In my opinion, Apple is making it's products thinner because of independent technology reviewers using 'weight and thickness' as one of the primary reasons for making a recommendation of a product.

I see it all the time now in review websites, technology magazines that have review sections in them, youtubers that review technology products, all of them use the the thinness of a device as a pro or con. It is very common to see a reviewer make a comment on a products thinness, then compare it to a competitors product, then decide if it is a pro or a con. You look at as many ipad/tablet reviews, macbook/laptop reviews and they all have one thing in common, which ever product is the thinnest, that is the one that is always given a 'pro' point towards it.

We the customers are the problem because we demand unrealistic targets to be achieved. A device is too small to read content on, screen is made bigger. Device is now larger which means more weight, customers complain how heavy the device now is. Weight is reduced by trimming out the thickness of the frames material. Now the device is too flimsy, it bends to easily and the moans and complaints continue.
Apple started this with silly talk in the keynotes.
It's 6mm thin as opposed to 6mm thick.
When you ask someones age you ask, "How old are you", not, "How young are you". The Marketing department at Apple have made a rod for their back.

and you wonder why their stock went from 230$ to 160 in a few months.
I called 165 back in October for 6 months out didnt realize it would hit it this fast.

They should of handled this professionally. Like the 6s. They knew the frame was weak on the 6+ and updated it for the 6S so it wouldn't bend.
But now they just tell you its normal if your iPad is bent brand new I really don't see good things for apple if they keep up with this nonsense. 135$ stock price within a year.

Next up: Bent $5000 MacBook Pro's being shipped and, according to Apple, this will be considered 'normal' and not defective.

B&H is a reputable company. I've been dealing with them for many years.

They would absolutely take it back. And of course Apple would as well.

B&H is a reputable company, but their policy states that they will not accept returns once opened except in the case of a defect. Since Apple has now declared that it isn’t a defect.

I have been dealing with B&H for years as well, but I won’t share your confidence unless I hear that specifically from them that they will take these back as “defective” despite Apples claim to the contrary.

B&H’s return policy for Final Sale and Non-Returnable Items includes...

- Unwrapped/opened computers and computer software.

Exceptions being...

Defective items may be repaired, exchanged or refunded at our discretion for the same model or manufacturer's equivalent model.

But a bend is not a defect according to Apple, so they have full leeway under their discretion to deny a return.

Edit: To clarify, I don’t even think it would be B&H to blame if they did refuse a return. Apples policy on this being “normal” might result in then not crediting B&H for the merchandise return/exchange, making it risky for them.

It’s risky to buy Apple products these days it seems, difficult to impossible to repair, keyboard issues in MacBooks, bent iPads, expensive “repairs” at Apple store. Man, it’s getting really hard to justify buying one of these products now. The only thing still worth it in my view is the iPhone.

Perfect statement-of-fact!

Apple's market valuation really needs to continue to tank. Maybe they'll get the point. They make products that are not only unreasonably expensive (iPhone XS/Max, 2018 iPad Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air), they're not even built that well. I'm a huge Apple user and supporter, but it's just embarrassing how pathetic some of what they're doing is lately. Absolutely inexcusable to spend that kind of money on a tablet and be told, "it's normal." I must have missed Jony Ive's contrived keynote talking about how they've designed and engineered a bend into the new iPad Pro...

I can only guess the number from experience - and by that I mean comparing the reaction and media coverage to previous issues and "gates" and numbers of affected users in those instances with the current situation -
There are so many issues with Apple stuff these days it isn't newsworthy for mass media now.

What’s really annoying about this whole situation is the fact that some people kept defending Apple by blaming forum members for mistreatment when the only thing they did was carrying their devices in laptop bags. Even if it wasn’t for this manufacturing issue, people should have never blamed others for following the expected behavior anyone with a mobile device would have. The whole “you are holding it wrong” notion is just plain wrong. Mobile devices are meant to be carried and sustain considerable damage while being carried in bags.

In dark times, the cult shows their true colors. Deny deny deny.

I like tech and apple but I’m not too thrilled with “the community” demonizing people for merely expressing criticism. I value people’s experiences over a corporation’s spin

In 10 years, and hopefully way sooner, people will see Tim’s reign as a major blunder to the brand and wonder how people came up with so many excuses for blatant arrogance and incompetence

Our current consumers laws go above and beyond (and always have) what the EU guidelines state.

Nice try though.
I'm in Germany and believe it or not, I envy your Brexit.
The next financial crisis will hit the EU really hard.
Now people are blaming the US for raising interest rates, but the EU should have done the same long ago.

But, sorry to say, Theresa May has to go. (Sombody - not me - called her a "Stupid Woman" I hear ;) )

This is indefensible.

I can't believe these units meet their manufacturing tolerances and QC/QA standards.

If the concern in honoring these returns is the potential for being defrauded by unscrupulous customers, why not keep a photo record of every unit's profile as it leaves the factory?

This would be better than making a stupid, ass-covering bluff.

You know what, I need to draw the line here. This iPad Pro cost me $2000, it does exactly the same things as my four year old iPad which only cost me $500 at the time, and I'm too scared of being affected by one of these quality issues like I just went through with my 5K iMac because Apple support is so poor now. I think I will try a souped up windows tablet running macOS inside a VM. It's sad to see such unrealized potential with a product like iPad. Give me floating windows, mouse support, launch hardware that's built properly, and you'll get all of my money Apple!
Yeah, I have loved my iPad Pro 10.5. Use all the time for school. But I may well replace both my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro when the time comes with whatever version Surface Pro is out at that time if this is how Apple continues to do business. This is appalling. It just comes on the shoulders of one screw up after another recently. From the MacBook/Pro butterfly keyboards, the loss of ports, the iPhone 7/7Plus speaker fiasco they refuse to repair, iPad Pro bending, MacBook Pro 15" i9 throttling, Mac Pro release times (or lack thereof), what in the **** is Apple doing with all that money?

Slightly off topic, but thanks. Should have remained as the original trading bloc as it was orignally sold as.

I have a bent iPad Pro and a flickering Vega MacBook Pro (second model, 1st replaced for same problem)
This was in 1 month from apple.

$8000 worth of investment into a company I have always had great things to say about.

Now I have two items both cost a ridiculous premium, I don’t feel good about either.

1 month to ruin a 15 year relationship.

Also, does this mean the iPads have a temperature issue? They are going to bend if they get hot or cold down the track?
Better get some new insulated keyboard folios on sale apple $500 sounds fair.
