My goodness, who's doing their PR and advertising for goodness sake... Fire those idiots already... (facepalm)

Is it so hard to believe that Apple products continue to work great for most of their customers? Apple isn’t exactly holding a gun to my head and forcing me to buy their products. If people continue to stick with Apple products despite their flaws, then logic goes to show that they remain superior to other alternatives, issues and all.

The grass ain’t always greener on the other side.

Nope, not buying it. Not one bet. What a joke of a response. When a company sells their products as premium, and at a premium price tag, there is ZERO excuse for that premuim product to be considered as normal, when it comes out of the box bent. What a bloody joke to even make an excuse for it. Nothing worse than blind followers that make excuses for these extremely greedy and shameless corporations. Makes the industry worse for the rest of us that have higher expectations.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard come from Apple. Even worse than Steve’s “you’re holding it wrong.” Clearly either Apple’s process, allowable tolerances, or possibly both need adjusted. I wonder if they ever fixed the issue where top cases were arriving scratched from way back when the 2016 MBPs launched. So much for precision this and laser that.

What excuse is there?

If you are not happy with your iPad, then either return it or don’t get one.

I got one, and am using it very happily. I might sing a different tune in the future should it (Touch wood) get bent somehow, but my experiences with Apple thus far have been positive enough that I will willingly take my chances.

The choice always has been, and always will be, yours.

Come on dude. Just like your brand new Mercedes (or even a friggen Honda FFS) is supposed to come with a dent in it, your iPad should come with a bend in it. It just adds character, and certainly Apple wouldn’t deny a repair for it in the future even though it came that way.

Manufacturing DEFECT. Replace the bent ones. Fix your QA.

I would argue it's not a manufacturing defect. Instead (as many here have already said) it's a design flaw. Simply too thin and fragile (as many here have pointed out) to remain un-bent after any amount of real world use. So fragile, in fact, just packaging it up and/or changes in temperature are causing it to bend even BEFORE it gets any real-world use!

Apple playing 4D chess here.

"The iPad is too thin and the construction too weak. Look! It's bent from just normal use."
"No, its not."
"Yes, it is! Look, I set on my oak table and you can see the air-gap here while the edges touch the table."
"That's not because it got bent from being too thin."
"It was flat when I bought it, and it's not now, so..."
"How do you know that?"
"What? Are you saying you're making them pre-bent?"
"Sometimes."

I’m happier not getting ripped off by global corporations, thanks. As soon as I saw the Jerry Rig video I decided not to buy this defective product, but there are those who preordered, bought it before the video or otherwise haven’t seen the video that trusted Apple’s (diminishing) reputation that they’d receive a product with a build quality commensurate with the price, which they clearly didn’t. You seem to be in the vast minority to think otherwise.

Apple knew fully well about its structural weaknesses but decided they didn’t want to pony up the few extra dollars to use a stronger aluminium like the phones now use. Tim Cook is a Scrooge that loves money just too much!

The thing is, this product is structurally weak and prone to breaking. If you don’t think that’s a problem just look at the screen repair prices! You shouldn’t have to baby an expensive professional product. Paying more should give you better not poorer build quality. Apple’s response is the icing on the cake. Only a ****** company would say that. Apple got to where it is by not being that ****** company, but Tim Cook is doing everything he can to trash that reputation.
Do we know this for a fact? The 10.5” iPad was built like a tank and mine survived a few drops. My 11” is not bent and it seems pretty sturdy after more than a month of daily use.

We've worked together for nearly 15 years and he still laughed at the way I said Aluminium.

You're not getting it, it's not about your devices you have, it's about Apple's statement. You're beloved Apple just said a brand new iPad having a bend in it is NORMAL. The fact you have nothing to say about that, and are totally fine with buying products from a company that has this belief, says it all. I would tell you to put down the Kool Aid, but you too far gone. There's not a doubt in my mind you would not accept any other company that would dare make such a disicable statement about their so called premium product. Can't imagine the disgust you would spew in these forums if you bought a Samsung Monitor, and it came with a dent/scratch, and Samsung's response was, "it's normal." Absolutely disicable and shameless

The main issue for me is that the original iPad was STRONG with a capital S. you could not break that thing. Whereas the current crop are thin and light but you can destroy them with your bare hands with ease!

