The iOS 8.0.2 update BETTER WORK. I'm about to activate my new iPhone 6 (64 GB Space Grey--yeah, it's a bit late but I've been busy at work) and the last thing I want is a "bricked" phone after the update is applied.

Make sure you wait a while after an update comes out (like a day or two) before you update your phone (so you can let others find any problems) and you'll be golden.

Apple are getting sloppy - their image is in danger if this trend of hardware and software issues continues...

I tend to agree…whether it was the Keynote Web Broadcast, the Apple Store Web Front End not being online for iPhone Pre-Orders, Apple ignoring the detailed security warning about iCloud accounts being able to be brute forced, or the OTA 8.0.1 issue…even the public perception that the 6+ can be easily bent...at some point this will start impacting the brand.

That said, Tim isn't a guy who just ignores things when he's aware of them, so maybe they'll fix things here (he should fire whomever in IT/executive made the choice to ignore the iCloud brute force security vulnerabilituy…that was inexcusable from an IT security standpoint).

I updated my 6 to 8.0.1 and lost my cell coverage and Touch ID. I reverted back to iOS 8.0 and got it back. Why are people acting like their phone is doomed? Just downgrade.

Oh, but that would be FAR too simple.....

People much prefer complaining and whining about how terrible a company Apple is. Hyperbole is always the preference here.....

That being said, I was quite shocked they would allow something like this to get out. But in the end, no harm done. I'm back to 8.0 patiently awaiting 8.0.2. There are some bugs, but no more than usual in my mind.

With all the behind the scenes changes (especially with the way apps interact and such), it's not at all surprising there have been some issues to start.

Apple is always very quick to fix these things. You can bet we'll see 8.0.2 as soon as possible. Of course, we don't want them to rush it and miss something.....I think people need to realize the clamor for ever faster updates leads to things like this.

That's what I usually do, but not this time. I was lucky, though, that I have a 5s and the update didn't break anything for me.

Agreed. They call it the "bleeding edge" for a reason - there tends to be blood at times. If one is an early adopter, of anything, it comes with the territory and is understood by most.

You know, having something pestering you to "fix" the recent x.0.0 release is hard to ignore. Apple should probably be doing a limited rollout (6 hours?) prior to releasing the floodgates on updates from here on out - just to make sure if they break something, it'll be caught before going largescale.

Beautiful cat BTW.

Had to add that there…most of the people I know who aren't computer industry literate (which is most people) don't have a clue to this...

I am of the opinion that anyone who installed the update during that one hour window has the tools and knowledge to revert to the previous version.

Although, based on some of the comments here, I may have to rethink this opinion. Sometimes I wonder how many people lied when registering for the forum and clicking the "I am 13 or older" checkbox.

Here's the problem - how many people do NOT have access to a PC or Mac with iTunes installed, in order to allow them to rollback to 8.0? Those people are out of luck, and if I was one of them I'd be furious.

just install ios8' but I updated in the middle of nowhere & assumed that my phone had bricked (no wifi so couldn't check MR),
Something there doesn't quite square with reality. In order to have installed the update, you had to have been on WiFi, the updates don't install over cellular data.

Has anyone tried this in Yosemite?

I can't seem to get it to work. I have iOS 8 downloaded but never to get the option to install it.

Same for me. You have to put the phone in DFU mode, connect it to iTunes then hit restore. It will start downloading iOS 8.0 and soon you'll be able to make calls and use TouchID again.

Make a good backup first.

Hey I'm trying to revert back to iOS8 and it says firmware is not compatible? But I downloaded it from their link?

iTunes is up to date btw....

Try putting your phone in DFU mode and restoring it. That worked for me.

The problem now is iTunes going so slow. I did the restore but now my 6 has been syncing for over 15 hours and is making no more progress.

Not sure what to do at this point other than just wait it out. But it's not a simple as just doing the restore and moving on. iTunes is at a crawl..

Apple need new directors.

- iOS 8.0.1 issue - huge issue.
- Chinese voiceover issue during the media event.
- Streaming issue during the media event.
- Ugly antenna band - needs new designers.
- Bendgate - should have analyzed the structure.
- Ad - did you see the "bigger" ad?

Yes and I'm sure you would be the perfect for the job. Why waste your brilliance on this forum if your such a genious and the people running the 2nd most valuable company in the world don't know what they are doing.
MacRumors needs new members since most of the time these days it's comments like yours, Steve jobs would have never, Safari is snappier, buggy OS, gate ....that seem to rule this forum.

I have 8.0.1 downloaded to my 6plus but not installed. Is there a way to delete the update? The phone pops up a reminder to install, gotta make sure I hit the correct answer.

You have to option click restore after downloading 8.0. That will allow you to select the correct version. I was making the same mistake.

Elliot Carver: Mr. Jones, are we ready to release our new software?

Jones: Yes, sir. As requested, it's full of bugs, which means people will be forced to upgrade for years.

Elliot Carver: Outstanding.

Should be under: Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage> IOS 8.0.1

Delete the file.

eta: fixed

The digital signature for the 8.0.1 release has been pulled, even if you tried to install it, the validation back to Apple would fail and you'd still be on 8.0.
