Apple Says iOS 9 Installed on More Than 50% of Active Devices, Fastest Adoption Ever

Assuming you update your devices every 2 years, why would you not update to the latest iOS version?
Jailbreak. Until there is a way to also block ads in apps like I can do with my Jailbroken iPhone/iPad, I'll keep my 8.3 version on my iPad/6+ till a Jailbreak is out for the current iOS.

I lost an ipad to the ios9 upgrade. It got the "white screen of death" during the upgrade (i.e. slide-to-upgrade). I spent hours on the phone with Apple support and the best we could do is to rebuild it as new. Granted, i take partial blame for not having a backup before I started. However, it doesn't excuse Apple from putting out updates that don't follow hippocratic oath.

Yes, it sucks. I was at a friend's place over the weekend and suggested him to update his iPhone 4s to iOS 9 (he was still running iOS 7). Next thing you know the device is bricked. I tried to restore his phone from iTunes but it kept complaining that he needed to turn off Find my phone from his iPhone to be able to do that. What the hell? Reallly!? I don't know how many users are affected by this problem but this is a mess. Now he's gotta head back to the store.

blah, jailbreaking was 2011. I find no need for all that silly stuff today. iOS is a lot more advanced then it once was.

I gives you the option to stay with the older version of notes for the time being. It seems to be working fine...
So when I put iOS 9 on my iPhone 6, I can upgrade it to the new notes later? When does it give you the choice? Or is it in settings? I really don't want to mess it up and will gladly stay with the old notes app. On my new Mini 4, I don't see an option to switch back to the old notes app. Thx...

Have to stay on iOS 8 because I can't run iTunes on my desktops and I'm not running Windows XP!
Not happy w apple
Well pardon for stating the obvious, but you are using an os that i EOL so the fact that apple (a rhird party) choses to no longer support it is to be expected. It sucks for you, but so does not recieving securety updates anymore.

I had the same problem. All of my backups disappeared and iCloud refused to work properly for the whole day that I updated.
Yep, the iCould API is very fragile, in my experience. We have turned off all iCould services, while Apple migrates to a new API.

My experience has been that every iOS update (7.0 and later) to every iOS device that I've owned has resulted in continued diminished performance and responsiveness. In spite of that track record I installed iOS 9 on my newly acquired Air 2. Everything performs wonderfully and flawlessly. It's the first time that I've had a positive experience upgrading.

Speaking for myself, I upgraded on day 1 (something I almost never do) because iOS8 had been such a buggy mess. I wanted to get it off of my phone as soon as possible. The adoption rate could speak to how displeased people were with iOS8. Very happy with 9 thus far..

I have two: Peace and Crystal. However, Crystal offers NO customization. It's all or nothing deal with no exceptions. If some site stops working because of it you have to go to the settings and disable Crystal. too annoying. Peace is great and does offer some customization including the ability to turn it off on a site directly from safari. However, Marco Arment, its developer, had some ethical issues with his own app and pulled it from the App store.

There are plenty of other options for adblockers though but I have no first hand experience with any of them

You do NOT have to go into settings and disable Crystal. Simple long press the refresh button in Safari and you get an option to reload the page without blocking. Also if you find any page that doesn't work, you can report it in the app. The more people report pages the better the app will get.

Notes will prompt you when you first open it. You can decline. Then when you're ready to upgrade it, there will be a button near the top next to your notes in iCloud.

Thanks for the info. I have such a great setup that I am hesitant to mess it up, lol. I really appreciate your clarification for me.

I'm trying to figure out how I can run Windows or Yosemite in virtual box and map or link the iPhoto directory, music directory and application support path for iCal back to my live desktop so I don't have to buy another computer in order to run iTunes 12.3. Or iTunes 12.1.3.
I don't think Windows XP is going to see the iPhoto directory and other folders correctly.
I could buy parallels or other app if that allows me to map certain paths.

FYI Apple is still supporting Windows XP for iOS 9 and that is EOL.

I only installed IOS 9 because *they* said "This is always the first thing we tell customers for problems with latest iTunes and older iOS versions". i later saw the reason why my PDF's were not sync'ing was because i had to add then first to iBooks NOT due to older iOS,

:p Thank Apple... I never wanted to upgrade. and i guess there saying its a "first thing" they suggest, is probably more to do with just because we want u to run the latest.... i'm sure troubleshooting has a bit to do with it too.

Given how badly iOS 8 performs on older devices , people are upgrading and praying their devices run smoother . iOS 9 was about performance ....

I'd wager a lot of people are upgrading in hopes of fixing problems in iOS 7/8.

My 6 has a bunch of glitches and bugs, especially with updating apps. It's also a little more difficult to type when the keys don't pop up when you type.

I'd really love to see the adoption rate after 1 month where the users are able to easily revert back to the previous version. Otherwise, these numbers are meaningless to all but developers.

I'm one of them. Was forced to upgrade to iOS 8 due to bugs, and my iPad 3 was awful , had nothing to loose to moving to iOS 9 as it was suppose to improve performance . A lot of people will upgrade in the hope that thier older devices will be smoother than ios8 . In my books on an older device iOS 8 was the worst release. iOS 9 should have the highest adoption rate ever, due to how poor 8 was. For me 8 is vista and 9 is Windows 7, fingers crossed

Purify app is my choice in ad blocking: Has a mobile specific block list (as opposed to everyone else just reusing desktop blockers), doesn't break pages (so far), and wins every speed shootout I've seen.

You can reload any screen with non blocked content by holding the refresh arrow circle, top right. Hold for a couple seconds and will give you menu choice to reload without blockers. Don't have to go back to settings. After that the next page will be blocked again. Very handy.

cool, thanks! this is an OS feature, not a Crystal feature and will work on all blockers at once, right? really handy.
