What are you talking about? How am I not a "real member"? And how am I removed from the situation, I bought a 12.9'' that was bent and already returned it. I'd say I am part of the situation.

YOU WERENT IN THE FOXCONN FACTORY WHEN SAID DEVICE WAS WHIPPED TOGETHER IN A FRACTION OF A SECOND SO YOU CANT SAY

SOMEONE MIGHTVE SAT ON THE BOX IN THE BACK OFFICE BEFORE HANDING YOU THE DEVICE IN THE STORE

Reeeeeeeeee

some 2018 iPad Pro models are indeed shipping with a "very slight bend in the aluminum chassis," which is not negatively effect the iPad's performance "in any practical way."

I am sorry but I have to disagree. I like to lay my iPad on the table while writing on the screen with the Apple Pencil. Even a slight bend would cause the tablet to wobble. This is not acceptable at all.

Luckily, I don’t own the 2018 ipad. Only the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9” which doesn’t bend even though I have put it in and out of my backpack for 1.5 years.

On a side note: this is probably the price we have to pay when Apple get the device thinner and thinner.

Even that wording is offensive and kind of hypocritical.

VERY slight. EXTREMELY minor. VIVIDLY inconsequential. NOTICEABLY subtle.

I don’t have one, so I’m not going to get too bent out of shape over this, but I think this is Ridiculous. Somebody should be canned.

Guys, if we don’t act offended by Apple’s absurd mindset, then we can never persuade them from running into this issue again with the newer generation iPad Pros.

They won’t act or prevent this from ever happening again if we just sit here and do nothing.

We shouldn’t give them a pass on this, bent iPad Pros are not acceptable.

This is clearly a defect. And Apple needs to do better about this in the future for their iPad Pro designs, just like they did with the iPhone 6 situation.

Longtime lurker here. I’m slowly losing faith in Apple. To the point where I bought a OnePlus 6t and used it for a week because I’m sick of them pulling crap like the following:
  • Announcing vaporware like AirPower, the new Mac Pro, or the ekg on the watch. They changed the return policy a day after I sold mine, and when I called up, customer service was totally rude and unprofessional about the situation, not even a sympathetic ‘sorry’
  • The massive year over year price inflation
  • Anticompetitive practices like not implementing open standards like VP9, RCS - yeah, it’s not fully baked and android phones don’t all have it yet, but if apple flipped it on, that would change, but the green message shame must live on. And don’t even get me started on the choice of lightning over usb-c.
  • Selling old products (MacBook Air, Mac Pro) at premium prices- we all know a poor soul who recently bought the old MacBook Air
  • The fact I can - mostly - only use Siri with Apple services - no Spotify, but now Apple Music works with Alexa...? Just downright confusing. Like, Siri gets the job done if you’re all in, but she still kinda sucks
  • Battery throttling without consumer consent until they were called out on it
  • Locking users into the newest version of iOS
  • iCloud storage is a joke
  • and now bent iPads are a feature?!
The 6t was great, but I missed some really simple things like haptics, iMessage, swiping to go back, and tapping to scroll to the top (yeah, I’m picky). And the scrolling physics bothered me. But if Apple continues this trend of - dare I say - hostility towards their loyal fan base I may have to suck it up and leave. I have no problem paying a premium for their products given the fact that they “just work” and are theoretically more private, built better, etc. But we’re getting to a point where competitor products also “just work” while also being exponentially more open and more cost effective. Apple’s defense strategy appears to be nonexistent. A few disgruntled loyal customers don’t matter. But I’m noticing a general trend here on Macrumors of increasing distrust towards Apple. Like a love/hate relationship that so many of us are putting up with. They have to know how people like me feel because if they don’t do something soon, they’re going to lose us. Or at least end up with people like me who are frustrated but unable to leave.
Sorry if this comes across as trivial or whiny, but it’s like walking with a pebble in your shoe. It’s tolerable for a bit, but when it’s stuck in there for awhile, it starts to hurt and eventually bleed. If they listened to like 1% of what we had to say, things would improve massively. End of knee-jerk rant.

Would be nice for them to bring back headphone jack too. Feels inexcusable for such a large surface area device to forego that. Spare dongle hell on the tablet !

I don’t care much on the phone but hopping between devices with airpods isn’t as convenient as a dedicated paired device and occasional wired for the others. Especially if, Gulp, mac goes headphone jack-less

Jony Ive: We 'chamfered' the edges and use lasered al-you-min-eee-uhm with a tolerance higher than aerospace engineering. The final product is a seamless experience without imperfection.

Final product ships with one end 2mm higher than the other.

Jony Ive Edit: Uh, our 4-year research study concluded a 5 degree random bend results in the most comfortable-to-hold, most personal, iPad ever.

"Some" is anything less than 100%. So the defect rate could be 99.9% and the statement would still be technically truthful.

Not that I'm saying it is 99.9%. Just pointing out that the vagueness of the wording seems unlikely to be an accident. Moreso given the world-class PR, marketing and advertising resources available.

True. Since Apple has presumably not received back 100% of the manufactured iPads for examination, and some people have reported the bend issue (and some have not), the word some is an apt descriptor.

What other word would have been more appropriate by Apple's "world-class PR" group ?

Holy smokes Apple!!!!!!!
There was a time when NONE OF THIS would have been acceptable or "normal" and it would have NEVER left the factory in the first place.

Gone are the days of Steve Jobs.....if you were ever in doubt... given the last few years or iPhone mess, iMac, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, Trashcan Mac etc etc.

They are ONLY saying this is normal because they don't want to deal with all the returns.

Money money money

Just WOW!!!!!!!!

I must warn everyone that this is going to cause problems in the future.

I had an iPhone 6Plus that was bent, the apple store guy never agreed that it was bent and I took it easy until later on I dropped and shattered the screen. I went to the store to get it fixed and the store refused to fix it because the case was bent which means the new screen won't sit well on it and even if they force fit it then the screen might pop out after a few days.

They said I needed to pay $350 to get the whole device replaced as that's the only way.

I’ve got an idea for the next marketing campaign: the iPad Pro Comfort, the iPad Pro that is already broken in for you—-uniquely bent form factor right out of the box. Buy now and receive a free pair of stonewashed jeans, holes and tears included!

I was going to buy an Apple laptop for Christmas, but I think I'll hold off for a while longer. I could get a decent gaming PC for the price of one of their laptops, and I don't really need portability as much as I used to.

I don't feel like rewarding a company that behaves this way, or their decisions and prices for the 2016+ MacBook Pros.

Yes, me too.
I was also going to buy a new Macbook Pro as a Christmas present to my self.
I will wait and see what happens in 2019 and if all they do is update processors or hd space I'm waiting until 2020.
There's always plenty of Windows based machines for half the price that do the same.
PLUS Apple doesn't have a 15 inch without the touch bar.
How lame.
