The problem with IE is it was impossible to remove. It was so integrated in that you were required to have it on your computer zero other choice. Mix that with forced default and trying to hide the fact there were alternatives.

I remember back then IE for me served one purpose and it was to download Firefox.
So it served it's purpose - you downloaded Firefox - and never used it again.

You could default to another browser. Problem solved.

Just because it stayed on your computer and was tied to the OS doesnt mean Microsoft weren't somehow using it or parts of it (APIs) to do other tasks. How many lines of legacy code exist in Windows? Lots just sit there because everyone is too scared to remove it. Just. In. Case.

You should look up the history. The other part was how MS killed Netscape and strangled it out with bundling, default browser and making it harder for Netscape to survive to the point it killed them off.

Hence the addition demands and MS had already shown it can not be trusted to be honest.

M$ have always played hardball.
The history of how we had DOS and the games Gates played. But it worked. And dominated.

Netscape sure had a hard run. But they also contributed to it. Many people install Firefox and Chrome and others because them like them better regardless of default. I will use Edge at a pinch and hate it all the time but if the IT department set it, youre stuck.

Exactly the point Apple was making. iPad isn’t a general purpose “computer” like a Mac.

It’s *better* for certain use cases, and much easier to maintain because it runs iOS.

Hope that clears it up for you!

Thanks, you're very smart and helpful! I always thought it was Apple saying the line between the iPad and the traditional computer is becoming blurry, but your education has helped me understand. I think it's cool you are such a big fan of this ad.

Glad to be of service — you’re the one who linked to the ad, btw, so I guess that makes you an even bigger fan 😂

Two whole developers? That’s not a whole lot when there are thousands of developers. We’ve basically got Epic Games and Spotify. Haven’t heard anyone else speak up, so that’s a pretty bold statement to say, “Where as developers want Apple opened up.” I don’t see this clamor from a massive horde. Apple’s walled garden ran for over a decade before Epic Games decided it wanted to freeload. Now Spotify wants to freeload, probably because of Epic. You sound like there are huge numbers demanding change on the iPhone when it’s a grand total of 2. Two isn’t far from zero when there are thousands of developers. I could easily say, almost every iOS developer doesn’t care enough to force Apple to open up.
Again I meant to put not don’t care enough

what are you talking dude? we've know that for a very long time. and it's not just spotify suffering from this problem.
Source? I don’t know who the “we” are that you’re referring to. Nor do I know what “this problem” is.

Just typing words doesn’t make things real, dude!

Not true. I remember removing IE from my computer. The problem was that Windows ME was so attached to IE that it got removed too.

Solved it by installing Linux. I haven't used Windows ever since. 😊

didnt someone say Spotify pushed out 48 releases of their app in year? hardly made it difficult for them :)

So Apple showing many people can now work on an iPad and be productive is still different to a phone being a computer.

Screen real estate on iPads is comparable to laptops.
iOS even have an iPad version that does more for some iPads.
Apple dont offer a Magic Keyboard for the iPad mini and the older chips stops some of the functions they gave us for M1 chipped iPads...

but it still isnt the iOS that's on your phone. :)

Money from ads and subscriptions doesn’t all go to the artists. Spotify keeps the vast majority and a tiny amount goes to the artist.
Source for that claim? AFAIK goes 70 to 80% of Spotify's revenue to the rightsholders, those rightsholders indeed only pay pennies from the earned dollar to the artists

A phone is a consumer device.
A PC is general purpose tool.
That used to be the case, today, smartphones are as good as computers. They have become general purpose tools for many. So telling them really appart is really hard these days.

Ad a gatekeeper, Apple is still not a monopoly.
For the nth time: Apple is not a monopoly but it has a monopoly for distributing apps on iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS. You might like that, you might want to keep it. But it is nevertheless a monopoly. And at some point this monopoly will have consequences which are not good for the users and developers.

The market for word processing might be different than the market for other services and software.

For example, I'm currently very annoyed about the different ways CardDAV is implemented in macOS and iOS, this issue is old and I submitted feedback for it some time ago. But it seems Apple can't be bothered to fix these problems and I can't do anything about it either, I can't install another software for syncing my contacts with my server.

Apple Music. 🎣
Why oh why would you want to run an iOS version when a Mac version exists?
Guess you are just taking the p*ss now... ;)
Go the whole (extreme) hog, boots and all, and claim you want to run iOS Safari on your Mac...
Or iMovie... you like the touch interface and want it on you laptop. How dare Apple not make a touch Mac... hahaha
