No joke, I'm about to cry. Apple is turning into an f------ disgrace. I can't believe it, the company is slowly repeating its past demise. Steve Jobs would be crying as well. This is just terrible news. We want beautiful electronics on our desks, in our homes, things of inspiration, designed and made by Apple based on high design values. That's the whole point of buying into Apple. Great products. A new display from Apple is not a tough thing to figure out. It doesn't need LG branding or input. Sack the person responsible for this nonsense. I truly fear I will read tomorrow Apple has partnered with Motorola to make a new version of iPhone. I'm concerned Tim Cook has secretly been using a Compaq all this time. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AT APPLE?

I wonder if the 27bin monitor will work with TB2 and adaptor?

Makes sense. Let display makers do what they do best... Make displays. And at a better price.

The 5K LG display (with collaboration from Apple) sounds pretty nice.
Well, they never really made displays, I don't think. They designed them. It seems odd to me that Apple didn't want to devote a little a bit of their resources and design a new display?!? Users with MacBooks who want an external display could have a complete Apple setup. And the Mac Pro needs a display, although many Mac Pro users didn't like the display from Apple and bought a even higher end more professional display. Maybe because Apple sold so few displays they didn't want it to take up valuable space in an Apple Store?

Don't see how that is clear since they just released new pro laptops less than 24 hours ago. They never said they would release updated desktops for yesterday those are expected early next year when we will see new iMacs and potentially new Mac Pros
Ya. They couldn't be bothered to work on more than one product at once. Needed to get emoji support in the MacBook pro line pronto! Now we've got the emoji touchbar. Pro life is good!

Dude. Get a grip.

Anyone using a Mac to earn their living will disagree with you there. So thats pretty much all record producers and engineers and according to last week, a large chunk of IBM!

Not true at all. I use my Mac to earn my living as a music producer and I find myself, talking more and more to colleagues, about them either deciding to go Hackintosh, or why the 15" MBPr are actually better than base model Pros, and even going as far to say as the iMacs are pointless.

Fo us who make a living off of our macs, I'll say, I believe most of us are actually very silent on the sadness and somewhat anger we have been feeling toward Apple, in the las 2 years.

ANYWAY, they're probably going to go back to printers and palm pilots. This time, there will be no Jobs to come in and "Shut that **** down", as Negan would say.

Thanks for the reply. Will any monitor that supports USB-C do video and power passthrough? I assume if I connect a new MBP to the monitor via USB-C it will display the screen, charge/power the laptop and also be a port replicator.
USB-C is USB, it will be supported and all the features should work.

they were overpriced re-branded monitors anyway - Apple forgot how to make a monitor ages ago. My ACD30 is still alive and kicking. :)

I bought my last iMac in honor of Apple's recent demise. Yes, the design is dated but it harkens back to time time when they cared about aesthetics.

Agreed. It's been five or so years since people started complaining about Apple not being a "pro" company anymore (whatever that means), and there's still people complaining about the same things. Either Apple is still releasing products that they like, or they've taken five years to put their money where their mouth is and buy products from a company that meets their needs.

Either way, most of the people in this thread need to move on from Apple. Anything that causes the kind of heart wrenching turmoil we're seeing here isn't worth it.

Well, you just don't throw away decades of loyalty on a petulant whim.

Apple fans are used to waiting and hoping. That's why we visit rumor sites...

BTW, I've been waiting for a Mac to replace my 2011 MBP 17" since, well, 2011. I used to upgrade yearly. But I LOVE my 17". And I LOVE the macOS, recent warts and all.

So yes, 5 years of disappointment will certainly turn to anger when Apple releases nothing that can truly replace my stuff.

Being left with the option of leaving Apple or settling with something inferior (to what Apple made previously) is the DEFINITION of frustration.

Who of us here really want to go to Windows?

I don't ever make posts or comments... but felt compelled to articulate my views and frustrations.
Like many here - I would consider myself , and have been told that I am a true advocate of the Apple brand, who personally invests immediately in the latest of all that comes to market from Apple having spent tens of thousands over the years adding to the Apples billions from iMacs/ MacBook Pro's/ Mac Books/iPhone 7Plus / iPhone6S Plus/iPhone 6 / etc..Time capsules / Apple watches / Apple TV's oh ! and Apple Cinema Displays !!!- a household full of them for me, and the rest of my family.
For the last 3 years, I have waited patiently for the next Apple monitor.... thinking this would follow the latest MacBook Keynote.
Prepared to spend thousands on the latest 15" MacBook and a new screen and all the accessories ... I couldn't contain my excitement !
So now I read Apple are out of the stand alone business !! really ?
Do I want an LG screen ..... I think not!

Have Apple become disconnected form there core consumer ?

Well Mr Cook! - If you ever get to read my post, I hope I can convey in some way the utter discapointment I have, and what a great example to other brands, how to totally alienate the nirvana of a consumer that all brands seek.
You have now permanently lost in a consumer and customer what every brand works so had to recruit.
That lifetime loyal consumer...

All good things come to an end !

Beta testing / pre orders / iTunes / Cloud storage the works ...

Good luck for the future Apple

My new journey begins.

“Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”

Fine, but can one company -- ANY COMPANY -- put in 5 seconds to figure out how to make these displays not so BLOODY UGLY? I mean, this $1300 LG monitor -- way to make a home look like an accountant's office.
Exactly. All these other manufactures have zero idea about clean design. It's atrocious.

Upper Apple management has become 'suits'.

My older 20" cinema still works on my G5 tower that I've had for 10 years. (just used for older software). My current TB display is just fine. I'm older now and I think I'll just buy a new Mac Mini to stick back in case my 2012 dies. I figure it's only good for many 2 more software upgrades anyway.

This is now a lackluster company. It's unbelievable they can't find a way to better utilize the money and talents they had.

The 'magic', to me, is gone.

Elegance? As a photographer I would just like an accurate an well-performing calibrateable display that integrates with the Mac. Seems the LG hits that.

If others would rather have a nice piece of "display art" in brushed aluminum, that's fine. I'm sure there's someone out their who will take your money and oblige.

Yeah, and why paint walls or clean carpets when they're dirty, and may as well as get the crappiest ugly furniture, or not even bother with decent clothing. As a media professional I deeply understand that esthetics are an integral part of my environment.

Design esthetics is an integral part of the Apple experience, but it may not matter if you never interact face to face with clients. I know it matters to me even when no one else is around.

They should also abandon Mac Pro and Mac Mini business.
It will come to that, just wait. They will soon abandon Airport modem/router series as well.

Apple should completely get out of the computer business and concentrate on selling only phones.

Well, now it makes sense why they dropped the "computer" from their name.

Yesterday I thought it couldn't get worse as Im staring at the last displays we'll ever produce while knowing prototypes have been in existence for quite a while.

Jobs remained to introduce the iPad, the true inspiration for the iPhone. Cook slowly began making decisions well before it was "official", shutting down numerous pro-app departments and R&D to focus on consumer markets. Cook killed the CCFL LCD display line in '08 by opting to maximize profit margins with one size based on then current iMac LED LCD panels. The form factor and materials were available, it was inexpensive with a larger profit margin than the 20"/23"/30" displays. Many hoped Cook's decision to keep the Mac Pro in ~2012 was a glimmer of hope that Apple would refocus on systems worthy of their reputation and price tags. This week, we've been proven wrong.

I can't say that I'm surprised, nor am I disappointed, though my LED Cinema display is going strong and not showing any signs of slowing down
