People are dumb. People are ignorant. People like to blame other people even though its not their fault. People like to attack the big guy. People are stupid. People are people.

Well... we don't know where the bug is... Could be in El Capitan, could be in After Effects. We just don't ****ing know. There is not point in attacking or defending any of them. Also, they're ****ing corporations, they don't really need your help, just your money.

iOS 9 Beta 4 running particularly bad on my iPad mini 2 -- ironically earlier beta versions were much smoother. Safari is especially laggy and slow to keep up with touches. Hope next build improves performance.
If that's the same as public beta 2 then I agree. Apps crash, features don't work, the News app works about 25% of the time, etc. Anxious for the next update.

Installed without any hassle, over 1 GB and the only difference I notice is the General icon. It's different, sure, but I didn't know one icon takes over 1 GB nowadays ;) Hope the glitchy audio got repaired, if that works, I might take a plunge and install it as my main system. (After backing everything up twice of course.)

Does anyone have HQ links to the new wallpapers? I'd love to get the original full quality version of this one!

You can switch between public beta and developer beta for OS X as they are released.

App Store looks for updates (public beta or developer beta) based on the set catalog url.

Not if you aren't a dev. I'm only on PB and never see DP builds when they are released a day or two before the PB. (I assume because builds are a digit or letter different and certain builds can only see certain new builds.)

This isn't the case on iOS. For iOS because they are identical build numbers even not having a dev account someone on PB can simply remove the profile and OTA will show you the newest DP because the build is the same number and it just "thinks" you're also a dev, when you're not. (This happened when people were on PB 1 and DP 4 came out, people were able to "essentially" get PB 2 a day early by removing the public beta profile.)

Seems to me that because OS X doesn't have a profile for public beta, they just use slightly different build tags (even though they are the same) so that doesn't happen.

I am on the public beta.

In OS X, through Terminal: softwareupdate —set-catalog you can switch between public beta, developer preview, or release tracks by inputing the correct url (don't think I can post it here).

So when you are on the public beta, you don't see developer betas while on developer betas you don't see public betas. iOS uses profiles while OS X uses catalogs.

Ahhhh, ok. :) Thanks for clearing it up for me.

While I am very pleased with Apple for releasing new Developer Previews so frequently, very few of the many bugs I've reported (some as far back as from Yosemite developer previews) are actually getting fixed. Often they get marked as "duplicate bugs" (which means "hey we already know about this one") but are still there to this day.

that said the font seems to have further improved in the last few DPs - it's very very decent now in non-Retina. I much prefer it to Helvetica Neue.

I am experiencing something strange. I finished the update and the build number is 15A243d even though 9t0Mac says it is 15A244d. But more importantly the PB 4 is not showing on my app store update history. The last one is from 30th July, version 3. No record of version 4 which makes me think something went wrong. Any ideas?

exact same thing is happening to me. i thought i was going crazy.

..finder sidebar is still too narrow. It's not a big thing, but it shouldn't take long to fix that, too...

Too thin and then too thick... Columns in list view keep moving about also... reminds me of Mavericks which also had this issue... it's driving me INSANE!!! Thank God it's on a test machine and one that I can turn off, when my OCD starts to scream!

1.43GB on Retina MBP 15. Must say, I'm already noticing massive performance improvements over Yosemite - I just hope they've finally done something about after effects in this release!
same machine here, but I got
• a few gfx glitches at login (i.e. login window at lower resolution) and
• menubar invisible after login
• the bluetooth-blackouts (only when WiFi activated)
• ...

The way it should be.
Maybe some of us like action when installing an OS? I suppose there's always a Windows installation for that. I've had so many problems in the past.
So, at this point why does Apple even bother having separate Developer Previews and Public Betas?
If I had to guess, to avoid as many issues as possible with people installing a beta on their main devices and complaining about bugs, thinking a beta should work perfectly... The public beta always comes out after a few DPs have been released. It's likely done to avoid the early showstoppers from messing up people's computers.

I like how the icon change matches the change in wallpaper colour scheme. Yosemite's wallpapers had orangy-pink theme while El Capitan wallpapers are blue-green.

Well this is what I thought had caused the change. But El Capitan's 'official' wallpaper is a bit green, but not as vibrant a green as the new 'General' icon would suggest. The old icon matched Yosemite's 'official' wallpaper pretty well.

Edit: Also just noticed they've added a new wallpaper too. But that seems to have been widely reported already.
