You misunderstood the post. This is about increasing pre-production for a product that has not been released yet.So, iPad consumer demand and orders are falling despite rising production and inventory. Yet pricing stays consistent? Only Apple!

I think they should put a 10.7" display in the 12.9" form factor with BIGGER bezels.while for the 9.7" is nice to shrink down the bezels and make a BIGGER display...i think for the larger 12.9" the way to go is to KEEP the display size but thanks to shrink down bezels to have a more compact and lighter device
"Apple's pace on phasing out the iPad mini 4 from the market", according to sources"
None of the iPad models this year will be edgeless, they're just gonna have smaller bezels.Unlikely an edge to edge display for the iPad would be announced before the new iteration of the iPhone which is also likely to be edge to edge.
The iPhone is the most important consumer product across all industries, I don't believe Apple is going to preview it with the iPad with the conventional iPhone announcement only months away.
However, I would like to see three versions of the iPad Pro - 10.5, 12.9 and a new Mini also with an enlarged edge to edge display. They would all simply be known as iPad Pro.
What's wrong with the 12" [macbook]? Is the screen too small? Because otherwise it is a retina macbook air in every way.
I'm in that weird spot where I wan't something bigger than my current 9,7-inch iPad as I mostly use it as a display in bed, as a secondary display at work etc.. And the 9,7-inch display, while handy for travelling is just a tad bit too small for what I use it for.
But grabbing the iPad Pro 12,9-inch doesn't make any sense at this point as it's getting old, and the pricing like with most Apple products is too expensive considering how old it is. I hope this new 10,5-inch might be big enough, but I doubt it and for me it's really weird that Apple does not update their "Pro" iPad more often.
Completely agree. Apple might be one of the few companies in the world that can balance falling demand and less orders shipped with consistent production, all while maintaining or exceeding profit margins. Not many others can keep up at that pace and almost continually come out ahead each quarter.People don't buy iPads because of the price. This means they value iPads more than any other tablet. For this reason there is no need for Apple to reduce prices.
Falling demand is known to be happening across the whole category of tablets, so reducing prices to drive greater volume is of limited effectiveness and serves to reduce margins overall. And it also impacts any reputation for premium products.
We know Apple is less concerned about market share & volumes compared to other players, and that some 89-90% of the profits available in the smart phone & tablet markets go to Apple.
Given all this there is absolutely no reason today for Apple to reduce pricing.
I was giving kudos to Apple in general even though the tablet market has been declining for almost three years now. Apple has been able to buck this trend and still come out ahead almost every quarter. Deep pockets and a great product will get you far.You misunderstood the post. That 10.5 inch iPad Pro would be an instabuy for me, unless the price is somehow really ridiculous. I need a note-taking device for work that I can have with me at all times. The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is simply too big to carry it around all the time. The 9.7 inch iPad is just a little bit too small for serious work. So this would be the perfect compromise.
But I won't wait for it much longer, because I have basically needed it for two months already and held out due to the rumours. If it turns out that I have to wait until October, then I will try to find an alternative solution. Apple can't complain about declining iPad sales if they don't push new stuff into the market ASAP.
So 0.8 of an inch is big enough for you to do serious work in comparison to 9.7? I hardly think this makes much difference. Really, is that what you are saying? Now the forums will be flooded with users wondering if that small a difference is actually worth changing for - based on screen size alone. Have you measured just how small that increase is and how is really won't make much of a difference at all? Personally there would need to be a hell of a lot more going on other than such a tiny screen size increase to even consider it.

It is not "edge to edge" that is just a misinterpretation. 10.5" inside the 9.7" frame is definitely much slimmer, but there is still some bezel. And more than enough room for the top and bottom bezels/Home Button.Unlikely an edge to edge display for the iPad would be announced before the new iteration of the iPhone which is also likely to be edge to edge.

This is a 9.7" iPad with the display increased to 10.5".
