To be clear for those on windows:
YOU CANNOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
You will have a functioning phone with this GM however, you will not be able to restore from backup or use itunes in any fashion until 11.1 is released.
You will have to set your phone up as new when going to GM through the phone itself, rather than through iTunes.

What about iCloud? I would hate to restore with iCloud at a time like this where Apple's servers are going to be flooded, but I'd rather that than to start from scratch.

because that guy wants to feel special and elite, it's a character flaw shared by many on these forums.

Yeap. I can understand their stance on betas, but a GM SHOULD be 100% safe and ready for the masses. Hope the devs spend their time updating their apps rather than lecturing the countless hoards that are looking for a DL link.

I'd imagine restore backup from iCloud should work fine, shouldn't it?

there really are some elitist tards around here. Big effing deal if users want to install and try out software early. why does this bother you all?

Apple targets the iOS beta to iOS DEVELOPERS, not enterprise USERS. Where did you get that idea from?

Apple's own documentation. Take a look around the iOS Developer Site. A lot of companies will be using software developed by third party developers and they will want to test those B2B apps on the pre-release version of iOS.

Apple used to seed the release as a .zip for Windows users and has released Windows iTunes beta versions in the past as well (since the move to iCloud backup, the need for iTunes betas has dwindled on both Windows and Mac OS). There would be no reason for either of those if it was strictly for Mac users only.

All developers must use Mac OS X to tether their phone to develop software, which is who the iOS betas are targeted for. If you've got a Windows PC as well, great. But, you need the MAC OS X box to sync for betas.

Well, I think we've proven otherwise. It installs fine with the latest iTunes release for Windows, as did all of the previous betas.

I just "Updated" my iOS 7 beta device to the GM using iTunes (production, not beta) with no issues. I was not offered the option to download iWork for free.

Yes, I'm a paid developer, and no, I won't give you a link.

we need more info on that, where you able to get your backup on GM? or start fresh?

I would assume an iCloud backup would work.

This is just aimed towards windows users and iTunes backing up/activation/etc. Nothing else. Your phone will work fine but will not be able to use itunes until new version is released. I don't use iCloud so I cant say 100% but I don't know why it wouldnt.

n00b question.. Do you HAVE to restore to GM, or can you just download as an update like with the beta updates?

You can update but not OTA, you have to download the full file and can do an alt-update to specify the IPSW file as the update file to avoid doing a restore but it's not particularly recommended

I don't recall how I installed the iOS 6 GM, but you may be able to hold down the Option key and click "Check For Update" in iTunes and then select the IPSW you want to use. I usually restore - everything is backed up in iCloud or on my Mac, and I can always load the music back on when I have some time.

Just dropped it onto my iPad Mini.

Restored from my iOS 6 iCloud backup with no problems.

Last time I used the iOS 7 beta (think it was number 3) it drained my battery in 2 hours. Fingers crossed that's all sorted now.
