This beta has given me quite a few problems, mostly with third-party system extensions. It would be nice if this update un-broke some of that.

If they were broken because of SIP, you have to wait for the third party companies to update it to accommodate SIP limitations. Apple can't fix them.

You can try to work around it by disabling SIP to confirm it would work without it. If it does, contact the company to let them know about SIP.

those who tested it coming from a laggy Yosemite: does this fix the UI/slow-downs issues?

It was already clear from the first beta that this has been improved by a large factor on various Macs. The lag cannot be fixed because of how the scaling works and how much resources it eats up on the GPU. However, it can be continuously improved by reducing the amount of work it needs to do. Apple changed Mission Control to do less blurring and by doing less work, Mission Control is now almost always smooth, even on retina Macbook.

Along with a new systemwide font, El Capitan includes a revamped Mission Control feature, a new Split View feature for using two full-screen apps at once, ...
OK I'm not clear on something. I thought Split View was an iOS feature. I mean I've been able to run two apps side by side on my Mac for years. What am I missing?

It's for full screen apps. You can run apps aside each other on regular desktops but when the app is in full screen mode, you can only run one app prior to El Cap.

I suspect Apple is working on universal concepts to make both iOS and OS X more consistent, especially as iOS becomes more and more powerful over time.

This is Developer Preview! Not Public Beta.
People who have PB will not see it.

I ask because I am an iOS 9 public beta tester (only) as well as an El Cap public beta tester and I, as well as others, have just received the iOS 9 Beta 4 update OTA.

I'm a public beta tester of both, and neither new update is showing for me.
Are you sure you can update to iOS beta 4?

iOS???
This is El Capitan! :)

Either way - Public Betas are on different rolls than Develop Previews.
iOS I have had since Beta 1 the build - you gotta be on Developer Build Roll to get these updates.
If you got the Public Beta - you have to wait until the new Public Beta Roll is released.

This Applies on the same way to the El Capitan Releases.

Think of these as 2 different things.

Developer Previews receive updates more frequently.

Not correct in respect of iOS on today's update at least.

Show me where Apple have said PBs and Devs cannot receive the same update at the same times.

I understand!
That's why I questioned that they guy I quoted was actually able to update to the new iOS beta.

Yes I am sure. New build is 13A4305g.
Interesting. Not showing for me.

Has anyone tested mail yet? The previous betas have been more or less unusable for me because of all the issues with Mail

Guys, did you mention in this update Apple added version 1.0.... See the screenshot. I think there was no such versions on previous bettas

I did not say that my friend. :)
I said that they come on different Update Rolls.

But it's also possible that I am mistaken regarding iOS.

1. App launches seems a bit snappier than usual.
2. Notes appeared without any notes and it had to downloaded again from iCloud, which took a few seconds. I'm guessing they changed the database or something. UI issues are now fixed, I had a lot of UI issues but it's now solid.

Yeah, they are SIP related, although I don't know if the developers will be able to get around the SIP limitations as they currently exist. The biggest issue for me is writing to NTFS drives. If SIP prevents third parties from accessing this level, Apple had better integrate it or I'll be one of those "I can't move the the latest OS" guys.

I think you're right. But I remember version numbers like that on at least some of the Yosemite betas.

Edit: Looking back at the "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days", version numbers are not presented in the title of the updates, but are present in the lower left corner on each update.
