In a statement given to BuzzFeed's John Paczkowski, Apple says the issue that was causing iOS 10 updates installed over-the-air to fail on some iPads and iPhones has been resolved.
So how is the record of this Pizzakowski guy? Is he as reliable as Ming-Chi Quo?

This is not the first time this has happened. This is a hugely popular product from a $0.5 T company.

Totally unacceptable. This is a very serious issue. There needs to be process changes, not just "we apologize".

I love how much Apple downplays serious issues. I'm sure for those "small number of users", having a completely unusable phone for hours is nothing minor. Especially those that weren't able to connect to their computer via iTunes to restore it.

Will they (Apple) pay me for the time I wasted trying to help my wife fix her phone?

So let me get his straight...

People jumped on the update right away (within the first hour), and there was a problem for some users. Apple fixed the problem within the hour. But this is "total unacceptable", right? Where's the user responsibility on this? Technology is extremely complex, and stuff happens. People should be thanking Apple for responding so quickly instead of berating them for not being "perfect".

What is the gold masters release of this? As I am unable to get apple's servers to communicate with me to get the latest GM release, the version I have installed currently is; 10.0.1 (14A403) and it says it's the latest update... although I've had this on my phone for the last few weeks so I doubtful it's up to date..

10.0.1 was released last week as the GM build, same as being released today to the public there's nothing for you to update to.

I like it. No problems so far. Seems snapier. Made some changes to the widget screen changed music to sort by song title and choose Apple Music as default location to search for music.

There is amazing amount of fragmentation now in Apple products. Imagine you buy an iPhone 7 and get a dock. Where are you supposed to plugin your new earpods with lightning connector while the phone is charging? Can I say Steve Jobs would have not allowed this or someone will troll me for it.
the only thing Steve Jobs would not have allowed is the number of comments alleging what Steve Jobs would do or say

I can't wait till tech companies start pumping out automobiles lol

GM had a key ignition switch issue where if they keys were too heavy it would turn your car off completely. Was an issue for years that GM chose to ignore it. People died and no one went to jail.

So much self entitlement in this thread.

You know the risks of updating as soon as it's released, it's not Apple'a fault.
Not Apple's fault? Are you for real?

The victim blaming and apologism in this thread is beyond the pale.

So Apple has the courage to dump a audio jack, but not the courage to ensure their customers; who by-the-way are purchasing an experience, are able to enjoy new software; software that was designed and built in partnership with hardware...

On the flip side, He who wants to be first, cries first...
just create the account? which marketing firm hired you?

Guess what? They made a mistake, they acknowledged it, they fixed it. It doesn't matter who they are, whether they have £200 billion in their account, they are all human at the end of the day. NO-ONE is perfect.

Apple needs to do better. the beta gold master worked fine. its always when they wrap it up for the general release that they screw something up.

This was an issue with the software update mechanism, not the version of iOS. And there's a huge difference between distributing to a controlled, known number of registered users than to the larger population around the world.

Apple recommends creating a backup before installing
Do they post that recommendation on the device (before the update) or in some obscure corner of their website? Because if memory serves me right, it just says "download and install" on the device, which is the only announcement most users will see.

The amount of Apple apologists in here... "It's your fault for updating within the first hour" "Technology is complex" "Stuff happens"

It's so hilarious. It doesn't hurt Apple or anyone to admit Apple can fail sometimes as well.

So if I started the download like an hour ago (hotel wifi...terrible) do I have to stop it, restart the phone and re-try the download? I'm concerned it's still pulling down the bad file that was out before the fix.

The Cult of Apple handbook clearly states that apologies aren't warranted because the motto is "It just works"

Minor issue. It only lasted one hour. 99.999 percent of updates will do fine

Good point. Like I said in the other thread, only the chumps and suckers download iOS releases so early (on a mission critical device, like your only phone). At least on all my devices they do not push the update with the Settings app red icon badge until they've confirmed there are no issues. Well, usually they don't.

The real question now is who gets Steved for this farkup. Because you know if he still ran Apple then somebody would be having a very, very bad day right now.

Apple says the issue that was causing iOS 10 updates installed over-the-air to fail on some iPads and iPhones has been resolved, making it safe to resume iOS 10 downloads.Shortly after iOS 10 was released, a number of people who attempted to install iOS 10 using an over-the-air download saw their installation fail, effectively bricking devices until plugged into iTunes for an update or restore. For people who are not near a computer or who do not own one, this is a significant problem.

Users who were already affected by the problem will need to continue on with the restore process using a computer, but new users who attempt to install the update should not run into the problem.

Apple recommends creating a backup before installing any new iOS update, and those worried about having the install fail can instead download the update through iTunes, an installation method that has not been affected.
