Seems like 11.2 is really what 11.0 should have been.
My 6S+ has finally settled down. "Seems" good now. Prior to this it felt bad. Can't put finger on it.
Battery life was erratic and poor. I think the calculator bug is a big clue to something stupid under the hood.

iOS 11 could be optimized and fine tuned but in my opinion it is a hit. I have it on all my devices that support it and did it the first day it was available. My iPad mini 2’s run better than ever, iPhone 6s runs great. My others are newer devices and they run fine as one would expect. iOS 11 especially on the iPad is sooo much better it is not even funny. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Constant nag dialogue will do that. Sadly, Apple just wears you down until you submit.

This is ONLY because Apple was being miser and included just 16 GB storage space till iPhone 6S. Most of the people in 41% must have run out of space to download and install the update.

I am getting a sadist laugh about it maybe because I was one of the sufferers of 16 GB iDevice.

This. I think Apple needs to disclose actual numbers to be believed.

No they don’t.

People are forgetting that what Apple is doing here is nothing more than a huge dig at Google.

Google used to report the total number of devices on each version based on devices that checked in with Google servers. In other words, they sampled pretty much 100% of devices.

The problem was they showed a lot of devices on older versions which made version fragmentation look bad.

So Google “updated” the way they measure users from “devices that checked into Google servers” to “devices that visited Google Play over the last 7 days”.

What happened? The number of users on older versions went down and the number of users on newer versions went up, which made things appear better as far as fragmentation goes. The reason for this is obvious: people on older versions have likely got all the Apps they need and dont visit the Play Store. Meanwhile, users on newer devices are more likely to be checking out all the latest Apps and visit the Play Store far more often. This skews the numbers in favor of those with newer devices/versions.

Google claimed this change was made to reflect users visiting the Play Store (who presumably spend money) and was more useful to developers than knowing the total actual number of users in the world.

So when Apple started reporting how many users were on each version of iOS, they adopted Googles method and counted users visiting The App Store. After all, Apple couldn’t use a different method to compare to Android as this would have the haters crying foul. And in doing so showed just how bad Android fragmentation is compared to iOS.

What is this based on?

iOS 11 is now installed on 59 percent of iOS devices, according to new statistics Apple shared this week on its App Store support page for developers.

That's up from 52 percent on November 6, indicating iOS 11 adoption has grown just 7 percentage points over the course of the last month.

appleios11installation-800x684.jpg

33 percent of iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices continues to run iOS 10, while 8 percent of devices run a version of iOS earlier than iOS 10.

iOS 11 adoption has been slower than iOS 10 adoption. Based on Apple's official App Store numbers, for example, iOS 10 was installed on 54 percent of devices in October, a month after the operating system had been released. Comparatively, iOS 11 was only at 52 percent in November, a month and a half after launch.

Apple has already released several updates for iOS 11, but that doesn't seem to have improved installation rates, especially as many of those updates have been made available to address major bugs found in the operating system.

Over the weekend, Apple released iOS 11.2, the second major update to iOS 11. iOS 11.2 introduced Apple Pay Cash in the United States, but the update was released early to fix a date bug that was causing crashes on December 2. As a result, Apple Pay Cash was not initially available and wasn't provided to customers until yesterday.

With Apple Pay Cash now available, though, customers who have been reluctant to upgrade may install the iOS 11.2 update to access the new feature, so it's possible we'll start seeing improved installation rates in Apple's next App Store support page update.

The fragmentation begins :p

I've said it before and I'll continue to say it: This is a bullspit stat. When Apple forces you to upgrade by spamming your phone with reminders on a daily basis that is what is known as "Gaming the system". Let people choose to upgrade rather than forcing them to do so Apple and then come crow about adoption rates.

I'm still on iOS 10 with an iPhone 7.

Is iOS 11 bad or should I upgrade?

I've heard complaints so I'm reluctant to update...

Not sure what everyone is complaining about. I've been running iOS 11 on my iP6+ and iPad Air since 11.0b1. My dad is running 11.2 on an iP6S+. Other than loosing older 32 bit apps, I've not had any issues.

Volume of legacy apple devices is growing??? People not buying new apple devices as often??? People no longer see the value in upgrading the OS??? People realize an upgraded OS can cripple the expensive device???

Let me ponder...

I'd say legacy devices.
iPhone 5 and 5c aren't compatible with iOS 11 and a lot of people still owns them. iPad 2 was very popular, and supports iOS 9, so does the mini and iPad 3, the first retina model.

Do we know numbers that only include upgrades and not new device purchases? That will tell the real story.

Assuming we'd have similar numbers for previous iOS versions as well.

There isn’t enough advantages for the average person to update. Plus just too many bugs and not unfinished stuff on iOS 11 compared to 10.

I am on 11.2 but miss some easy functions of 10. Why do I have to use 3D Touch for activating airdrop ?? Just one minor example. There are surely others.

The latter... "People realize an upgraded OS can cripple the expensive device"

iOS 11 has finally settled down, but still using noticeable more battery than iOS 10.

Agreed. Funny, no one can prove this regardless we all have learnt and avoid major updates which could result crippling the device. iOS will end up like Android...fragmented that would be an irony.

Yeah, just "like"...

Because, you know, Apple releases new phone models with older versions of the operating system on them, with no path/plan/ability/care to see that those phones get timely updates, of any kind, for three+ years!

So, just like Android, iOS is becoming more fragmented the more devices Apple sells!

Not.

And on Android, it's all about new functionality delivered through the store or services, apparently: that's a feature now, and Android fans love to say how its not about new APIs and new OS features, like that is so antiquated; they love to say how they are getting exactly the same functionality and performance from any given app they run, no matter what version of Android they are running on a device!

I don't think there is an iOS eqivalent for that desperate measure that Google had to take in order to mitigate the situation of OEMs and carriers just doing their own thing. But, you know, that's a feature, not really "fragmentation", which is a "non-issue" invented by Apple fans!

iOS 11 is great on my 2017 ipad. However it is sluggish on my wife’s iPhone 5c.

Not just that but there's no way for the typical user (which doesn't include us or anyone that would be on a Mac forum) to simply work out you must 3D Touch it in the first place, many simply believe Apple removed the shortcut feature because they can't find it.
