I’m sure you can use the adapter on the end of your wire in those situations.
Which is an unneeded complication. I'm sure people can put up with the 3.5mm jack which has literally no negative impact on their lives.

I imagine most people use their iPads primarily in landscape.
Steve would have removed it only if there was a direct standardised replacement (like USB-C). Lightning headphones are the biggest inconsistency and joke. Steve wouldn't have allowed that.
What is the logic behind this sentiment? You can move on and go wireless with the current devices that have a headphone jack. No need to wait for this new iPad. Bluetooth is well established and there are countless options for those who want to go that route, so a "forced march" to wireless in order to grow the market is not necessary in this case.
And you say it is about going wireless, not because it limits the thinness, so that isn't your reason for wanting it removed. I just find it puzzling.
People will buy Apple products regardless of what they do now.... People have told me for years in relation to companies who sell more than Apple that sales is not equal to quality, but it apparently is in relation to Apple.

So what are these great benefits of AirPods and what prevents them from falling out like EarPods do?

I think it is 99.9% of the people use the iPad in landscape mode. Portrait mode is fine for iPhone!
Going wireless is BS. Most of the time is consumed by charging the wireless phones instead listening music!

Your friends must be doing something wrong. I very rarely have to enter the passcode on my iPhone X. However, I will agree with previous posters who have said that vertical only FaceID is annoying and unnecessary.
Nobody uses lightning headphones and Apple doesn’t expect them to. If you haven’t tried AirPods or a similar Bluetooth solution yet, I can tell you it’s a huge improvement. If you’re not ready to move on from attached headphones, you’ve still got the tiny little adapter you can permanently attach to your old headphones, no big deal.
Please stop the conjecture as to what Steve would or wouldn’t do. There’s probably only two people on the planet who might, note might, have an idea about that. You’re not one of those people.
Move with the times. Wireless is the Future. Get a Bluetooth device!
I'd give you half a million quid if you could reliably spot the difference between wired and headphones using AAC or APTx without just guessing.
A2DP came out way before he died.Doesn't matter, shown ads, money made.
During his short lifespan, Steve seen a lot of that, made a lot of that, if Steve were alive, he would remove the headphone jack the moment A2DP came out (much earlier).
The guy has been dead for 7 years. Give it up already.I miss Steve. He was smart enough to see that people did not like the idea of them removing the 3.5mm jack from the phones. Tim appears to have the attitude of, "Hey if everyone hated it then we should do that on our products as well" None of this would be going on if Steve was still running Apple.
I use my mini in both orientations. My iPad Pro almost exclusively in landscape but that’s because I very rarely take it out of the Smart Keyboard. All my previous, larger iPads I used in both orientations. I think it’s the Smart Keyboard than made me change. I have a kindle for reading and I haven’t read a magazine for a long time but if I were using it for those purposes I’d use it in portrait mode.I disagree.
You’re completely underestimating the number of people using it minus keyboard, reading and browsing in portrait mode. When mine isn’t attached to the Smart Keyboard, I never ever use it in landscape. I’m not alone.
Landscape/portrait both have their place.
If we’re talking purely about the 12.9”, then yes, vast majority of use is likely landscape.
What absolute nonsense. I’m not advocating for jack removal (although I don’t use it), but this statement is totally incorrect.

You have absolutely NO idea what are you talking about. What made EarPods fall from ears was NOT the shape of it, instead, it was the lightness of the earbuds combined with the torque force from the cables (jumping up and down as you walk, jog and so forth). The AirPods DO stay wonderudlly in your ears even when you’re running - all because they do not have the ancient chords/cables to move them around and out of your ears.
This has been shown over and over since the AirPods release.

Not [sure] why the iPad needs a headphone jack..wasn’t aware people use it.
Yeah its a terrible idea to standardise your mobile devices... lets keep that 1878 vibe alive.