Sure no one should be doing that on purpose but the point is that strength is a requirement most people assume it's built into the design! Seriously thinner and lighter but the same integrity is more important than weight.

I hope they correct this in the next version. Surely a carbon fibre design over aluminum would be a better option and probably as cost effective now. Bend resistance needs to come to the forefront once again. Apple you're doing it wrong.

A bend out of the box is a defect. Stop being cheap, Tim. Take care of your customers.

A bend out of the box is definitely a defect. That's why you get 2 weeks to return the product after you created your click bait YouTube videos and get your money back. No drama!
iPad Pro 2018 are thin products, which is one of the things I love about them. Now I get it that people are thick enough to dumb them in rucksacks with a heavy load and stuff. Laws of physics do apply here (iPad pro are not exempt) Breakable things do break, bendable things do bend. Don't care what YouTube "stars" who generate fortune by targeting Apple products to create the next "Gate" will tell you. MacRumors is not different either. Titles like the one above give them a hell lot of clicks and comments (as it clearly has in this case)

Here's one.

Apple employs a lot of non-hardening adhesive in their products. That's good for resilience, as the adhesive stays tacky and constantly adjusts throughout the product's lifecycle. That said, my concern would be the constant tension between the bent aluminum and the other straight component - such as the screen. That tension might, over time, lead to the adhesive separating. The product would either leak (i.e., allow dust or humidity to enter) or fall apart.
I would think if the case is bent it would continually place a stress on the display.

So I went into the Apple Store with Face ID issues and the store accused me of acedently damaging my iPad Pro 12.9 inch. Eventually they agreed to order a replacement unit, when it finally came we opened the Box and low and behold it was also bent. So the store ordered another and then it came.... also bent!
If the next one comes bend they should just give it to you for free.... 4/4

Apple product development is now engineering a new line of silicone cases to inaugurate the release of the new 2018 iPad Pro, while simultaneously accommodating a feature of the "manufacturing process" unique to the latest hardware release. Along with Midnight Blue, Purple, Sand, Charcoal Gray, and Rose Gold, a special (PRODUCT)ENGORGED PINK limited edition case will also be produced in order to raise awareness for Peyronie's disease. The new curved cases have a scheduled release date of December 31, 2018: a day when just about everyone is getting bent anyhow.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, when reached for comment in Cupertino this afternoon, said of the new accessories: "Remember, similar to Peyronie's disease, we may be bent but can still **** you good."

Cases will hit the street with a retail price set at $69.99.

Dink Different.

What Apple, or any other company, says about their products ultimately has nothing to do with whether or not I choose to buy their products.

Do you sell your MacBook Pro and rush out to get an iPad Pro just because Apple claims it is a viable computer replacement? No, you do your research, watch online review videos, and come to your own informed decision about whether an iPad is suitable for your needs or not.

I buy Apple products, just as I buy any product from any other company out there, for one very simple reason - they work for me. I have been using an iPad to teach in the classroom since 2012, so I know that in more ways than one, my iPad Pro is better than a conventional computer.

Likewise, if my Samsung monitor was scratched, I would simply take it up with their customer support, irrespective of what their official press statement said. As it stands, Apple at least still had physical retail stores where you can seek redress for such an issue. With a company like Samsung, my options are probably a lot more limited.

I go back to my original point. Does it suck that your iPad came bent out of the box? Yes.

Is it the end of the world? Most certainly not, since you have 2 weeks to return it for a full refund, or at least take it up with their customer support. There’s a proper channel for this sort of thing, use it.

And I most certainly won’t bitch about it in an online forum.
