Certainly not in Denmark. Most people I know have iPhones and I use iMessage with those. If they don't have iPhones iMessage will send them a text which is included for free in all subscriptions here.

I only use WhatsApp for people from other countries where it apparently is popular? I don't really see why - the app is not very aesthetically appeling. In fact its damn ugly.

Stop assuming that because something is like this and this where you live that it is universal.

I live in the US and only use iMessage, have never touched WhatsApp. Stop assuming you know me :) I was basing my opinion on observation travelling abroad, was not hostile at all. Calm down.

It's only a matter of months and whatsapp will do the same as the to be introduced iMessage. Facebook owns whatsapp. Don't get me wrong. I do like iMessage. But if iMessage can't cummunicate with my friends I've to use alternatives. Whatsapp does a lot more then iMessage. You can make group chats and is faster with sending files then iMessage too.

Find new friends ;). It's restricted to the people you know really, because I live in the Netherlands, and there's only one person in my extended family (my own and in-laws) that doesn't own an iPhone. Most of my friends have an iPhone as well. I primarily use iMessage.

How do you unlock now? I use swipe to unlock quite often. I know I can use my fingerprints but I do a lot of working with my hands and get a lot of scrapes and often have bandages.
You have to hard press down on the Home button. When it fails to identify your fingerprint, it brings up the Passcode screen. It's not that much different, but annoying to me as like I said, swiping to unlock is muscle memory after it being this way since the original iPhone.

OK, WhatApp users, use WhatsApp. If you're not going to use iMessage, then so what if Apple is putting effort into making iMessage better? It's not Apple's place to make improvements to WhatsApp.

I'd bet you don't use the Stocks app, either, and Apple puts effort into improving that. I don't use the Health app, and Apple puts effort into that, but you don't see me complaining about it.
Maybe I wrote my reply wrong. I do like iMessage and I'm very happy Apple is updating it and putting effort in it. For me it's just not that usefull. When it would communicate with other messenger apps who are the standard over here (whatsapp) I would use iMessage as my primary messenger app. This is not the case so I'm forced using whatsapp. But luckily for you it is :)

A few changes I've noticed in Beta 5 (iPhone 6S) so far:

- Animations are significantly faster.
  • Returning to the home screen feels almost impossibly fast. So fast that it seems like the return-to-home animation begins before the home button click has completed.
  • Tapping to zoom into folders has also seen a serious speed-up.

- Swipe down from Widgets screen to Search
  • Not sure if this is new as of Beta 5, but I just noticed you can swipe down when in the Widgets screen to activate Spotlight, both in Notifications Center, lock screen, and from the home screen.
- Messages: small tweaks
  • Also not sure if this is new, but you can swipe to cycle between sticker packs/iMessage apps horizontally.
  • When your contact does not have a photo assigned to them: the circle depicting their initials has seen the gradient and outlining notably toned down.

Is predictive emoji back? There was a time during the first few betas where if you typed something like "basketball", it would show a basketball where it normally predicts what you are typing. It has since disappeared but I thought it was a nice feature at the time.
It's never left, for most of us.

You make a very hostile impression to me too :p

Just joking. Peace all :)

iMessage isn´t that popular outside the united states. I think it looks and works great, but I don´t have a single friend/family member/acquaintance that uses imessages instead of whatsapp here in Argentina. Not being able to message with android users kinda defeats the point of a message platform. Bear in mind that standart text messages are still very expensive in a lot of places...
I´m from Argentina, by the way

My argument wasn't that iMessages is more or less popular, just that it isn't a few people using. If you want to text on an iPhone without downloading an app and having your friend download an app, then you use iMessages, which is cross platform messenger, as it uses SMS. You won't get all the cool stuff but it is a cross platform messenger.

Probably not the place to ask this, but how do you get the emoji suggestions? I'm on public beta 3 and it doesn't work no matter what app I am in, including messages

Am I the only one that disables keyboard sounds? Who wants to hear it all day? I hate the fact I am hearing my physical keyboard clatter as I type this on my computer...

I'm already using whatsapp. It's cross platform. I don't know why Apple is putting that much effort in a messaging app only few people use. I'm very happy that they do, don't get me wrong but there are so much other apps that need attention more. Unless they make iMessage cross platform :)
About 200,000 iMessage are sent per second. It's pretty well used by people!

It's not working for some people in some of the betas. It worked for me in the first beta (and maybe the second - I can't remember), and hasn't worked since then. Perhaps a clean install will help? I am installing beta 5 now and will report back whether it fixed the issue for me.

Come on, one of the biggest features of iOS 10 is to "work properly" with their battery case? Come on, Apple isn't even trying to innovate anymore, just fixing **** up. You can't tell me that one of the last 4 patches of iOS 9 couldn't make it work with their own battery case?

Also I am tired of "app changes" being lumped into an OS update. Apps are apps, OS'es are OS'es. ALL Apple's apps should be stand alone and updated through the app store and not shoehorned into the OS kernel. I mean Microsoft was given **** over the years for making their IE and Office and other "built-in" products work tightly with Windows OS kernel, achieving performance levels and stability that 3rd parties couldn't achieve using standard API's and SDK's, why should developers tolerate that you need a whole new iOS version to get improve Photo app or emoji support, neither should you have to wait 5 iOS versions to get the same features and performance Apple's own apps take advantage of today.

Patching/fixing/improving apps is not a reason to release a new OS.
Where is it that working properly with battery cases comes up as one of the biggest iOS 10 features?

How stable is this release? Most apps working on it? Hesitant to try the public beta....

Background animations and bubble effects? Well f**** me over the innovative fireworks Cupertino sells as USP's nowadays.

ICQ had those in the late nineties. And it slowly died. And that was a good thing.

People will need to run it for a little while to see how stable it is.

I believe a lot of people disable the sounds, while a lot of people don't.

I miss ICQ (and for some reason reason can't forget my ICQ number to this day, even though I haven't used it in years and years, and only think about it once in a rare while).

That functionality has been present since the first beta, just having been rebranded as "Play Later"

I'm hoping the lock screen messages bug is fixed (the window would open but wouldn't load message).

Also, I opened a message on the lock screen to reply... and my Gboard showed up. 0_o
The lock screen messages bug has been fixed for me on an iPhone 6s Plus.

I just realized I still remember my ICQ number too! Holy cow!
