So there’s a chance that when I’m gonna to make the pre order in Friday, I’ll be able to picked up in the Apple store near me? Right?

I think this is the $64,000 question. I'm going to say that all the in store phones will go to Apple Upgrade Pre-Orders for those already in the program prior to this launch. Period. :apple:

People being mad about price are funny. A mid-tier iPhone used to be $299+Tax with a 2 Year Contract and in those days phone bills were higher AND the full price of the phone was baked into your monthly bill. Now that things are more transparent people are more upset.
Regardless, people have gotten used to cheaper prices across the industry, due to TMobile’s John Legere shaking things up.

The old method / pricing was a scam that people were forced into. Now they have choices.

There are almost 500 Apple Stores worldwide.
Even so, that’d be roughly 1,000 phones per store. That’s assuming each store gets the same amount. I’m sure there are locations that’d get more and some that’d get less. Even if they limited phones to 100,000 for brick and mortar, that’s still 200 phones per store which is a decent amount. Let’s just hope my pre-order goes through and I don’t have to wait in line all night and then work all day afterwards .

True true. It’s definitey going to be interesting to see how many X’s we’ll see in the wild and if the reaction will be mostly positive.

Lolol yeah I hope pre-order is smooth especially because I did the Upgrade Program preapproval.

this ticks me off a bit - we will all be up early this Friday to per-order and i bet many of us won't get one at launch - yet apple says they will have some in the stores and to be sure to line up early - 1. the store units should be for us - the per-order group - the most loyal customers 2. this is purely for Wall ST - they want visible lines to make headlines because initial sales will be low and they don't want WS freaking out.

As long as you are not in the upgrade program, there is an easy workaround: pre-order for launch day. If you are not in the first batch of deliveries, you can line up in front of the store and if you are lucky enough to get one, just cancel the online order.

I actually did that in the past - my order was not in the first batch, but on launch day while driving to work I passed a small AT&T store (back in the days when I still used them) and there were only a few people in line. I stopped, asked the employee if they have enough phones (it was still before the store officials opened), he said yes, I canceled my online order and got one in the store once it opened... problem solved - you can have the best of both worlds.

However, theses days I am in the upgrade program, so I don't know if I can just cancel that without issues - but I am also older and wiser now and having it on launch day is no longer a must have (but still a nice to have :) ... so I will get up at 3am)

Here’s another thing. There’s a return policy. People will buy the iPhone X even if they’re on the fence about it. They will own it, test it and if they don’t like it they’ll return it and get an 8/8 Plus.

You will see multiple people in the forums who will purchase and return multiple phones because they swear there is a piece of dust in the upper left corner, the gap between the screen and the body is an 1/8 of a millimeter greater on the left side than the right side, there appears to be a faint color variance in the bottom quarter quadrant of the screen, etc, etc.

They will post pictures that no one else will be able to see what they are talking about, all while others can't find one to buy or are still waiting on their pre-order. watch and see.

Have to laugh at the people saying/thinking "if you are not in the first 20 you are not getting one". Yeah, going to send 20 units to each of their 500+ stores. Too funny...shockingly, people actually believe this.

Interesting, but this is like most previous years. There’s so much stock that will be available during pre-order for launch day delivery/pick-up and then there will be so much stock sent to the Apple stores, carrier stores, etc for launch day walk-ins. Pre-order shipping times will immediately start slipping the longer one waits past midnight and anyone trying to order online will not see their phone for whatever extended time. At the same, some lucky people who decide to try their luck by queuing up in line will be able to get their X that day. Nothing new there.

If supplies really are constrained - maybe just not at the 2-3 million of last report - then it will be interesting to see just how fast shipping times slip in relation to the availability for walk-ins to purchase for this launch.

Excellent share price strategy.

What kind of share price strategy? Not stock shares. Investors like to see actual sales, not customers waiving their $ that a company can't take. IF the X is as constrained as analyst say and Apple punks these customers -- not a good thing for the stock. If it looks like Apple will have a lower revenue holiday quarter than last years the stock will get some selling pressure.

and to think someone will be desperate enough to pay over retail value for a $1050-1200 phone from the scalper market

When I'm getting in to the apple store app theres an option like this right now!

This is brilliant. Frankly the Apple Store I have access to doesn’t look any more spectacular than the shoe store I pass on my way to it. But with media attention on the lines outside those select few gorgeous new stores that have been opened or remodeled, what better way than reviving the old iPhone queue to draw attention to the town square concept Angela has been selling lately.

Definitely some kind of disconnect here. If Kuo and co. are right why would Apple do this. But then why would Kuo and other's want to "cry wolf" on such a prominent launch? I mean they've been wrong before but this time people will remember because they calls of thin launch supply is so extreme. Either Apple or Kuo and Co will end up embarrassed. That is a long list of launch countries. One would think if supply was so constrained the # of launch countries would be too.Don't think that is the case, but $1100 + tax is no inexpensive even in monthly payments. We'll see Friday how it shakes out.
Maybe they decided not to constrain the number of launch countries this time to send the message once and for all that Apple is not an American Company anymore but a global one with a commitment to providing equal level of access and service to all countries in which it has a retail presence. It would fall in line with what Tim Cook has actually been saying for quite awhile now, especially to China.
