This won't happen. Rumor = false. Come on....Do I need to explain the history of iPhone? I already see lots of iPhone 7s and don't think Apple is so desperate to release this completely new iPhone 8 this early in 2017 (because it won't be 7S).

Eliminate the stupid camera bump... so what if the phone is 1mm thicker? That gives more volume and maybe that volume allows for inclusion of other things like a bigger battery. And better yet, the phone won't wobble on the camera lens!
I don't think there is any phone that fully follows that approach, the best you'd get is a wedge like the Pixel (and a wedge is not the most space-efficient design, even if you do things like a terraced battery).

I used an s7 edge and note 7 before they were recalled for a while. I really didn't like the edge screen. The colors change around the edges, when you hold it you are always pressing the screen. Even though edge rejection is decent, it's still not perfect and randomly things get pressed or scrolled. Not sure why everyone is obsessed with this edge thing.

Increasing screen size would either change pixel count (problem for apps and developers) or pixel size (worse screen). Probably Apple will release the same 4.7 inch in a smaller body, and then a 5.8 inch that finally removes the need for scaling to 1920x1080 on the plus model.
The scaling on the 5.5" model already takes care of developers needing to hit a particular resolution. More likely Apple will move the 4.7" iPhone (or 5" if it that is what it will turn out to be) to a 3x resolution (up from 2x).

Looks like they can't go back to 3.5 jack now, can they? Hopefully they wireless charging ready.

I look forward to upgrading to next years redesign. In the meantime I still enjoy my iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is an incredible 3 per cent (!) thinner than the iPhone 7. Not only that, but it comes with an absolutely revolutionising new feature called a headphone jack. It's the future of mobile phones. Today!

I suggest you get in line if you want to make me an offer.

I really don't understand why anyone would think Apple is breaking away from their tick/tock cycle. Next year will debut the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus if history has taught us anything. Is there any real reason to believe otherwise? Genuinely curious if anyone has a legitimate reason.

Cuz the iPhone 7 is really an 6SS and i assume the parts r too expensive to maintain their margins or simply not able to produce in such quantities in 2016 so we ended up with the "in between" solution that is the 7

(a) Apple already has broken the tick-toc cycle. In all but name, the iPhone 7 is a toc-toc, aka 6ss phone.
(b) iPhone rumours have been quite reliable, even a year out, in the past. There is no reason to think they have turned unreliable suddenly. Moreover, the sheer number of rumours about the 2017 iPhone has been unprecedented, there rarely has ever been as much smoke as there is about this iPhone.

iPhone 8?

Will we see an iPhone 7s too?

Will the (5)SE take the shape of the 6s (called 6se?) or remain in the smaller form factor?

Apple's naming conventions are seemingly getting quite jumbled & random...

Trading tick-tock for tic-tac-toc perhaps or was this 6ss called 7 just an aberration ?

Yeah I get that thanks.

Sometimes a passing glance makes an individual misread something which I did.
Aside from the remarkable fact that humans can read words even if the interior letters are jumbled as long as the first and last letter are correct, humans also can read text with some 'smaller' words missing. That is what leads to misreading some statements, the mind is filling in some presumably missing words that thus change the meaning.

Another year of fragmentation, waiting for developers to update their apps for the new resolution. FML.

2016: iPad Pro 12.9"
2017: iPhone 8

This always happens with new features. In 2014 Apple Pay wasn't widely adopted. In 2015 force touch wasn't in many apps. In 2016 wireless headphones aren't mass-marketed.

We'll get there!

The iPhone 8 is basically the Galaxy S7 Edge with iOS and a faster processor.Cant believe how much Samsung is ahead of Apple

Nearly a year old now, allegedly not being updated in 2017 despite good sales figures. It doesn't inspire confidence in Apple's direction.

How do we know the sales figures were good though? All we know is that Apple ran out of stock all the time, but that could just be because they didn't manufacture that many to begin with rather than it was selling like crazy...

Curved and bezel-free! Amazing!

And only a year after the Chinese manufacturers started doing it, and the Galaxy S8 Edge....

Maybe the iPhone camera will catch up, too?

Who said Apple can't innovate?

I've been calling 5" and 6" sizes for years since we first started talking about bezel-free or a reduced bezel iPhone. I liked the bigger display size of the iPhone Plus when I had the 6 Plus for a year but it was just way too physically big. 5" in a smaller form factor is great news for those who want a larger phone experience without the larger phone. I'm also hoping they can lob off some of the forehead and chin so that it's a little shorter as well, but that may be difficult if they make it thinner due to battery issues. However, if they can somehow utilize that new lithium battery tech that is roughly twice the capacity in the same size, then it would be easy. The height of the iPhone is especially a problem on the Plus model, and is readily apparent when comparing to popular Android phablets.

Has anyone heard how that new lithium tech is coming along? I have my doubts many phones will adopt it next year after Samsung's battery problems this year. Best to do extensive testing of anything new! If we get the iPhone 8 or some new name next year with a big redesign, Apple may wait a couple years for the next design update for the battery because then they could make the iPhone absolutely razor thin with no change in battery life, lol.

I really doubt the new iPhone would be sold in 4.7" sizes along with the others. It just doesn't make sense. They would keep selling the iPhone 7 in 4.7" sizes. Maybe 4.5" with reduced bezels would be close in size to the current iPhone SE? Although I imagine some people would salivate over a 4" iPhone with reduced bezels and forehead/chin. That thing would be tiny!

Lastly, it's odd that only the 5.8" model would get OLED. Wouldn't the battery life improvements benefit all sizes of the device? If they do that, then that must be the differentiating factor for the Plus model that year. Hopefully that means we get dual cameras on the smaller model! I'd rather have dual cameras on the smaller iPhone and just wait for something better like mLED for the display. That being said, I still hate Apple stratifying the iPhone based on size. I'd love a slightly thicker 5" iPhone Pro that has dual cameras, the best display, more RAM, etc. I want the best iPhone without having to compromise on size.

I know this is just a rumor, but I'm really annoyed at Apple giving the best features to the larger phone. The 4.7 inch form factor is as big a phone as I want, and that is without a case.
