It was a nice try but they really need to just cut that line. Mini, plus, now this. All sales bombs? Just do regular and pro max. That’s all that is needed.
I agree - I understand the appeal of having multiple options for everyone, but the product lineup is too cluttered imo. You've got the 16e replacing the SE 2, then you've got the Regular, Pro, Air (basically a thinner Pro) and Pro Max (bigger Pro). Same with the iPad - iPad Mini, Regular, Air11, Air 13, Pro 11, Pro 13, etc.

After a while you're giving your customers option paralysis.

Calm down, just give it a Killer App and it will be fashionable and sell like hotcakes

iPhone Air sold well in China when its eSIM finally got regulatory approval for compatibility with PRC’s internal surveillance network. I believe that’s a first for eSIMs but I’m not up to date on the latest Chinese phones. If you live in PRC or have a family member or friend who works there, you have to use WeChat because it’s the only game in town. It would actually be a great do it all app if it wasn’t used for state surveillance. Everything on WeChat is computer screened against a list of “bad” words which you quickly learn to avoid. If a bad word is detected, your account is flagged for human investigation which is something you do NOT want.

Wow ...

That is so dystopian.

I don't think those of us on the outside can really truly comprehend what that's like and how bad it actually is.

Quite a few complainers here, but I wonder how many of those complainers would be complaining if they sold millions of a $999 device. The fact is that we do not know how many Airs need to be sold for Apple to consider it to be a viable product.

Gee, color me surprised. A device with so many compromises and only one clear benefit, the thinness, but still having to deal with the massive bump on top.

But I don't know why it cannot exist, Can't Apple simply offer these devices for those who want it, and just not expect to sell 100's of millions of them? Same with an iPhone mini. I knew a lot of people who liked them, despite their compromises too, which was mostly battery.

They don't need to update these every year. A 2 year cycle for a mini or air would be fine with many people. Oh and here's an idea, in the 2nd year cut the price by $200.

It didn't sell well in China.

The Air was approved with required firmware changes, which meant there was virtually zero inventory available on launch day. This is why all colors and storage sizes show a 1-2 week wait time.

They should’ve made an Air mini… or an Air Pro mini to make the naming and lineup even more fun and confusing. But really, a mini of any sort would’ve been nice instead of another big phone that is small in the wrong way
The Mini was already plagued by poor battery life back when it was “thick”. An Air Mini does make sense if Apple upgrades to Silicon Carbon battery tech or something to squeeze more mAh out of a smaller physical battery.

This is a full lie. China is sold out. US is sold out. Global is sold out. These companies are SPREADING LIES and scam info.

These are the same “companies” that said Vision Pro production halted.
Is it really? I just checked out the online Apple Store...the Air has next day delivery. The 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max are all still 2-3 weeks out.

I like the Air, but I also liked the Mini and never bought that either. As much as I like the idea of them being around, I can't argue with your logic.

Yes, I’m not sure why they keep on trying with a 4th “current” model when they haven’t had any success no matter what the size. That said, the rumored foldable phone is probably the size of two iPhone Air models so this may have been a way to recoup R&D spending. The “e” the “regular” and “Pro” fit into the “good/better/best” model that works for the iPad lineup. Pro Max makes sense because those looking for a big phone likely also are looking for the “best” model.

I suppose there is iPad mini as a niche model, so perhaps Apple sees potential for a niche iPhone, but I wonder if the foldable iPhone will cannibalize the mini (I’m guessing price will keep the iPad mini around).

1) Learn what the definition of "scam" is. That isn't what one is

2) A lie is being spread here, but it isn't by them. It can be purchased in the USA for same day processing.

3) Vision Pro next generation production is what was mentioned and that still could be true. The M5 spec bump is not a true Vision Pro 2. Until there is a VP2, those rumors were accurate.

I might buy an iPhone air and just keep it in its box sealed and maybe in 30 years time it will be worth something at an auction.
Some Apple products certainly apply. I’d say the trashcan Mac Pro, Vision Pro and iPhone Air.

It's cute that you think the Air isn't also a "brick phone". It's the same type of phone. Just because its slightly thinner and slightly lighter, doesn't make it any less of a brick.
?? You say "Just because its slightly thinner and slightly lighter, doesn't make it any less of a brick."

IMO the term brick does not simply reference the shape of the phone. So yes, if its slightly thinner and slightly lighter it is less of a brick. E.g. I would not call an iPhone the size of an iPod Nano a brick.

Even IF they’re not just looking to increase their search rankings, reducing sales by 1 million won’t be noticed by anyone paying close attention. That’s less than 84,000 a month for a company that, across all lines, will easily clear just under 17 MILLION iPhones per month. I could say they’re reducing iPhone Air by 2 million a month and increasing the others 3 million a month and at these numbers (since Apple doesn’t report unit sales), I’d be just as accurate as this company.

They’re essentially “announcing” that “We’re predicting sales will be different by some imperceptible amount that you’d never be able to prove either way and we know Apple’s not going to correct us.” And whatever Apple does say, they can say, “See? The number was SUPPOSED to be 1 million higher than that. We were right!”
