I'm usually one to install new OSs on the first hour.

I wish it stuck it out with 10 like that 28%, even now several 11 releases in. Framerate is still all over the place on my 7, still UI bugs, and really not much net benefit.

12 should really just get it perfectly smooth and bug free again, forget everything else. Being a bit slower to whizbang features while having a smooth UI was the original draw of iOS anyways.

Always makes me angry when they compare adoption rates for iOS and Android. Nobody who uses an Android phone bothers to upgrade their OS version because it’s not important.

I was just out with some people who study in a social sciences program and we were talking about iOS updates.

None of them were techies in any sense, but they all went on about how they've learned to just not update their devices because the updates ruin them.

Only one of them was on iOS 11 and she said it was by accident and she wish she could go back. I ended up recommending the tvOS profile to prevent the constant daily harassment Apple insists on.

iPhone 8+. iPadPro (2015). iOS 11 is the best yet, especially on the iPP. A thing of beauty, a joy forever, blah blah blah fish cakes.

But then I’ve never understood NOT wanting to update.

Or.......you could see it this way: Might be that iOS 12 will be much-MUCH better than iOS 11 ever is/was, if that's the case you will take the jump instantly.

No, I won’t. Way too many problems and issues lately. Usually, near the end of an operating system’s incredibly short 12-month lifecycle, it is the most stable. I will not be upgrading to iOS 12 or MacOS Furnace Creek during the first 6 months under any circumstance.

No one with an Android phone bothers to update because it's not important? What is that based on?

for apple i see one thing big problem . No LTS (long term support). They keep introduce new API while i'm testing ios app and it dam annoying the most. You Create A BUG to solve A BUG. IOS and OSX have long way to be good Operating System. Aesthetically nice to see, simple to use.. Hard to configure.

A lot of people here mention being harassed daily to update because Apple pushed the unwanted download to their device. Sometime I ago I found a tip to get rid of this annoyance, I can't remember the site, but this is how:

Settings-->General-->Storage & iCloud Usage-->Manage Storage
In the displayed list you will see the Update. Click on it then select DELETE

Doing this once per downloaded version is better than dealing every day with the pushy annoyance to "just do it, stupid" (paraphrased of course).

Android never gets updates as they slow down the phone. If they get updates there is a feature to downgrade.

Not sure what that has to do with what I asked in my reply.

Android never gets updates? What? o_O

Effectively true for many Android phones, but not in a good sense.
That can be the case usually because of carriers and/or the cheaper variety of Android phones that don't get much attention. But Android itself as an OS certainly has updates and new major versions as well.

Yes, absolutely, and Google/AOSP is basically unable to bring the features in those versions to the masses in a controlled timeframe. Most users effectively get them whenever they buy a new phone (and often even the new one won’t gage the latest major release).

OTOH, Android does offer security updates for older releases, and maybe it’s time Apple start doing that.

It mean one thing illusion. You can create an update saying this is the most secure ios while in mean time actually solve a bug only . When you try to be perfection , only create a mess and frequent update..

Google make android to used to other vendor, so other vendor create own fork and patch their own based on their hardware.

So make the simple, Apple IS CLOSED system. They can create bug and enhance it as UPGRADE. Nobody knew it was bugs or future at first place.

Well aftter the meltdown and spectre incidents who are not in yet really....even if you don't want to...pretty much the equivalent to using windows without an antivirus (well almost...IMO)...sigh.

they can cheat while saying it was bug in old ios while new implementation wouldn't support old API. So make in simple english "This upgrade/update enhance your IOS experince.Old don't support". I do like old apple music 10 compare to apple music 11 interface . :(

Still not sure what that has to do with some claim that Android doesn't update. But that's OK.

It depend on manufacturer. I had few android device. Since it was fork, why da hel* company want to waste resources on cheap 50 dollar phone android compare to 1 grand iphone X ?

Never ever think any update operating system will solve issue.. There will be time everybody will asking is this long term support .We don't want to update !.

Well, I don't have the option of upgrading to iOS 11. I have an iPhone 5C, and thus am stuck with the various bugs that allow outsiders to attack me via my Broadcom chips, and have no recourse for the Meltdown and Spectre bugs. As far as I know, Apple could provide an iOS 10 update to fix these problems, but it is easier for them to make me buy a new phone. I really like my phone, but am quite unhappy with the support that Apple is providing. I have PCs that are much older than my iPhone, and Microsoft continues to support them. Come on Apple, help me out. With however many hundreds of billions of dollars that you are going to bring back to the US, how about spending a bit of that and make my phone secure.

That's not counting new devices where is already installed. Right?
I'm happily one of the 28% on my 7+
