Syria is being bombed...

and people are worried about the iPhone 6 Plus bending? Software updates on their phone that have gone awry?

FWP of epic proportions.

**** happens. Today is a new day. There's nothing that can't be fixed and even with everything that's happened, I would still trust Apple over Google any day of the week with my data. ;)

Syria is being bombed...yeah. Do you know who's bombing them? WE ARE!

Apple need new directors.

- iOS 8.0.1 issue - huge issue.
- Chinese voiceover issue during the media event.
- Streaming issue during the media event.
- Ugly antenna band - needs new designers.
- Bendgate - should have analyzed the structure.
- Ad - did you see the "bigger" ad?

Yeah, but everything LOOKS pretty.
Stupid Apple.

Stop being so immature. For many of us, our phones are a vital business tool. I can tolerate small bugs and certain apps having issues, but to lose cellular connectivity is totally unacceptable.

Soz Stevey, just trying to make the point that in the big scheme of things this is a small speed bump.

I just want everyone to cool their jets, too many jimmies being rustled over this.

I had a good laugh thanks to your first paragraph :) It's true, being on holiday should be about not being reachable for and thinking about work. Normally I wouldn't mind (apart from not being able to navigate the island now, back to the old fashioned way of using a map), but I've just started another company and I need to be reachable. I certainly know how good I have it and these are definitely first world problems, but that doesn't mean I can't be very disappointed by this situation.

I was so crazy to drive to another country to buy the iPhone 6 just before my holiday as when I would return it most likely would even be sold out for weeks in my own country. Everyone on this forum who has an iPhone has paid lots of money for it, so when Apple brings out an update which takes away your cellular network with no way of turning it back on, that's a serious failure on their part. And especially when they say it will take them days to create a fix. That's just unacceptable for a multibillion dollar company.

I like you man. All the best with your business ventures.

Makes me wonder how the carriers also missed the bug. Why did updating via iTunes work but OTA fail?

As someone who does software development and product testing for a living, I'm struggling to understand how this update could have gone out without them knowing it would cripple the iPhone 6 line.

That's a great question. You should send it to @tim_cook and @pschiller.

"bendgate"? Really?

It's a thin piece of metal. Most of the time it won't bend, but when put under extreme stresses it will. I'm not sure how this rises to the level of news. This is like being upset that your car can be damaged if you crash it into something. There are compromises made with every design decision. I for one won't be trying to bend my phone. I know this because, well, I never have tried to bend a previous phone.

I hope 8.0.2 fixes the weird UI glitches too, I find when using the YouTube app on my iPhone 6, the top search bar keeps overlapping the status bar!.

Actually, that's a bug in the YouTube app. Developers were supposed to compensate for this in their design. I had to do it with the app I work on. I've heard other Google written iOS apps have this problem too.

Looked this AM and did see the software update showing on the phone.. dodged that one... good thing I decided not to update the 5 right away...

I don't mind the antenna bands nearly as much as I minded the stark two-tone back to the iPhone 5/5S.

But all of those other points are absolutely true. And I mean, s*** happens, obviously... but from Apple we've all learned to expect near-perfection based on their alleged standards, and as a company who is heralded on high quality products and the like, it's astounding that these issues are coming about.

It'd be one thing if it was some small company known for high quality products... less people to test, etc... but Apple has plenty of time and resources so I hope that they've taken these last few weeks as a serious learning experience. And I honestly would like them to at least publicly acknowledge at least the 8.0.1 f***up. It would make me feel better to at least read/hear that they are apologetic for such a big issue

Easy. Someone decided to "fast track" the HealthKit fixes because developer apps had to be pulled from the App Store. It was a touted feature that came in DOA. As far as I can recall, Apple has never issued an iOS update that quickly from a initial release (6 days?). So, the normal, long process was probably circumvented. And, if you do software development, you know the process is in place to prevent these sort of things from happening. You also know that chances are something will go wrong if you 'buck' the process.

I don't plan on getting an iPhone 6 Plus so I don't really care too much about this "issue" however your analogy is really not accurate. If you crash a car and it gets damaged, that's 'sensible' for lack of a better word as that is NOT the intended purpose of the car (to be crashed). And we all know crashing cars can lead to damage. But having your phone in your pocket as one has always done? That shouldn't lead to damage to the phone, by following normal phone carrying procedures...

"Coming back" implies you were once an iPhone owner. The iPhone never had a removable battery and never will, so unless you had the only iPhone on the planet with a removable battery you were never an iPhone user to begin with. No loss for Apple here.
Well, technically the batteries are removable...after tearing the phone apart

<SHOCK FACE!>

;)

Apple realise this is a monumental cockup and are clearly working to fix it.

There's a work around and there's support out there for those that need it. No point pointing fingers and continuously blaming someone for something that's already happened.

End of the day, its a phone. Get over it and move on.

But it's no longer a phone running iOS 8.0.1, it seems you don't quite understand what a phone should do.
