Apple's OS upgrades have given me enough scars to teach me to wait until the full release and at least the first round of patches. I have work to do on my computer, and that's not working on my computer.

Apple has a history of messing up actual releases based on my experience with iOS. I actually prefer their iOS beta over the public release.

Who said it was delayed? And even if it was delayed because previous betas were not deemed fit for public use, the fact that this one was released suggests that it is.
“Public beta coming in July”

By the way, that wasn’t a criticism of Apple. Just saying with any beta, proceed with caution. A couple days ago, Mail wouldn’t open and I had to restart my computer twice, which didn’t work, then unsync mail with my iCloud account and turn it back on. That did the trick, but people should know what they’re getting themselves into. Also saw a few posts about kernel panics.

Anybody else having problems with Apple Pay after updating to Big Sur? The first notification I get when starting up is that Apple Pay is disabled because somebody else added a card.

Then in the Wallet control panel, my 2 credit cards are still there but each with the message "Card is unavailable to use with Apple Pay - Apple Pay has been disabled because the security settings of this Mac have been modified".

If I try to "Add" a new card, the message is "Apple Pay is already configured on this Mac for another disk. Only one disk can be used with Apple Pay. Do you want to remove the existing cards on this Mac and add new ones?"

I checked the recovery disk and the Secure Boot is still on the "Highest" setting. I'm lost.

FYI...Parellels doesnt work on Big Sur without using a workaround found on the Parallels.com site. I think this is common every year and they are quick to resolve it but wanted to make note of it in case its a deal breaker.

Having Big Sur (betas) being accommodated by both Parallels and VMware Fusion early on would be fantastic, because virtualization provides a great way to safely test without having to jump onto a separate, spare Mac. And we all want lots of testing since we don’t want Big Sur to end up being Catalina II.

I admit I’m tempted considering how problematic Catalina has been. But it could definitely be worse.

Yes, so am I...for I had to go back to the desert from the island today again on my Mac Pro 2013 due to slow rendering on projects with FCPX. Probably Mojave will be the final OS for my Mac Pro 2013. Doubt Apple will work hard to make a discontinued product work with their new OS (though they technically support it for another four or so years from Dec. 2019).

We have about two months before the first release of macOS Big Sur 11.0. It will go bye fast, so will wait for the "big swell" in Sept. :)

Really? All reviews I’ve seen, including my own, are the opposite. Few bugs - pretty smooth sailing. I would wait anyway if I wasn’t a diligent tester, it just makes sense to know what your issues might be, unless you use a separate startup disk or have multiple computers. Besides google is behind the curve again and drive doesn’t work
Not totally accurate. It has been smooth sailing except for the usual apps that don’t work on betas. But if you beta test, you know that. Biggest one for me is google drive, seems they left out a file, come on google!

There were quite a number of people, who's machines were basically bricked by the DB's. It wasn't everyone, but a fair amount and that's such a significant issue that it outweighs you and the handful of reviews you've seen.

What version was that?

10.

Update to the nightly version works.

Big Sur - Working / Not Working Apps

Still no mention of Mail.app?

Does it still exist?

Has it been updated, have old bugs been fixed?
🤔

might be better to look here, there’s been a bit of chat about Mail:

Mine also didn't work after installing the first dev beta, but my error was more simple than yours as it moaned about security settings and nothing else.

Settings / Software Update / Automatically keep blah blah / Install system and security blah blah

That last option needs to be ticked. The rest don't have to be.

Hmmm... I don't see Mail.app mentioned in any of those topics. Do you have a link to that chat you referred to?

It seems I don't have permissions to Edit.

I'm not running the beta btw.
