How to know if you are using the problematic RAM

How do u know if you are using the problematic TLC NAND chips. Is there a utility to test it. I also noticed in my earlier postings that there seems to be quite a bit of slowdown on the iPhone 6 Plus compared to the regular iPhone 6. My wife one seems snapper than the Plus.. it should be not be so

All things being equal, I'm very happy I opted for the 64GB IP6+ over the 128GB. I actually ordered the 128GB, but returned it because I couldn't justify the cost increase.

Me too, 64GB is perfect, don't have to worry about anything.

Originally got the 16GB, but thought why not go all out? :D

Apple obviously believes there is an issue & replacing HW? Really? I must have missed that statement form Apple announcing this. But I guess the tech site with a poor rumor track record is all the evidence you need, right? And you need to do a little more reading. A LOT of people with large libraries were the ones reporting this.

Here's a clue: one tech site rumor does not equal fact.

It took Apple to 2 weeks to say anything about antenna issues so I hardly think Apple staying silent is an indication of anything to be frank. By the way, this story is a number of days old and has been reported a long time before it turned up here.

You should test your stuff first before using it in your products and sell said products for obscene prices.

Oh GTFO. What was the affected user base on this? There are many issues in hardware and software that will never see the light of day... until you have MILLIONS of people using it. There is no way to QA for such things.

i also have a launch day iPhone 6 plus and also have not experienced any issues as stated in the thread. Have only about 10 GB left of storage too.

You obviously don't understand test engineering.
Testing is only limited by time.
Anything can be tested if the tester/engineer can be creative and generate the proper test cases/use cases, not focus on JUST meeting specs.

Tests are compressed to meet a release deadline.
To meet the release deadline, risks must be taken if test time is compressed.

Apple just skipped testing a LOT of trivial things this time around & serious issues that crop up frequently reflect their lack of testing.

Since TLC NAND FLASH stores 1.5 times data, therefore your 128GB becomes 85GB. I ask myself a lot about how a software fixes hardware issues. For example the ANTENNAGATE how in the world a bad antenna design can be fix with software. Apple did promised a software fix update on this. They ended up fixing the carrier signal indicator showing a much more bars than it used to. My point is how do we know if it's really a fix or just software manipulation and trickery. After all what we see in the user interface, is not the exact representation of what is actually going on inside. How do we know if the fix is actually showing my actual available space. Since I can only now store 1.5x less data in the memory. How do I know after the update that I can still store 128GB worth of data, since I paid extra $200 for it. How do I know if that number showing is my actual capacity. How do I know if I only got an actual 2% battery life by the end of the day. How?

How do you know you actually exist?

Yet another reason to wait after the launch of a new product until the bugs are worked out.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I have 128 GB 6 Plus...I have no issues. I also haven't filled it to the brim with content. I'm sure I represent 99% of all users with 128 GB devices.

Sometimes products have glitches. You'll never use anything if you think you're going to wait out every issue.

You sound like a 60 year old man with a flip phone that says, "why do i need a smartphone, i hardly use all my minutes now"

Thank God for this article!

I haven't had any issues, ever, but now that I know this "information", I can be on the look out for something that hasn't happened to my 64GB 6, and may or may not happen.

I don't think I have that many fingernails to chew in paranoid anticipation.

I actually know what test engineering is and your pulling this straight from the air with no proof at all of what you advance.

If there is a bad batch with low enough failure rate, its possible Apple wouldn't find out until a substantial amount are shipped and returned. BTW, Apple is not the one producing those chips; Apple must rely that the producer is actually testing them decently before shipping to them.

This is not correct. Here is a summary of the different NAND FLASH topologies:

SLC - 1 bit per cell (2 voltage levels, i.e. on/off)
MLC - 2 bits per cell (4 voltage levels)
TLC - 3 bits per cell (8 voltage levels)

Ah, not the first time acronyms get me. The concept (extrapolated) is still the same.

Thanks by your technical explanation! I believe your words and I think they have sense (from my technical background) ;), but your comment is opposite from what all the medias says . They say:

- TCL is smaller die size, cheaper but slower than MCL or SCL
- MCL is bigger die size, so more expensive and faster than TCL

So, they said that TCL being smaller and cheaper, that was the reason of Apple to use them.

So, are all the technical media wrong from their articles, and they propagated a wrong rumor background data? (Could be, I dont know , what do you think?)

Yeah I got the acronyms backward, sorry about that.

Most of the reviews indicate that the graphics performance of the 6 Plus is less than the 6 due to the increase in pixels it is operating on in the background. I'm guessing that is what you are seeing.

no problems with mine.

obscene? right on par w/ the flagship google and samsung models.

sounds like you need to work more hours? get a better education, maybe?

From what I understand, if you have a 128GB iPhone 6+ and you load the thing up with 100 apps or more, the phone starts exhibiting these crash issues. Apparently it only happens if you have a boatload of apps installed on there, and does not occur if you only have 2-3 pages of Apps. This is happening to people that have several hundred Apps installed...

Its a RUMOUR

Here's my RUMOUR.

1. Samsung Sales are down - FACT
2. Samsung Executives told - do anything to fix sales NOW
3. Executives cant copy iPhone6 yet
4. Brainwave - kill off iPhone6 sales - if sales dont come to Samsung, then at least they can go to CEO and say sales are down for all companies.
5. Seed a Korean Subservient publication with rumour
6. Increase Blogger bonus and introduce incentives for Trolls
7. Retire to local Hof and toast success....:D

haha this is funny

I have 100GB on mine a little more even but less than 100 apps

EDIT: sorry didn't mean to quote this
