Just because someone wants something doesn't disprove what he said.
It kind of does. But there is no evidence to the contrary either, so why say it?

A software bug doesn't mean the whole product line is flawed or that Windows machines are a good alternative.

How about we see how the update works out before being an armchair Engineering Lead. :D
In all seriousness, this should have never been in issue to begin with. C'mon Apple....
We'll see. Stuff happens and Apple responded...quickly. What more can you ask?

Yeah they do. The consumer is THE best litmus test on products people want, period.

It’s certainly not a litmus that the product is good. Unless you believe Budweiser is the best beer and taco bell is the best mexican food and s ton of other examples.

In reality sales are a litmus of what lemmings flock to, not what is good.

Latest I heard was that it was a hardware VRM Quality/spec issue and would need a hardware revision to fix.

I hope that is wrong, and it is just software, as hardware is going to take a LONG time for apple to sort out.

Let’s wait for the armchair engineers here to say this isn’t good enough and doesn’t address the hardware issue they concluded must exist.

See how far overreacting gets you?

Let’s then also not play down that this PR disaster could easily have been avoided with better testing and product development prior to launch.

Banana products that get shipped before being ready.

Your examples would only apply if Macs were low-cost products, which they are not. Instead, Windows still dominates in the computer market, so if there are “lemmings” as you so condescendingly put it, they are buying Windows-based computers, not Macs.

Can you read? Point out where I said lemmings were buying macs.

The comment I teplied to was that sales are a litmus test. What I stated, it’s only a litmus of what lemmings are buying, is very true and you made my point. If you belive macs are better than windows machines then you agree with me, not sure what you are upset about.

Many people buy stuff based on what others buy, the most ads they see, etc. I stand by the lemmings comment. I never said 100% of the people are lemmings.

Maybe you can point out the many areas where sales are a litmus of the best product and highest quality sans fanboyspeak and need to try and turn every post into an anti apple one.

You do know that Geekbench results have been high even with the throttling right? It just reports basically the best boost. Use something like Cinebench or a Prime95 test for actual testing.

Nothing wrong with being a fan. I am a fan of many things. Restaurants, sporting teams, hobbies... But I think it is a little bit crazy to blindly follow a whole company.

You say "'competition', or lack thereof I should say." - What exact product(s) is this statement related to? There is a ton of competition out there for every single one of Apple devices that may work better for others (maybe with the exception of the tablet space).

iPhone? Android has matured a lot. If you are a blind fan and don't check it out than that is on you. It doesn't mean the competition isn't out there. Pixel 2/OnePlus6/Galaxy phones are all very capable devices that probably have a better value to some people.

Macbooks? There are dozens upon dozens of Windows laptops out there. Quite a few of which compete with Macs on every line item (except for OS). Again most have a huge "value" to cost benefit as well.

I get you are a fan. But please don't blindly follow. Please want there to be good competition to push Apple further. And maybe... just maybe... Actually give some other company's products a chance even though it doesn't have that Apple logo on it. You just might be surprised.
I don't "blindly" pledge allegiance to anything, anyone or any company. Stop pretending to know someone based on their comments on an online forum. What's crazy is that you put all this energy into pushing your particular stance or agenda. Whatever that is, I don't care. I am fully aware of how Geekbench results work. I was merely stating I am pleased with the performance of this machine. Unlike you, I don't have a motive other than supporting a company that I believe in.

? You tell someone to stop pretending to kow you yet end by pretending to know him.

These type of arguments can go on forever.

It's true that Geekbench wasn't affected by the throttling issue (each GB test lasts very short time) but thanks for posting results anyway in case newcomers missed it.

Who uses their laptops like desktop workstations like this? Laptops are meant for portability and not sustained workloads the like of which you are describing. If you are doing sustained workloads like this, definitely invest the money on a desktop. They are more reliable and won't crash like you mentioned.

Perhaps marketing departments should be more careful about what they say.

What will speak volumes is how far less posts we will see on this thread as compared to the original report about the issue to start with (now sitting at 1573 posts and 63 pages long). People love to hate, complain, and bash on Apple. But when they do something right in a very timely manner the masses are silent. Crickets. I am guessing too that the majority who do comment here will most likely still moan about something... Isn't there enough already wrong in the world? I commend Apple for publicly addressing this, and with rapid resolve!
nah, it’ll keep going.
just the complaints will change. ;)

There are plenty of people who give that appearance. This was a legitimate concern raised by a number of people and there were a number of people who were blaming everyone but Apple for it (or denying it was an issue to begin with). It's shocking how so many people are so blindly loyal to a company which cares nothing about them.

I do not feel that Macs are better than some Windows machines. In some respects they're better and others they're worse. Depends on the criteria used to classify something as better or not.
