The "inertia" of Jobs is slowing for Cook...
As we see competition rise(Microsoft Surface, ChromeOS for education..etc) Apple board members will soon be unhappy with the bean counter...

BananaPad also, Hmmmm ;)

It’s incredible for a company that puts so much emphasis on the design and visual style of their products that they would accept something like this so casually.

I would imagine the next step will be a class-action raised by people who have bent iPads, then Apple will do something about it. It seems these days the only thing that causes Apple to react is a lawsuit.

Apple only responds when negative feedback cannot be contained.

I already mentioned this in the post you quoted:

Obviously Apple is receiving a lot of feedback on the bent iPad issue.

*********************************

Otherwise first customers presenting a defect are simply ignored or labeled as “whiners” or “haters” on forums, with the kind collaboration of the proud Apple “apologists “ (I prefer to call this kind of people “shills”)

I don’t think partially the reason is that some customers are necessarily ignored, but it’s not considered a major issue until Apple likely needs to see a larger quantity of consumers coming forward discussing the issue. Sort of like the battery throttling last year at this time, Apple responded, because the ‘tech media’ was inquiring and they were receiving a lot of feedback, in which they responded to the issue.

Same thing applies here. Customers are coming forward with bent iPads and confused/upset, I’m sure Apple stores are reporting customers returning iPads for this reason, and Apple is starting to see a pattern, which if they don’t respond, it doesn’t look good and it looks like they might be hiding something, but if they do respond, they need to notify the consumer what the outcome is.

What I would like to see/read, is a _real_ (Not a Macrumors member guess) engineer that understands this type of manufacturing, and if they could comment specifically if this seems accurate to what Apple is describing reference the bending in the aluminum, And is it considered ‘Normal.’

I don’t know, I find Apple Pencil, Airpods, A12 Bionic, Liquid Retina with Promotion and Truetone, T2 chip, etc. - quite innovative.

Really? Compared to what? Everybody has features like this nowadays, albeit under a different name. My iPhone XS MAX, from a user point of view it practically identical to any of the other dozen or so iphones I’ve owned in the past. An oblong box with grid icons and a battery lasting about a day.

Apple Pencil - Microsoft stylus is more comfortable to use.

A12 BIONIC - Come on.....it a marketing name for a chip! Every other manufacturer has some funky name for theirs.

Liquid Retina - precisely, what does that actually mean? It’s a marketing buzz word.

No way am I getting one until it’s demonstrably stronger.

Apple is just loosing its way lately.

Dare I say it and I never thought I’d think this but Google and Amazon seem to be innovating now- the google hub thing all the reasonable priced home speakers. Where is Apple - just happy to make very very expensive structurally weak iPads.

It is a defect and they should all be recalled, I smell a class action lawsuit coming. Time for Tim Cook to go. His decision to move away from Intel will be disastrous.

This is not the Apple we all grew to love.
Agree - they have taken the eye off the ball what with all the new campuses and the self driving electric car ( trying to take on Tesla) - they seem to lack the agility to innovate and Have become bogged down in the mud- I watched this documentary on the fall Of Nokia who thought they were invincible and were eaten away from the inside by warring indepertmenrsl politics - have a feeling Apple is going same way.

Same as Jobs (and any other CEO): profit.

Cook also seems to have a personal interest (how sincere he is is something we can only guess) in privacy, human rights and security so that, at least, is a plus. Also, Apple is doing really well financially and, as I keep saying, their latest iPhones and iPads are some of the best devices in Apple history, iMac is also amazing, screens are great, sound team is great, their CPU team is off the charts, services are doing well, Watch is becoming something really good - I'd say Tim is doing his job really well.
Meanwhile, people cant get their MacBooks repaired without paying a crazy sum of money. Or they even get scammed by "Geniuses" that their MacBooks cant get repaired and they need to buy a new one, because profit.
iPhones dont ship with fast chargers, even when this is more or less industry standard these days, because profit.
MacBooks ship with only USB-C ports since apple can make alot more money by selling dongles, because profits.
iPads are cheaply engineered and are bending easily, even though Apple has plenty of experience when it comes to this, yet they dont acknowlede this problem, because profits.
Prices of phones, tablets, PCs have skyrocketed in the last clouple of years to the point where Apple has to now spam people's phones with notifications aboout XR's on sale, because profit.
And let us not forget the intentional slowing down of older iPhones so people would buy a new one sooner, because profit.

Sure, kudos to Tim Cook for making Apple most profitable company in the world, but at what cost and for how much longer? People are getting sick and tired of Apple's practice, and those who still insisit with Apple get but raped by their Geniuses and Apple's shady policies when they bring in their Macbooks for repairs, because they are poorly engineered and keep braking down for most bizare reasons. Apple, in the eyes of customers, is on good road to become what Microsoft was back in the 2000's.

Tim Cook NEEDS to go, he's been steering Apple in to completely wrong direction.

Now all i'm waiting for is a YouTube video by Rene Richie crying to the world how everything that apple does is ok and fine and we should understand that.

I have the 12.9 pro luckily no bending issue but this response is a joke.

So are they saying if people bring them in store they will say no to a replacement? Given what people have said that’s not been the case so if this is normal why are they replacing units with bend in them?

LOL :D This is hilarious! I always laughed when people took the Onion seriously. How the tables have turned!

It’s not “bent.” It’s just happy to see you.
[doublepost=1545304526][/doublepost]I also want to say, I absolutely hate the thinner bezel. The original iPad had room to be held with your thumb not covering part of the display area. But now there is nowhere to hold it. Really pisses me off!

I have to say, there’s only so much of this BS people are willing to take.

I was a die hard Apple fan. Hell, I currently own 3 macs, an iPad Pro, iPhone X and Apple Watch SS, along with numerous accessories. My next phone is going to be android.

I’ve recently had an issue with my AirPods, and Apple want 90% of the cost to repair them, because they were a couple of weeks outside of their warranty. The old Apple wouldn’t have done that.

You can actively tell a difference with their support nowadays, their tone has shifted from helping the customer, to denying all responsibility and trying to extract the most cash possible.

I recall that thread you started, and Apple doesn’t have to acknowledge your product for replacement if you’re outside your warranty. Has Apple made exceptions in the past to assist the customer outside the warranty period? Yes, but it doesn’t mean they have to do so in every situation either. You sound rather conceited, when you don’t know the extent of how many times they have helped customers in situations when they didn’t have to.

[FTR, Apple likely would just replace your AirPods versus repair them. Many times, This is due to the difficultly of the repair.]
