As I said in an earlier post, I didn't have the same issue on B5. My local media loaded and Apple Music didn't. Solved by Logging out and logging back in. Just takes a while to load everything again.

Also can confirm Firefox (all versions) crash after load. Google Chrome also requires the holding of the control button to open the first time. Haven't found any other issues yet, seems a lot more stable but again still wouldn't use as a daily driver...
Missed that. Thanks dude(ette)! Got lots of local lossless music I Airplay to a Marantz or Homepod daily...

Ive got an issue. Brand new MacBook 15 (2019). Have had the computer running for about 2 hours and the fans will not stop spinning after new Catalina update. IMDPersistenceAgent in CPU on Activity Monitor is just sucking up all my CPU. When I force stop it , the spinning stops, but it comes right back on. Its annoying

try resetting PRAM restart you computer while holding COMMAND + OPTION + R + P. Let the computer cycle restart a couple of times while holding it, then release and boot normally.

This or a SMC reset.

Pages, Numbers work. MS Word, Excel work.

Firefox doesn't.

I had iMessage (Messages app) hang on trying to close twice. Third time, I left it open for at least 5 minutes on the assumption it was just upset and trying to do something. Seems to have fixed it.

It bothers me that so many people have had issues with this beta although, for the most part, it seems to be on 2018/19 machines. I've sailed through these betas with no installation problems and each beta was better than the one preceding it. The basic OS seems pretty stable. Time Machine back-ups have been slow and there have been issues with coreaudiod and iconserviced going wild, and times, requiring a reboot - killing them didn't make the issue go away.

I wonder if they're going to add some polish to the Music and Apple TV apps. Their respective interfaces seems a bit plain.

This is still downloading. If I have any call-outs, I'll post an update. Good luck to everyone.

EDIT: Install went very well. No issues so far.

- ~~News is still broken for me (it loads but I'm unable to navigate within it)~~
- iCloud Drive bug where it constantly syncs appears to be resolved
- Spotlight constantly running at 100% CPU appears to be resolved

*Update:*

News seems fixed actually. Had to force close it from Activity Monitor and reopen

From past Catalina updates: iMac 5 hours to update, MacBook Pro 5-6 hours to update, however the MacBook (the 12" one) 45 mins...go figure.

Planned obsolescence is a tricky craft. Your wait times are designed purely to make certain no older model slips past the "Paywall" for the new operating system. My Mac Pro could not install hardly any of the Mojave betas until towards the end of the testing, when Apple was sure no new Mac Pro would yet be available. This time, Apple is hell bent on destroying the Original Cheesegrater Nation! :(

went in smoothly for me (MBP15 2018)
Yet to experience a bug of any kind.

It's fixed the persistent problem I had with disk check and permissions - every time I tried to repair my startup disk, I would get a permissions error and be prompted to boot into recovery. That no longer happens.

This looks like a very sold and stable release (after admittedly only a couple of hours)

FML, I was a part of the gang that was stuck on the “estimating time remaining” with beta 4.
It took around 6-7 hours to eventually complete.
Now...
The bar isn’t moving again, and I think it got stuck as well.
WHYYYYY, God, Why me ?

This time, there is no “estimating time remaining” ...just Apple logo and the bar which is stuck at around 30%. (MBP 13” 2018)

My other installs went perfectly smooth, this install to beta 5 has been stuck at the same point for the last hour and half. Not sure what to do. :(

As an update to my previous post (went very well on a 13" 2017 MBP), there were no cosmetic changes to Music or Apple TV. Maybe there won't be - but they are strangely plain looking. I guess I expected a little more polish. Next step: Run Time Machine and see if it runs faster and more smoothly. So far, no more of the jumpy CPU usage while at rest. The apps that were sending iconserviceagentd into a frenzy aren't now.

Apparently no one at apple uses firefox. The quality of these developer previews has been utter crap compared to past versions. Clown college quality.

Did the same thing we’ve done with beta 4, reset PRAM and got to Catalina Island screen with 35 mins remaining now.
Hopefully it will finish during the night.

I too am stuck, currently on 26 minutes remaining.
- started as a black screen, progress bar, "estimating time remaining" with no progress for over an hour
- force shut down
- reboot with resetting NVRAM
- let it continue, picks up where it left off, no progress
- I boot to recovery, takes eternity to even let me see the volumes
- after a number of things, I commit to reinstalling via recovery
- and that step has led me up to now, being stuck at 26 minutes remaining of the installer screen

I can't sign on, and can't update apps. Been going on for 4 betas.

And it's interesting that this is only happening for some people.

I had this issue before B4.

My Fix:

1. I acted like I wanted to sign out of iCloud in the System Preferences by clicking Sign Out, but then canceled when it asked about removing data.
2. I opened up App Store and signed back in through there and it worked. I then had to do it in Music as well.

Hope it works for you!

Recovery is pointless, we tried everything that can be done in Recovery (if you manage to get there lololol) with beta 4. It won’t help. There is literally nothing we can do but wait.
Fkn unreal, how is it even possible ..I don’t get it, What’s wrong with the affected machines, why some people get stuck!?

Sure did waiting for work for others last time? I'm tempted to format the drive, install Mojave, update to Catalina again via profile, and then restore from back up which I think was recently done. But if we think waiting will help, I can wait all day.

The process you are proposing is too much hassle and maybe you will be getting the same issues after that anyway.
Also, Recovery mode doesn’t work as expected in this “Frozen” state so you might not be able to get into it again.
Ultimately, the wait is gonna take anywhere between 5 and 12 hours as the last beta, so enjoy.
Tbh, I have no idea what the flying F is Mac doing in the background, the process bar just won’t move. It’s fairly hot but the fans are not running crazy.
Strange

They fixed the iCloud (some) bugs. One fix, is:

Turn off Optimize Storage, and if you have had bad iCloud Drive (i.e. Desktop+Documents) syncing, just turn off iCloud Drive, not the whole thing, and WIPE/DELETE that part. Then re-add the iCloud Drive, and make sure Optimize Storage is off, and you'll get your SYNC back.. whew!

That isn't working for me unfortunately.
