If they support x64 for a few more years, which they have to do because the Mac Pro is still Intel, then it buys enough time to figure it out.
Some apps will support both ARM and intel architecture for a few extra years but Apple won't, just like when they transitioned from PowerPC to Intel. I think next year will be the last macOS compatible with Intel.

All I hear from Apple is excuses. How can Dell do this? Of course if I was gonna get a new computer right now it would most likely be an iMac. These MacBook pros are way overpriced.

Intel macs are becoming so cheap now...so if even these 14" Mbp and 16" Mbp are overpriced for you based on their capabilities.....i mean, thats clear just envy...i had your Dell hot cake...they have 1 lens 1080p and no true tone sensors

Isn’t that two years though?

2021 - 2022 - Monterey
2022 - 2023 - ???

I’m not suggesting building a Hackintosh, I just think running Parallels on macOS M1 is nullified by my ability to make a Hackintosh.

Windows on Mac
Mac on Windows

I also don’t run Parallels and try to use native hardware.

I am a software developer.

I own Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and ChromeOS.

I also have a Windows Phone. :)

When you say all I need is macOS…

Two year transition since the first M1 chip release I think.

Is anyone actually complaining about the notch that matters?

They've turned bezel into usable screen real estate. What are folk complaining about? I'm sure there will be a mod or something which will allow you to keep that screen area constantly blackened out so it looks like unusable bezel if you are deeply offended?

But I suspect the complainers are not actual buyers of the machine.

Steve Jobs also said we didn't need an App Store because we could just do it all with web apps. The man made mistakes. Let's skip the revisionist history, please.

Let’s not forget when Steve Jobs forced that horrible U2 album in all of our iPhones…I’ll never forgive him for that. This is the problem with Apple…they think they know what’s “best” for us professional users.

Using Parallels on macOS is like paying a pizza guy to pick up McDonalds.

The pizza store goes out of business.

I was under the impression that the notch on M1 Mac was to say Apple is Apple, not Windows.

Wasn't the U2 album fiasco a Tim Cook thing? That whole...concept...brought us this ultra-cringeable moment:

Still the new Macbook Pro is way more powerful than an XPS from Dell though it's possible to mount an external GPU to increase performance. In about a year or two Apple will completely transition to ARM based macOS, kinda x86 hackintosh days are numbered.

If x86 Hackintosh numbers were hurting Apple's bottom line, then bean counter Tim Cook has a LOT more things to worry about than the notch! I see no big groundswell of support for ARM either. Certainly not Microsoft. Steve Jobs would have handled this totally different, but I'm tired of repeating truths. Tim Cook is the only cheerleader, and a bad one at that.

They aren’t gana drop machines from Mac OS that are less than a year old

I don’t think Apple is at fault here.

Apple is being very clear. They transitioned away from Intel to M1 and put a notch on their phones and MacBook Pros. What else do you want them to do?

I thought grown men acting like ADHD children on youtube was the most annoying thing in the world, but it turns out grown women acting like ADHD children is even worse.

About the notch, it's just more screen space, it's purely additive. Stop whining. If you want to whine, focus on the clunky ugly curve of the case, it looks like ****.

Shame they didn’t make any use of the massive chin. They deleted the tacky MacBook Pro text but just left it blank. Why not also grow the display down? Or did I just leak the plans for MBP2023?
SPOILER

Next years, and in fact the next 3+ years, will be largely identical in physical design.

No way are Apple implementing big design changes every year in the MBP line because picky forum blowhards aren’t 100% happy, while the vast, vast majority of owners are extremely happy with their purchase.

I was all for it, more music, free, who cares if it was from Mother Teresa and the Noise Makers. I thought everyone complaining about that, were like entitled children. Then complaining about it again 20yrs later... come.on.

While I was seeing the keynote about the new MBP all I was thinking in the back of my head, is that with a well-configured system I would have a portable Mac Pro at my fingertips. The least I cared about was the introduction of the notch because if it was there it was for a good reason, quite honestly it was forgettable 2 seconds later.

MacBook Pro 14" with M1-Max 10/24 cores CPU/GPU + 1TB + 32GB Unified Ram = A portable Mac Pro to do my work. This is a Win-Win scenario for me. The second the App Store was open I ordered one of those babies at $3100. I'm going to be happy as a kid on Christmas when it arrives at my house in the next couple of days.

If you don't like the notch, there are a million other PC's out there that are notch-less, including older MBP's go get one and be happy. Your complaining about it is not going to deter anyone who wants to get their hands on one of these systems.

The one other thing I was thinking about as they did the MBP presentation was how much these MacBooks Pro reminded me of the G1 aluminum PowerBooks (I'm not talking about Unibody, but previous-gen before that).
