Apple Said to Have Declined Offer From Sony to Host 'The Interview' on iTunes

Why are you calling for someone to be fired because of their private emails? I'm sure you have nothing to hide in all of your private correspondences so you won't mind if I release them to all of your employers or employees. My point is that everyone I know including me has written and said things that would get us fired in this knee jerk, guilty liberal world. We should be held accountable by our actions, not our words or our thoughts.

Like I said, if it was a black making racist jokes about Jews, it would be a whole different ball game, private or not.
Also with her salary pay and stature, I would be a wee bit more careful and think twice before exchanging such emails. Oh, but it's private, so its all ok. Sorry, my bad.

Really disappointed and disgusted that Apple declined to show this! Really shows how little they are concerned about free speech and how much they want to pander to China!!!

Guess I'll watch it on Xbox and start looking at that service a lot more over iTunes and Apple TV...

On another note I hope this movie good or bad sets new income records for a movie! I would love to see simultaneous releases online for purchase as well as the theater...selfishly of course since I have a theater at home.

Of course Apple won't distribute it. North Korea are best friends with China. Apple's manufacturing is in China and Apple wants to sell in China.

You hit the hammer right on the nail. Apple treads very lightly when it comes to China. Maybe it would be wise for Apple to consider moving some production of their most popular products to other parts of the world, including the US if possible. They can keep some production in China, but not enough to give China too much influence in Cupertino.

Tim Cook... CEO of the year?

As always, playing it safe..

Agreed what a joke! I really love Apple products but this is enough to make me reconsider! What a *********** company! And really hypocritical since they make a big stir pretending to be for LGB rights etc...Guess they could care less about free speech...

The joke is your logic. Because its always Apple's fault and not the hundreds of other companies refusing the movie as well?

Apple once again dropped the ball here.

Now I have to get a google account so I can buy it at Google store (no xbox and no idea how youtube thing works).

Thank you for companies that have the balls to stand up to terrorist threats.

I'm disgusted with any company who is refusing to release it. I just happen to be a huge Apple customer(iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, iPhone etc) and believe in their products...As a customer and fan of Apple I'm incredibly disappointed.

Pretty gutless, Apple

Pretty gutless, Apple.

Is Apple still an American company???

I think we got your point, just take your business elsewhere and be happy. Simple, no?

What's next? An American comedy film killing the prophet Muhammed?

Yeah, only in America.

What's interesting is that the Interview is made by Canadian producers, on Canadian soil, partially funded by Canadian taxpayers. I've only seen a single news article pointing out this fact. :p

The only reason I responded again is to clarify a point since I was quoted by someone in response...And I will take my business elsewhere...to a real American company with the Balls to show it...

There is a lot of things to consider here but I have to admit that if Microsoft and Google are stepping up Apple should have as well.

Backbone

This country needs more Backbone - It starts with the Obama Administration
China has recently passed the US in manufacturing. I can care less about what was written in private emails it's really not my business and I am not a racist I hate everyone equally. I own several Apple Products. I was considering getting a Retina iMac but after this I will be reconsidering. We are visualized by the rest of the world as cowards. We need to stand up for our rights and grow a set.
It would also be really nice if Apple and other big US companies would manufacture more products inside of our borders which would create jobs and keep the money local. With all the illegals now coming in legally we need more jobs for the people to fill. I was talking to someone the other day that in New York some of the classrooms now have over 60 students in them with one teacher.

And I fully 100% understand their rational in refusing to release it. Apple is trying to make a big impact in Asian markets(namely China) and they don't want to piss off the Chinese gov't and potentially harm their relations....

With all of that said there are some things that should come before profit and this is one of them. The dangerous precedent this type of hack sets and the cowardly reaction of all the major theater chains and many of the online content providers sets up a really scary future stage for morons like the North Koreans and Chinese to simply hack and threat away any content they disagree with.

Just waiting until it leaks and now it's going to be shown at cinemas in a limited release I'm sure copies will appear within days if not hours of it being shown.

Logic??? Timmy stands up and gets politically involved when it suits him, but when something like freedom of speech and threats to the public are at hand, he shows no leadership... No one made a universal statement that Apple is always at fault... so not sure what logic you are referring too. Just that we expect Apple to show leadership.. because they are viewed as a leader in social and environmental stewardship.

And some companies are showing the movie (Mircosoft through xbox, google), and some aren't.... so not sure what your point is... I think his point is sometimes it's ok to criticize apple, not everything they do is golden....

Can't believe the utter arrogance of Sony and the writer of this ridiculous film.... Hey let's make an American comedy where we kill the most repressive, violent, threatening, secretive dictatorship alive that hates the west and especially America, and he wants nukes! I'm sure they'll find it funny..

Yeah, only in America.

This x 1,000.

For some reason this whole thing brings to mind that famous scene at the end of "A Christmas Story"....."Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra, Ra Ra, Ra, Ra" :p

I think I can live without seeing this movie.

Korea rules, so thinks Apple!

Some people have no respect for foreign leaders, whether allies or not. Either it is spying or making dangerous comedies. All they care for is money; yes, I know, freedom of speech, whatever they want to see, blah, blah, blah,.... sickening.

Oh good, I am very glad of that someone has some common sense in this mess.

I just hope Sony's arrogance doesn't lead to the PlayStation Network being hacked all week!

Sorry for the rant, but I just couldn't believe how stupid they are making this film.
As for Team America, that was taking the mickey out of Americans as much as Koreans and is not exactly real life actors..

Speaking of stupid, this post is a real contender.

Not that it really matters, but as someone else pointed out, The Interview is largely a Canadian venture.

Monty Python already did a take on Jesus, Zeus has been featured in a comedy or two, so I don't see why another figure from popular mythology cannot be made fun of. There is no historical evidence that any of these personages ever existed, so it should be even less of an issue than making fun of the rather comical, but at least very real, NK leader.

Cheers!

What a coward move by Apple to give in to the hackers. Thought better of them but after the report from Shenzhen it really doesn't surprise me anymore.

A hacked sony email released today reveals this has all been a publicity stunt for what is effectively a really poorly made and scripted movie. The leaked email from sony shows how they conspired to drum up publicity to atleast make some money back. Outside theatres interviews find 99.9% of people say "I wouldn't have come if they hadn't pulled it. Im only here because I can't think for myself... it must be a great film. When the movie hits the rental stores it breaks box office records. Twitter is later filled with hashtags #thatmoviesucked #whydidIbother #nowondertheypulledit #feelsuchanidiot #itwasjustapublictystunt

Yes they leaked over 10'000 personal emails, personal information on over 4000 employers and some of their own movies that have just been released or not even been out yet, causing hundreds of million dollars in damages and lawsuits just to promote this movies...seriously the level of stupidity and ignorance some of you people stoop to is incredible -.-
