So you ingnore all warnings and common sense and put your computer at risk, but still feel you have a right to complain when you do such idiotic things?

So would you cut your brake lines on your car then complain to the car maker when you crash into a tree? Your logic is totally twisted.

You better hope nothing serious happens when you take dumb risks. Then again I bet you'd come here to complain about it too.

Before you type so much you shouldn't jump to conclusions about someone you don't know and know so little about their computer system too. For your information I not only have multiple back ups of El Capitan, but also of Yosemite. Don't assume everyone out there is an idiot just because some apps crashed. I'm ignoring you.

Hell the last two days I've bumped into a few nasty characters on this forum so I'm logging out for a while. I'm not dealing with people's first world problems.

Anyone else have consistent trouble getting the beta updates installed? I installed the public beta of El Capitan off of a USB drive. Every public beta update beta 2, beta 3, and beta 4 now seems to stall or freeze. It says "Installing Software Update: About 18 minutes" and then sits there even if I leave it on and alone for hours or even over night.

I have to hold the power button in to force a shutdown, restart the computer, reopen MAS, and restart the install. Looks like Beta 4 has again stalled, even after are reboot and restart of the beta install.

I had this problem with previous upgrades of final versions, and on some Yosemite betas, but the El Capitan betas installed okay so far. From previous experience I can say that forced restarts made the installations work without causing other problems, it was just an annoying inconvenience.

A small problem in beta 3 fixed in beta 4: Could not remove folders from the sidebar occasionally in Beta 3. In Beta 4, it looks like the same bug is taking place but after a few seconds the folder disappears.

Some software compatibility that people haven't mentioned, worth listing for other people thinking of upgrading: Crashplan, which didn't work at all in the Yosemite betas, works great with El Cap. Soundflower (allows you to control volume levels over DisplayPort/HDMI, among other things), however, is completely broken with no workaround available that I have found.

Meh - updated to latest public beta on my iMac via App Store and got kernel panic on reboot. This after flawless installs of all previous public beta releases. Safe mode startup is not working. Disk Utility tells me the drive needs to be repaired but cannot be repaired. Time to erase the drive and restore from my Time Machine backup. Going back to Yosemite, I can wait until El Capitan releases later this year to play with it.

I decided to finally jump into the PBs. When I tried to though it told me that my code had already been redeemed. anyone know what to do about this?

Check your purchases in MAS. Maybe you redeemed in the past and forgot. You should see if available to download there

when I try to download the update it stalls out at 111MB and won't download anymore :-/ anyone know how to fix this? I've tried restarting to no avail

4th build already? Isn't that more than the Yosemite received? Should we take this as a sign that they are going to release it soon or that they just have a decided to shorten each build time.

Yosemite got 6 public betas, 8 developer previews and 3 gold masters before public release. And even the public release was a different build to any of the gold masters.

So I think there's going to be quite a few more builds yet for el capitan before public release.

Agree. Also after the Yosemite WiFi fiasco, Apple might be more careful about polishing the release out before the Gold Master / Release versions so it doesn't damage its reputation again like last year.

OK, I think by now I can officially confirm USB DAC glitching is gone. It's been a few hours since I did the update and sound works perfectly.
Well, I'm using NuForce Icon HDP DAC over USB on my late 2011 MBP and it's not playing any sound + while changing the volume it reappears under System Preferences / Sound. Of course I'm running latest beta (15A244d).

I was still not having any luck, having started the install of PB4 update, then leaving to go to a movie with friends. Restarted it for a third time and finally it decided to proceed with the complete install of the update.

I "zapped" the PRAM, too. However, I figure that's the equivalent of "Empty your temp files and cookies" for solving internet problems. Always used as an attempted cure all, but only actually helpful or useful in a very narrow range situations. Regardless, the PB4 patch did install after it.

I've had them too since beta 2, crashes after every 5 mins of use :(
Has the problem worsened in this beta?

Yes, I think its worse in beta 4. Just little bit amazing that they are not testing better agains their own app. Using the mouse to edit clips - it crashes quite soon... Tested DaVinci Resolve 12 beta - actually works quite nice - much more snappy then earlier - and no crashes so far. No problem in other app like : Ligthroom, Photoshop, Logic X etc.

1.43GB on Retina MBP 15. Must say, I'm already noticing massive performance improvements over Yosemite - I just hope they've finally done something about after effects in this release!

Are you kidding me? i must be the unlucky one. I've been running the El Cap public Beta since build one and apart from some cosmetic issues, the performance has been amazing!

However since updating to Beta four last night i'm getting constant Rainbow wheel for simple stuff like full screen app switching and typing. I've even had it like 27 times through typing this comment!

Please fix Apple, the Beta's are meant to get better through each build... but for me this is a major step back!

Dude me too, i posted a comment just before! glad i'm not the only one. it seems to be more basic process like switching full screen apps and typing (especially when it's at a decent pace!)

Check Activity Monitor for any laggy processes. Maybe try a restart. A restart seems to 'fix'/suppress most of the bugs so far in El Capitan (Apple is supposed to fix the bugs of course but this is well, a beta anyway.)

Performance for me has been great since PB1. Bugs aside animations/transitions have been really smooth.

Bugs wise I had weird blank-Space-on-fullscreen-exit bugs, Finder sidebar width bug, Desktop-Space swipe transition bug, iCloud login bugs etc on earlier betas but on the current beta they all seem to have been fixed.

PB4 No issues. Noticed a new El Capitan background picture included - same mountain at night - blue. Seems faster and snappier than PB3. FYI, I'm sure most people have noticed by default, Safari does not show the full website link / extension - only for example - helpme.com instead of helpme.com/default.html. To see the full web link you need to enable it in Safari / Preferences / Advanced and tick "Show Full Website Address".

Also the General icon in System Preferences has changed its look as well. Safari seems snappier with every release, and it helps to have Ad Block Plus installed :) BTW all languages including English are installed by default, so I use a free App called Monolingual to remove all non english languages from the whole system - 1.7GB freed. Has to be run after every OS update. It also allows removal of old architectural support for PowerMac G4 etc as well.

I've had a persistent problem with my older MacBook not properly installing PB 2.. Apple App Store shows 8 versions of PB 2 installed with a ninth one pending. Does anyone know what's up with that, or have any of you experienced this issue with El Cap?
