I've always had an issue of transferring files (specifically video files) to my HD attached to the router. Every time I do it, this file is use error pops up and only tells you this at the end of a transfer, which sux when it's a 2GB file... I researched the issue and familiar with most recommendations out there but the only thing that works is to FTP to my drive on the network.

Wondering if El Capitan fixes this or any new changes to the SMB protocol?

I'm happy to report that this release, like the latest iOS9 previews, fixes the 802.1x issues connecting to WPA2-Enterprise networks that I've been having (including the über-popular Eduroam network).

That happened to me with one of the betas, too. I just stopped and resumed the download and then it continued at full speed. In my case, this only happens with these OS X betas, everything else downloads fast without hiccups.

It was the first time for me. The download stopped intermittently, and I had to restart the app store to be able to resume. But the speed remained the same. Though thank you for the helpful thoughts. It's appreciated.

Thats the speed between you and your ISP not between you and the Apple CDN node.. if your ISP has an Akamai CDN nice it should be staring you towards that for the extra speed, however if your using 3rd party DNS then you won't get that benefit.

Solved the problem. I was using Google's DNS servers. But switched to my ISP's once I saw your comment, and the download finished in less than 30 seconds. So although it wasn't directed to me, thank you for that. Also, your download speed is insane! You and urbanmacUser in essence blink and files are done, lol. I imagine being on someone else's network is akin to going from broadband to dialup.

So, once the 'green button' bickering has stopped and the UI war has ended, can anyone tell those of us with installation problems if they know of any solutions on how to get the latest beta to install after being told the 'server cannot verify' the installation process?

Cheers!

Hey so I continually tried, and today when i woke up the 4th time download had finished. I restarted and right when the black screen for the update came up i started messing with the mouse using that new 'find my mouse' feature and it works. Sounds like a crazy stupid reason that I got it working, but its the only thing that has changed this time, other then a day later. Give it a shot.

Then you don't have Ziggo ;-)

OT
Why?

Ziggy was out they said, well, not completely true, if you changed your DNS into 8.8.8.8 (google DNS) for instance you would be able to use the internet.
The Domain Name Server was down, Ziggo told us it was a ddos attack, I hardly believe that.

The reason I found out was that my iPhone was working on the very same router from Ziggo while both my Mac and my dad's tablet could not connect to the internet, easy fix, just changed the DNS and I had no further problems.

____

Just installed this beta, still have this strange window effect after dragging this mounted .DMG image to another place, see screenshot.
Last time the top was black, now it's transparent.

Edit: it was transparent but as soon as I take a screenshot (choosing the part of the window by dragging mouse) it turns black as you can see down below.

No, the fact you are the only person here whining about it isn't speculative, it's observable fact. Over 200 comments and you are the only one. Feel free to add some proof to prove your own speculation though. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean everybody else does too. If you want to do something about it, stop whining and pimp the OS out like other people do. If you don't like the finder, try xtrafinder. Colourful side bar and all. See, its not that hard was it?

1. No one's "whining". I'm expressing my (opposing) opinion. By your logic, you are "whining" that I'm whining.

2. "Observable fact". I never posited any. I countered that alluding that I'm the only Apple user who doesn't like Apple's OS designs (despite liking the OS itself) is speculative. That IS a fact. I have OBSERVED it in other threads. I also state that we have no choice in the matter, as Apple doesn't allow you to install earlier OS versions in newer hardware, so you're effectively stuck. Try to keep up with the language and its context.

3. "Just because you don't like something doesn't mean everybody else does too": Right back at you. Case in point: I don't like what you like, which rules out the "everybody" in your statement.

4. "Pimp out the OS like other people do": NOW you've stopped "whining about my whining" and offered up some useful information. I'll look up and try xtrafinder to see if I like it.

See, its not that hard, was it?

Thank you, but this does not help. I already tried it. Finder always gets stuck and I am not sure why. Restarting Finder does not solve the problem, it's just an annoying loop. I guess I just have to wait for the full release.

The following solution might help, keep in mind though that all your Finder settings are reset to defaults.

Delete the following file: Finder.plist which is located in: ~/Library/Preferences

~ = your User folder

* Better copy the file to your desktop first, then delete the original, if it didn't work put it back.
** You have to logout and back in again for it to work, actually relaunching the Finder should also work.

I actually agree with you on design, although I don't hate the new Ui I like the older system design much more.

Xtrafinder only works 100% if you turn off SIP, for instance, sidebar coloured Icons won't work when it is enabled.

Installed OS X El Cap beta 5 last night on my Late 2013 MacBook Pro and now I'm experiencing periodic internet disruption. I'm using an 802.11ac Apple AirPort Extreme set to 5GHz to connect my MacBook Pro which is also equipped with 802.11ac. When my connection goes away on the El Cap b5 MacBook Pro I open up AirPort Utility and it shows a yellow dot by my AirPort Extreme for a few seconds then usually the connection goes back green and my connection to the internet resumes. This happened multiple times last night as I had an iPad continuously streaming video from Hulu on the same connection. I think it's fairly safe to say something is going on with the Wi-Fi drivers in El Cap b5 or possibly the drivers working on 802.11ac 5GHz. This was not a problem for me on El Cap betas 2 through 4 although I did once have it drop from the 5GHz network to the 2.4GHz network on its own. I will try re-adding the adapter and network in Network preferences a little later to see if this clears it up.

This just happened to me too. How widespread is this problem? Has anyone figured out why?

I just fixed it by going to the Safari folder in my personal library and then highlighting the Extension folder (which had a locked symbol on it) using "get info" I changed the permission of groups to "read and write"

I then had to download and install the extensions again - even though they were in the folder - don't know why.

Loving the update, however it still hasn't resolved an issue for me that I noticed within the recovery partition, starting with the prior PB. I've only been able to see it while on Disk Utility in the Recovery Partition...is anyone else seeing under their OS X volume, multiple mounted "untitled" volumes with eject buttons next to them?

I have a dozen of them, they don't unmount by clicking on the eject button

What is your experience using a Retina Macbook 12' with El Capitan. I have to say that under Yosemite the GUI is a joke - 30FPS? Very laggy compared to i.e. MacBook Air.

That's the only reason for me right now not to get one, thanks for your insights.

Nothing in particular. However, what students have been asking for is a Maximize option like Windows has.

I have hearing about the need for this for ten years! It would be nice to tell students "click here and your problem will be resolved."

I doubt there's actually as much demand as you claim, otherwise Apple might have done something about it.

Apple today released the seventh beta of OS X 10.11 El Capitan....

Okay... so that's loads of info about what it includes but can someone in-the-know give use plebs a list of what Apple will be REMOVING with this OS update?
Seems to be the norm these days that OS functionality & flexibility goes backwards with every update (recent gems include pointlessly removing the option to 'open folders in new window' as default and changing the very useful folder/file name colours to near impossible to distinguish dots)
So like I said... anyone know what they're gutting in their push to make the OS more like the iOS?

Apparently, YOU care enough to keep replying.

Any more useful OS X tips to get rid of its ugly?

I can take your silence as a no, so that we don't keep going in circles.

well. looks like mail has gotten worse. its unresponsive to mouse clicks and just quits without actually closing its window.

I have been surprised that nothing has been done about it. A quick google search will prove that it is an issue for many.

Here is a quote from today's MacDailyNews:

"Full screen drives me nuts because you are locked into it then and takes a second or so to go into it and come out of it. Being able to resize windows on every side helps with that now, but I’d still like to see the green button work to fill the screen and not go full screen like it works now. The best option would be to let the user choose how they want to use it and have a pref setting somewhere."
