I've had a titanium watch for over ten years (case and bracelet). Fingerprint marks come and go - but are always so feint they are utterly ignorable.

The coating Apple have used obviously has an impact but, in my view, bare titanium isn't a problem.

If this was a support document updated today... this means it either wasn't noticed during materials and product testing, or that it was noticed but not considered such an issue that they would include it in a support document. Either way, it's either a lack of in depth and rigorous product testing, or them just expecting people not to notice such things. Both bizarre to have been overlooked by such a big and successful company.
I feel like it’s there to help combat customer complaints directed at the Genius Bar staff or with AppleCare reps - who can now just point a customer at a support document, telling them it’s expected.

Here come AppleGloves. $99 for left, $99 for right.

Are they woven? I will only purchase them if they are woven

Who isn't using a case though. Not excusing the design choice by Apple, but I've dropped enough iPhones over the years to know better than to go in the nude.
I've never used a case from the original iPhone and on, and rarely dropped my phone, and then after seeing the video below, I never drop my phone. Plus AppleCare + ($25 screen replacement is cheaper than a case)

Titanium has been used for high end knive scales for years and this is a very common issue. Any anodized titanium is affected by oil on the skin and the best way to fix it is a cloth with some windex applied to it.

You mean to tell me that a sufficient number of new iPhone users 1) noticed smudging on the parts of the phone they touch with their fingers but 2) didn’t try to wipe it off first, before jumping to the conclusion the phone has a defect, and reported it in such numbers on social media that Apple had to step in and state the obvious? It didn’t occur to these owners that their fingers have oils and leave prints visible on certain color and texture surfaces?

Or, alternatively, these users DID try to clean it and it doesn’t in fact just wipe off and it’s an issue with the finish. And Apple is just pretending otherwise.

Or they just got around to posting it since nobody had one until today anyway?

It was absolutely noticed. How could it not be? The article photo is from the hands-on area at the event, and plenty of people commented on it at the time. It's also been noticed on the titanium Watch Ultra, which has been out for a year.

I personally would be fine if the Pro models used aluminum like the non-pro models, nearly everyone uses a case.

I mean it's not like Apple uses titanium on the MacBook Pro and aluminum on the MB Air.
I don't think Aluminum would change anything because the Midnight MacBook Air also shows smudges and fingerprints.

It's not the metal, it's the coating.

You obviously aren’t in the content business. No, it means it wasn’t relevant until orders started being received.

Man the stainless steel looks more durable. I wonder if this is an issue with the natural titanium as well. Watch ultra owners must have some experience I take it?
Maybe that’s the reason Apple didn’t come out with a black titanium Ultra 2? I guess it’s much less visible on natural titanium so no issues with Ultra owners.
