An interesting thing happened on iPad 4.3

Updating all apps also downloaded and installed apps that I had purchased months ago and no longer had on the ipad. It presented warnings that I was these apps were purchased but never downloaded.

I wonder if a purchased apps screen (like the Mac App Store) is on its way.

I decided to skip iP4, and my 3G is 2 yrs 6 months old. But I still feel a bit like a victim of Apple using dated hardware on the 3G.

Don't be a victim. Before the iPhone what you walked out of the phone store with on day one was the phone you had until you decided to do a hardware upgrade a few years later. There was no way to upgrade the software or the hardware without tossing the whole phone. I'd typically go five to seven years with the same cell phone and never give it a thought.

Your 3G iPhone still does everything you bought it for, and maybe even more.

Engadget has posted a video showing the new multi-touch gestures for the iPad on the iOS beta. It does show, however, that there can be problems with Apple's implementation of multitasking, since there can be a long delay in the display update when you bring a suspended app back to a running state. This could be an issue that is made worse given the iPad's paltry 256MB of DRAM since it can only buffer a limited amount of content. Here is the link (sorry if this has been posted before, it seems to be a Flash video, so this won't work directly for your iOS devices):

For those unable to access the multitasking gestures on their iPad, ensure it's marked as a development device in Xcode. You will need to do this each time you update, even if you restore from a backup.

Where does the Facetime icon show up after updating?

It'll only appear on the latest iPod touch.

Along with that, all of the apps listed with a "redownload" button before swapping to an "installed" button... weird. Trying to get a screenshot.

Why can't I see the setting for the new gestures on my iPad? Engadget has them but they'e not in my general settings. What am I doing wrong?

"Use For Development" in Xcode.

It'd be safe to assume this will be an area iPad 2 will excel in. For switching between two or three apps - providing they're already open - there is no any lag. The video doesn't show the very cool control you have over the pinch to home gesture, which can be performed slowly and even reversed midway. The keys on the keyboard also now look less flat (although this may be a 4.2 change I neglected to notice).

Video can be watched on iOS, by the way.

They are just listed in the multitasking list, they are not running. Think of that list as recently run applications, that is all it really is.

This isn't strictly true. Sometimes, this is the case, sometimes, the apps really are running in the background. And sometimes killing them in the multitasking list doesn't really kill them (mostly this is true for Apple's apps like Mail, but also true for some third party apps that have been updated for iOS4.).

This is a pretty weird thing Apple did. You can force quit an app while it is running, hold down power until the power off slider appears, then hold down home until the app quits... but oddly, this doesn't remove the app from the multitasking list (you still have to hold down on an icon in that list to get it to jiggle and show the minus sign, and press the minus sign).

Also, rebooting doesn't remove apps from the multitask list (but I assume after reboot they are no longer running, just listed there as recently used).

Apps, apparently, quit on their own when not used for a while.

When I first started with it, I thought the multitask list was like that function of sbsettings that allows you to kill apps... but it isn't at all. It's weird.

You're trying to tell a company that charges the equivalent of $1,300/megabyte for SMS's (also data) that it makes no sense to charge money for tethering or hotspot... It makes perfect sense if you have no competition and want to leech as much money out of the customers as possible... Maybe it'll change with Verizon. Maybe not...

It's double dipping. I already paid for the data... why am I being charged again... every month... for tethering (or hotspotting) that data? IIRC from Grisham's novel, The Firm, over billing is a crime. And when they mailed your bill to you... they commit mail fraud, each offense punishable up to 5 years, consecutively.

?

Again, why are there 10 negative ratings on a seed for a software update? Too many haters

It's like those Youtube videos that don't seem to be ratable that have negative ratings for no reason.

Did anyones update on the iPad fail? I've tried several times with my iPad and each time it fails on the update.

AirPlaying videos from camera roll -- 'bout time. Seems wonky though; after playing one video from my IP4 to the ATV the ATV goes back to main menu & I can't AirPlay another video to it. Perhaps the ATV needs the new beta as well? It's running the latest GA release.

Weird, Mine showed the hotspot option, I selected it and it showed where i could add a passwordD The phone locked and I reset it, now there is no hotspot option at all

Hotspot on Fido

Hotspot work well on my iPhone.

I am with Fido in Canada. I am paying for 6 G so I guess I can use it as I please. :)

Except that right now the Apple TV doesn't support apps/games. The iPad does. So for now that means developers can use the iPad game/console, iPhone controller model until the Apple TV can be the console and the iPhone or iPad the controller. And honestly an iPhone will probably be better as a controller. Remember, in either situation the device would be a controller, and not running the actual app. The problem with the Angry Birds situation is that in streaming the entire App, you have lag.

Maybe I need to go browse the ATV2 section, but how is this device planning on running apps without a hard drive??? Streaming them from my Mac Mini which currently runs my iTunes instance on my network???

Sounds like a mess waiting to happen, especially if you do not have everything hard wired. And don't get me started on the lack of Gig-E on a device designed to stream video...

So I done the typical an updated without having my UDID registered, I'm in the process of getting it regisitered so I'm not here to bleat on about that.

My question is, when I become validated, can i then go back to 4.2 or will it only sit at 4.3? I don't use my iPad that much outside of browsing to it's not that big of a problem but would like to know from anyone who is more familiar.

Thanks

It has 8GB of built in flash memory... It's just not accessible yet. Some is being used for caching streamed content, but presumably you don't need 8GB for that.
