A couple of Dell and Lenovo laptops have 32GB, though.

I don't know about the Dell but I heard the following about the Lenovo. Apple said they were limited to 16 GB because they use low power DDR3 RAM. Lenovo didn't use low power DDR3, instead they used regular RAM and were able to support 32 gigs. However to save battery power for people with 16 gigs, they used one bank of 16 gigs. So the laptop doesn't have to power two banks. That has one big disadvantage: it's slower because you can't interleave between the two banks of memory. So given the current technology, Lenovo said: "we support 32 gigs with less battery power, or 16 gigs with less speed". And Apple said: "we support a maximum of 16 gigs so we can use low-power RAM with two banks, plus use higher-speed RAM".

Everyone uses Intel. But they all make slightly different choices.

Macrumors should stop using Digitimes as a source without crosschecking.

IGZO aka "metal oxide TFT tech" displays have been used in the iPad pro for quite some time now, and according to at least semi-reputable sources in the 13" MBP as well.

Dell has been using IGZO panels on their XPS line (the 4K XPS line, which are cheaper than MBP's) since 2015, so I guess production price can't be a limiting factor. Ominously, they claim extremely wide color gamut like Apple does with the 2016 MBP line

All in all, I'd call BS on that article.

I don't know about the Dell
It uses 2x 16GB DDR4. In the latest revision with the 97Wh battery, it's battery life should be decent. Maybe even better than that of the MBP's.

And no doubt will fix the batteries etc etc too bad for all the suckers who bought this ver 1 lemon.. They should be ashamed at how they handled this rollout
They will probably add 1 button cell
(and remove 1 Thunder port, to play nice with the V.1 suckers...)

Why would you buy from a company that you hate?
Nobody hates Apple.
They just need to hang down a few with their b..lls tied from a tree.

From Wikipedia:
"A dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to another device to provide it with additional functionality."

Yes - eg a bluetooth dongle, a wifi dongle. Thats what they've always been down as. Hence why we also have the word adapter.
[doublepost=1483799167][/doublepost]
The first "dongle" I ever had was an adapter for my PCMCIA ethernet card, which adapted the proprietary thin connector on the card to a proper ethernet jack.

I think a dongle is any short wire, typically with one end of it being pretty bulky.

Nah

The material costs are higher? What a shock! Make the base Macbook Pro $2800 with a 250GB hard drive and $3200 with a 500GB drive and $3600 with a 1TB drive and put a $15 GPU in there. Next, switch the iPhone to USB-C and switch the ports to Lightning on the Macbook Pro!

Now pour some coffee on that computer! Hey, look, it's not a great idea to bring an overpriced, underpowered Macbook to Starbucks.... Seriously, how many people feel comfortable carrying around a $2400+ notebook??? I never took my Macbook Pro anywhere but to secure locations for the first four years and I only paid $1600 for it! Carrying around $3000+...no thanks. It's your life or your Wonka bar! You have to think about it!?!?

Yes.

Stacking 100, 36 MP images and editing huge Photoshop files with multiple layers can be very RAM intensive. Most people won't see much of a benefit from 32 GB RAM but I would love to see that in my laptop. My next desktop will have significantly more than 32.

But I bet you still don't get into the red zone of activity monitor even doing that.

Cool. More efficient monitor + Kaby lake + better battery (hopefully) = a much better version of 2016's MacBook Pro. Now, if only we can get Apple to swallow their pride and bring back the SD card reader. (No need for USB-A, but the SD card reader is a must!). Oh, and Nvidia graphics. Maybe the 1060? That would be amazing.
I think you just described the ideal laptop

The U-series, which the macbook pro's use does support DDR4L...
Kaby Lake does not support LPDDR4 so it will be no improvement in that regard. DDR4 is in the removable form factor, LPDDR4 is the tiny soldered chip variety. I haven't found any mention of a lower voltage variety of DDR4 (DDR4L)

Nah

Ok, well I'm going to continue using the word dongle the way everyone understands because

If you are interested in HEVC like me than you will be disappointed that it does not playback smoothly even on new rMBPs with Polaris GPUs. I have long suspected that this is not a CPU "hog" as some have stated for explaining away the issue by blaming hardware (which up until recently has been somewhat to blame). My Samsung UHD blu ray player has been able to play my NX500 footage for over a year now and surely does not have a CPU anywhere close to a top of the line riMac like I had briefly last year. While W10 has been somewhat better in this regard, OSX is lagging the most behind. I really hope for the sake of codec progress the OS developers will get their act together. Don't expect a full hardware solution to fix the problem as I have done. Either way, I have to abandon the money I put into FCPX if Apple doesn't start caring as nothing competes with HEVC footage and higher IO rates in h264 is a dead end.

Trying to bury the whole embarrassment under semantics? Why don't you explain again why the reduction in battery is actually a feature?

What embarrassment?

But it's definitely, unarguably "I couldn't care less" only Americans say the incorrect version.

That's great......Apple can make the Mac thinner.......

Thanjs for getting the "thinner" slam out of the way. Now, who wants to spit out the "courage" comment?

I agree, they should have made an announcement they were waiting on Intels punk ass to release KL and expect to release in 2017. Instead they gave us a half baked battery implementation. Overall I get between 8-9 hours so I really can't complain. But thats after I stripped out a lot of lights and functions and made tweaks.

Otherwise this release is actually pretty damn good IMO.

LOL. "I really can't complain" but "they gave us half baked battery implementation"

THANK GOD LG is NOT making these displays

Take their ****** image retention trash and never put it in a Mac again!

I had an LG that developed image retention that was replaced by a Samsung that had the antireflective layer wear off. Third LG has been perfect while looking much better than the Samsung.

9 million macbooks a year?
If Apple made just $100 in profit on each that $900m a year...
How does Apple even neglect such business...

They didn't want to miss out on the holiday season. We'll get a sense in a couple of weeks with the earnings release to see if it was the right decision.

My guess is that Apple will update the iMac and Mac Mini this year with Kaby Lake, and make quiet updates to the MacBook and MacBook Pro later this year. The MacBook should see the most benefit from Kaby Lake as it seems like Intel was able to crank up the CPU speeds more there.

It definitely unarguable doesn't matter as long as the listener understands the meaning and intent of the speaker's statement.

You choose to ignore progress.
1: There is no proof my post chose to ignore progress.
2: The comment is irrelevant to your claim:
Too bad you're factually incorrect. Battery technology is nowhere near older and more outdated than the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
You are factually incorrect.
Do we use the same energy storage within the battery as we did with Volta? How about in the '90's? Last decade? Even last year? Batteries are getting more and more efficient with energy storage, heat transfer, etc, and it's idiotic to ignore that and call the battery, even sarcastic, more outdated than the 3.5 mm jack.
The above is irrelevant to your original claim.
Battery technology is recognized to have started in 1800.
Your argument on its evolution and what is currently being used today does not change that fact.

Ok you clearly don't know anything about technology and refuse to try. I'm done with ignorance.
