my guess for in store stock amount (in a thread in the iPhone forum), was 5,000 - 10,000 in NYC on nov3..

i don't think anybody agrees with me though
:)
That’s my guess, as well as other large stores. Smaller stores around 1,000 per store.

What happened to no one wanting one... Ye ok, I believed that for about 10 seconds. I think especially coming up to Christmas it's going to be big!! People bitch about the $1000 price tag, honestly, if I could afford that I'd buy one no problem - sadly I don't. I'll just have to play with one in store! :(

Here’s the thing. The people who think/thought the price tag is outrageous are ALWAYS the most vocal. What you didn’t hear were alllllll the people who think the phone is so cool that the price isn’t a factor. Hence, Apple will sell every single one that they make and there will be lines and records broken.

A lot of people were probably embarrassed to post online that they are going to drop $1,000 for the iPhone X. It’s easier for people to bash it.

Dry this out and you can fertilize the lawn! For those 20 people per store that get them.. good for you. The rest of you who want this phone better get online right away this Friday morning to preorder. Otherwise you'll be waiting till into 1st Quarter 2018.

this ticks me off a bit - we will all be up early this Friday to per-order and i bet many of us won't get one at launch - yet apple says they will have some in the stores and to be sure to line up early - 1. the store units should be for us - the per-order group - the most loyal customers 2. this is purely for Wall ST - they want visible lines to make headlines because initial sales will be low and they don't want WS freaking out.
why do you think you are so entitled? jesus christ. Those people waiting in line are as loyal as any one of us. What makes pre-order group so loyal if we are basically at home sitting on our butts tapping a button on our phones?

I'm still not sure if I want this phone and I was just gonna preorder it to test it, but I'll just wait now and head over to the store. Now I don't need to wake up at 3 a.m. I really don't think that the demand is going to be what some are predicting. The FACE ID is the reason that I'm not sure about it.

There are 361 Apple Stores worldwide. Let's say they set aside 500,000 phones for the stores. That's about 1,385 phones per store.

That leaves about 2,000,000 for pre-orders.

It's very possible to have stock at the Apple Stores. Note that this is JUST Apple stores, not all retailers, who will be cut out at the beginning.

We'll see how Apple does it. But I can imagine even setting aside 100,000 phones for the stores, there will still be plenty of stock for lines 200 deep.

There are almost 500 Apple Stores worldwide.

Lines at stores??
Angela’s gonna be pissed. :p

I’m glad. That is the one thing in the Apple 3.0 era that I think they got wrong. The comradere of the launch day lines is an option I personally enjoyed.

No kidding. She must have been over ruled on this one. Gotta build the hype. Not gonna be much camaraderie in this one. :apple:

What a way to piss off the faithful. If rumored supply constraints are true then there won't be enough stock to fulfill preorders let alone release-day walk ins. Apple needs to say how many units they will have in each store. If it is only five or ten of each model then they don't need to encourage 100 people or more to camp out in a fruitless quest to secure the latest and greatest.

Sure, it will look good in pictures to see a line stretching around the block in New York City, but with today's technology based supply chain and what is supposed to be the world's greatest logistician at the helm of Apple there is no way they won't know exactly how many they will have on hand at launch. It serves no useful purpose to keep that a secret when the press will easily figure it out after the fact based on how many customers actually walk out the store with a phone.

Maybe I am wrong or do not remember correctly, but Angela only said that she wants the people to have a choice? Or did she say something different that I missed?

So there’s a chance that when I’m gonna to make the pre order in Friday, I’ll be able to picked up in the Apple store near me? Right?

Here’s another thing. There’s a return policy. People will buy the iPhone X even if they’re on the fence about it. They will own it, test it and if they don’t like it they’ll return it and get an 8/8 Plus.

And ANOTHER thing Lol... We live in a time where everyone wants to make a profit. Resellers will be trying to make a profit of $500+ on the phones.

People absolutely want this phone whether they are early adopters, “must-havers”, resellers, elitists, Apple fanboys or whoever.

There are plenty of hipsters out there that will spend $1000 on an Apple phone just “because”. There are also plenty of people that don’t want to spend almost $300 up front, then $30 a month for two years on a phone with a notch and no home button.

The limited supply of this phone will most certainly sell out and it will be a hot product because it’s a new iPhone. After the initial rush, I suspect sales will steady and you’ll see fairly even sales between the 7,8, and X.

The only record broken here is the price being paid for a smartphone.

I doubt it. I don't think they have ever had unlocked on launch day.

What people don’t know is that Verizon Device-Only, Sprint Device-Only and SIM-Free are all the exact same model.

Last year was the first year that SIM-Free iPhones were available right away. They were also available right away with the 8/8 Plus and will likely be available with X considering they’re already showing up in Apple Store inventory. None in stock tho right now of course.

If you buy a Verizon or Sprint phone with no tie to a carrier then it is unlocked.

Why would they do that? First of all, they do not have an obligation to disclose that, only to disclose how many they sold. Apple wouldn't say that they will be in Stock for walk in customers if it would 10 units. That's why they didn't do it with the Apple Watch, because there was clearly not enough stock.

And let's not act like it's the first time that only the first in line will get the phone. It happened with every launch. Even the iPhone 8 was sold out at some places.

I think the pick-up quantity is different from the "walk-in" stock so in theory, yes.

"Get it while supplies lasts!"
"Only one left!"
"You better hurry!"

Oldest tricks in the book. What do you think a seller would say? There's a ton of that at the back? They want us to say SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

The more they say those things, the faster we want it as it creates urgency and panic. I was going to go there even if I didn't happen to get one. Launch day experiences for this is going to be special!

November 3, 2017 - iPhone Xperience Day

I remember after picking up my pre-ordered iPhone 4 at Best Buy on launch, I went to the Apple Store in Cerritos which was a grand opening and still got applauded when all I wanted to buy was a $30 bumper! The line was insane. Probably 200-300 outside. Got a bottled water and free black shirt that said Los Cerritos with a tiny Apple logo.

June 24, 2010 was such a lovely day. Never forget it. Better than Sony PS3 launch. Gotta keep showing the iPhone 5 launch video even though I was no longer in the States when 5 through 7 were launched. Just love seeing so many happy faces and knowing they can feel like rock stars just for a moment.

One of the best videos Apple has ever made. Captures so much joy. It's like grown ups feeling like that 8-year old child inside of them on Christmas morning feeling giddy when they open their presents...

The only record that will be broken, will be the price people paid for a smartphone.

People being mad about price are funny. A mid-tier iPhone used to be $299+Tax with a 2 Year Contract and in those days phone bills were higher AND the full price of the phone was baked into your monthly bill. Now that things are more transparent people are more upset.

I think sales will steady too. I agree that a lot of people also won’t want the phone. No home button, Face ID and that notch are going to take some getting used to.
