Not a notch hater necessarily. Form should follow function after all. But they could at least have used this opportunity to add Face ID to a Mac. In this particular application there’s no reason for the notch to exist if the owner never uses the webcam. That’s an awkward design problem in my book.

I love the notch. It’s almost certainly why you can turn off menu bar hiding in Monterey, and that’s been #1 on my list of wanted features in macOS for years.

Of course I don’t actually plan on buying a new MacBook Pro anytime soon. I do find the notch and rounded corners annoying on my iPhone, especially holding it landscape. But I live with it. I do think the notch will be less bad on the Mac.

Way to post a close up picture to try to hid it, I could do the same with the notch and the photo would look the same, maybe you should become a politician
I'm sitting here at my M1 iMac, and I just don't understand your comments.
And, goobot, I am a technical developer and quite familiar with such components.

Bwahahaha ? must be true when Apple say something like that, just like with the TouchBar.

Apple Keynote Oct 2016:
10:31 am: Tim Cook: “... blah blah blah for 25 years, we've been defining and redefining what a notebook is and what a notebook can do. And today, we're going to do it again.” ?

THE TOUCHBAR! ? ??????✌️

10:33 am: Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller is on stage to talk about the new MacBook Pro.

10:33 am: Phil Schiller: "It is the new gold standard in notebook computers. It enables innovations not possible before."

Now, RIP TouchBar!
Same with the Notch, best thing since the invention of sliced bread. ?

The Notch is a failure, just like the TouchBar was.

Wanna be creative? Sell one SKU without the bloody notch / camera and let me use my iPhone for necessary video calls.

Apart from making 1080p there’s zero other stuff that’s in iPads, no Face ID, nothing exceeding it in terms of using it for video calls… yet another Tim Cook era solution in search of a problem

Those thinking that Apple is going to reduce the notch, isn't going to happen any time soon. The only thing that Apple is going to do with this design for the next 3-4 years is update the internals of the device. The screen and ports will remain mostly the same but maybe slightly updated.

It's not like they will say it's an ugly and inelegant but, they judge, necessary compromise. But that's the situation before us now and we will have to accept it or go elsewhere.

Think we may have to wait another 5 years for that to happen. By that time CEO, Tim Apple won’t be around.
True. But that doesn't limit me from buying a desktop. An M1 Mini Max would be a nice purchase right now.

(dang, that sounds stupid and maybe why they didn't release one) Reminds me of Mini Me.

There is more than camera. Ambient and light sensors.
They were hidden before under the speaker grill and worked just fine… no need to butcher the screen for sensors. If needed, could have hidden them under the screen to be #CuppertinoCreative

My issue is I use better snap tool like magnet to snap windows to the sides, how is this gonna work with the new MacBooks it’s gonna screw it up

It still looks bloody awful no matter how they or anyone else tries to spin it. It’s an eyesore. Not everyone likes using dark mode to try and ‘hide’ it either.

When you have to resort to using workarounds via software to try and disguise a hardware design decision then that is bad design. End of story.
I think it's clever design. End of story.
