measured just how small that increase is and how is really won't make much of a difference at all?
Wow, that was a clumsily phrased suggestive question.

Have you measured just how big that increase is and how it really makes a large difference for my personal requirements?

Apple has been criticized for many things but lack of marketing prowess isn't one of them.

I love this site!

Rumors become facts in 0.0002 picoseconds, and rumors of production of rumored iPads are cause for celebration and joy, arguments, and hatred!

Speaking of that, I hear that Apple will be building their newest wafer fabrication plant on top of the San Andreas Fault.

(Let's see how far this one gets...)

Once Apple goes OLED with the iPad (perfect blacks, no backlight), I think adjustable bezels, controlled via the OS, could be interesting. Zero bezels when docked into the Smart Keyboard and a bit of a bezel when it's not. I'm not sure how that would work with scaling/ resolution though within the individual apps. Might not be practical. Ultimately I'd like to see Apple do something radically different with iOS 11. The hardware really isn't the problem.

Apple is a huge company, and the iPad and Mac divisions are each huge. Doing one thing (update the iPad) has absolutely no bearing on Apple as a company being able to do the other (update the MBA). The release timing may be affected, but that's all.

If only this were true? Apple has proven time and time again, at least recently, that they can only work on one, that is 1, next big thing at a time. And that they consider all releases the next big thing, even when we laugh at Cook when he says it. There is simply no other explanation for the long overdue Mac, iMac, and MacBook updates. All of which are required for developers attending WWDC.

To expect a minor revision of an iPad to be news breaking for WWDC is quite simply idiotic on Apple's part (and I know Apple did not release this, but this stuff would not be coming out if Apple wasn't trying to set the stage.)

I don't massively disagree with what you've written but i am sceptical of Apple releasing a new iPad at WWDC.

The iPad line is fractured and if they were going to have introduce new products to the public why not release the 10.5 iPad and the recently released (cheaper) iPad at the same time. I don't see Apple releasing two different iPads only a few months apart. For me the new iPads get released in September/October but I'll be happy when I'm wrong on this ;)

My guess is that because the budget 9.7 doesn't really warrant any type of introduction, while the 10.5 does. Why waste time at the keynote discussing an iPad with old tech?

Assuming this is the same footprint of the 9.7" model, just no home button, this makes no sense to me to debut at WWDC. I imagine such a device will be unveiled on the same day as the redesigned iPhone.

I don't see the appeal. Slightly larger screen but less space for a keyboard. Why not just take the form factor of the 9.7 inch and make it bezel-less?

I didn't remember any leak (pics) about this product, did I miss something or they managed to keep it secret?
Leaks don't tend to be as frequent with other devices as with the phone. This starts to make a bit of sense though when you consider it with recent rumors about the fate of the iPad mini. Why keep around four different models that are all slightly different in size? Plus if they can get a handle on the manufacturing on an edge to edge design then we are probably going to be introduced to the future of iPad. That design will soon move to the iPad Pros and the mini will get no updates, a reduction in price to $249/299, then just sold until nobody wants one anymore. Then the hammer will fall. The did exactly that with the iPad 2.

I think CristianM must be talking about the Mac Book, a small portable retina Mac. Sad to see the smaller of the two AirBooks disappear. Of course the design has not changed it is perfect!

Still "rockin'" my iPad 3 which however no longer accepts iOS updates. Frownie cry-ey face ;-( but the 10.5 looks perfectly good as a replacement. But is it necessary anymore now that the phones are so large? Decisions decisions I just want to see the Watch 3 before I decide anything

I agree. It's been leaked. There hasn't been much more than the 10.5" rumors and some basic feature additions. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an updated 12.9" released at the same time with similar or better features.

Maybe a 13.3" in the same form factor.

Also increase the functionality of the Pencil.

I think this won' t happen, because they would have to introduce a new higher res to achieve the same ppi as the current 12.9. A shrink of the bezels of the 12.9 inch would be great though.

Money ready when you are Apple. Still on my iPad 3 Retina! Been waiting for something significant to upgrade to!

The true Pro tablet is not an iPad Pro, it is a Mac tablet (even if not Pro!). You cannot compare iOS to macOS.

Depending on the price I may upgrade from my air 2 to this. If it was kept the same as the old iPad pro I might get it. Although my air 2 still works very well.
