It is slowly getting better. Smoother than Beta 3 on Safari. Not sure why it is proving to be so difficult though.
Totally and utterly bizarre. The had it in the keynote! Why is this dragging on?

Just release it! They have it on iOS for **** sake!

Anyone know yet if mem leaks are fixed??

safari doing strange things in the google search bar on M1 MacBook Pro , half loading the pages and freezing out the use of the keyboard then types it in like magic when exiting the page

also is there an update for the M1 Mac mini ?

The intel 2020 has updated , the MacBook Pro 13 M1 updated , the Mac mini M1 on beta downloaded the 12gb full download file and stopped at 52mins for couple of hours so removed the 12gb file as could be corrupt and now will not download anything.

120hz is working in safari. It will never run at full 120hz. Just like the iphone, at normal scroll speeds it will run at about 90-100 hz. It doesnt run perfect as sometimes there are small stutters but id say its 95% working. Chrome on the other hand runs perfect at 120 and no stutters

Tap to click is fixed, but the issue regarding the 3/4 finger swipe to switch desktops is not resolved. When I swipe left to go right, it still often bounces back mid-animation and usually ends up going one desktop to the left instead of the right. I have not observed this bug when swiping right aka. switching to the desktop on the left interestingly.

Is safe so install the public beta at this point?

Not true at all chrome is still laggy the same as my old intel i9 the new M1 max with this beta is the exact same speed as macOS 12.0.1 it’s not smooth scrolling like the iPhone or iPad it’s still 60hz safari hasn’t added it, the keynote was lies they showed it butter smooth scrolling when it’s not

I have 12.0 on 16” MBP M1 Max. Tap to click makes my blood pressure go through the roof at least ten times a day. Very difficult when editing text, completely unbearable when doing anything graphical. Clicks about 50 percent of time, jumps at double-tap-and-keep-to-drag. Dragging anything on the screen is a nightmare.
That sucks. Haven't experienced it.

Thanks for letting us know about the 3/4 finger swipe to switch desktop animation not being resolved in beta 4. I downgraded from macOS 12.1 beta 3 about a week ago to macOS 12.1 beta 1 because of that exact problem that you described. Thus far, there have not been any issues with the 3/4 finger swipe animation on 12.1 beta 1. I plan on staying on this beta until the swipe animation has been fixed.

No its not... chrome runs perfect at 120hz. Safari isnt 60hz. Want to test it? Turn on low battery mode and ull see the difference. Either you arent on beta and you're just assuming its not working or somethings wrong with your macbook. The only bug with this beta is if your macbook goes idle or you close the lid it reverts the refresh rate down to 60. You can fix this by restarting laptop or going into display and toggling on 60hz and switching back to promotion with all browsers closed.

I guess this makes the article from an hour or so ago obsolete…
I hope tap to click is fixed, I will download the public beta ASAP, but if that is not fixed, I’m gonna roll back to Big Sur.
Been on the public beta since July but this bug introduced recently has been driving me nuts
tap to click seems to be fixed indeed, now I have to break the habit of actually clicking that I had to develop over the past few weeks :cool:

Honestly, Pro motion still not corrected in browsers AND the bug where if your screen goes to sleep or you close the lid and re-open the scrolling is legit choppier until you go to display and turn to 60hz then back to pro motion to reset.

Its just over all dissapointing and frustrating when I know its software based. How hard can it be to get a build with it working properly.........

I don't give ten craps about SharePlay. Fix the bugs that should've been fixed prior to launch. Up the quality control. Stop releasing major new macOS releases on an annual schedule. Make an OS that doesn't have serious bugs in it at launch. Release it when it is ready for things like SharePlay AND is stable enough to reduce the number of articles that (get written about it that) apologists deem to be clickbait.

No one using a Mac is so impatient for a new version of macOS that they can't wait for months longer for it to be more polished and stable, especially when they release on an annual schedule.

macOS 12.1 beta 4 build 21C5045a

Happy to report that the charging issue seems to be fixed.

On a laptop that is shut down and the lid is closed (admire the glory of the 2021 MacBook Pro for a few seconds, will you?)

1. Connect MagSafe and switch it on
2. Amber blinks once and then stays constant
3. Sound only comes once.

Another thing:
4. While in this state, when you lift the lid to start the laptop, the charging pauses for a moment it seems, because the amber blinks once and then resumes.

I like this. All in all, it seems fixed. I will now stop charging while working and charge it during shut off to know if the charging works as expected or is that something that is still not working.

Ah, makes me sooooo glad I'm running macOS 11.6 (Big Sur) instead of that buggy ol' Montery! My M1 Mac Mini isn't making me hate it, with all the RAM sappage and trackpad issues and all whatnot! That'll teach ya to trust Apple's latest OS's! ? Of course, if NOBODY ever downloaded their latest OS, would they either NOT fix any bugs that it had, not KNOW there were any bugs in it, or simply... ugh... I don't want to think about this anymore... I'll just enjoy Big Sur until Apple gets their act together.

Your personal opinion aside, I am disagreeing with you on the issues you mention (except for memory leaks that I cannot say about) since they are now fixed as in beta 4 (the thread you are replying in).

Read again: Trackpad and MagSafe charging issues are fixed. About memory leaks, I have not seen any but others have, so they may report if that's fixed for them.

Yes, most of the times, unless there is some serious, serious issue, Apple's beta is very good. Does not make you nervous. To each his own.

Not everyone has the possibilty to run Big Sur. New Macbook Pros come with Monterey and cannot be downgraded so we have to live with it and thus are very interested in these betas.

Why is this? More conservative on battery?

Which beta added this? I can’t see it in beta 2?

I know it’s hard to prove a negative but anyone seen mem leaks yet?

No no, we are mere beta testers for the smarter ones happy with their computers seeing no need to upgrade, but happier to live vicariously through our purchases and take delight in our plight, as the case may be.

New MacBook Pro 2021 Purchase:
1. Oh wow what a monster machine!
2. Fat as my butt, tho! (but I will only compare it to the 2019 MacBook Pro which, ironically, was thicker than this by a whisker, but hey, me and facts do not go well together)
3. You don't need 32 GB, you bought 64? Whoa! 16 was sufficient, smart Alec! (I know more than you what will make you happy, cos I'm God)
4. I am jealous and I secretly wish I could go and buy the machine (but I am not for whatever reasons)

New MacBook Pro Software/ Hardware Issues
1. Bwahahahaha you a beta tester for us!
2. That's what you get for buying the latest and greatest (we will never ask or understand your reasons for buying but we will only call you a fool for buying it)
2. Me smarter than you to wait for third revision to this (translation: I do not need the power of this machine)
3. New OS is bull and I'm never upgrading from whatever I am on at the moment because it is working for me. Oh, by the way, SL rocks! (well, yeah, we would not upgrade too if we had a choice, but who's asking? Also, we would love to be on SL too for some aspects, you know? But we are happy to be on the newer one with more features, unlike you.)

I'm quite happy with Monterey 12.0.1 and honestly it is much better on M1 Macs than last version of Big Sur. However, based on what I read of bugs in 12.1 betas, I am *not* tempted to jump on public betas anytime soon even though testing SharePlay would be interesting.
