So I just bought a brand new car and the dealer comes up to me and say, "Oh by the way the manufacturer is still working on the design for the break lights, so they aren't installed yet. But they're coming soon." I just smile and say, "Oh don't worry I still have all the rest of the car to play with."
I WANT MY WHOLE CAR!!

No one was forcing you to buy the car :rolleyes:
(or phone in this case)

1password

There are two things I'd REALLY like to see:

* Mobile Safari to save usernames+passwords for websites, I hate having to enter those each and every time

* An option in Maps to toggle between car navigation and pedestrian navigation, like you can do in the Google Maps web app now. It would be perfect to get directions to go somewhere BY FOOT with the iPhone in my hand :)

I am not sure about #2 but as far as saving usernames/passwords you should check out 1password. I LOVE it.

Push notifications;
Copy&Paste;
Bluetooth file-transfer;
MMS;
TbT GPS!

Release that on 2.2 and you'll have a lot of happy customers, Apple!

I'm sure those happy customers will come up with a pack of bs to whine about and how it's threatening your social life because it doesn't currently support X, Y, or Z.

I thought this was funny

I'm not happy about the lack of Firewire 400 port and DVI port. This means more adapters to lug around. I'd rather have a millimeter or two larger case and less peripherals. That's why I'm not buying a MacBook Air! Hello, Apple? What are you thinking?!

Immediately following a post about how apple spends too much time and energy on the iphone and not enough on macs (which I agree with). THIS is the solution.... simply talk about macs on every posting about iphones.

New Features to come

I sure hope that in 2.2 there are actually improvements and brand new features finally like push, copy and paste and maybe even video camera capabilities that all basic cheap phones have but not the most advanced phone on the market...the iPhone 3G

Hmmm.

The site name is "MacRumors", but most of the stories seem to be about telephones and music players and Microsoft ads.

The directors need to re-examine their focus. Too much crap about phones, IMO.

Keep the other stuff in the side panels where it belongs - get rid of the Igadget crap.

You want them to change their names to AppleRumors then?

copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste copy & paste....

THAT is why Apple should never develop copy and paste for the iPhone.

Just kidding.:D

Lousy analogy.

It would work if you had just bought a new car that was radically different in design from previous cars and had only been out for a little over a year. Oh, and if cars themselves had only been around for a couple decades.

Comparing a relatively revolutionary product like the iPhone in a relatively young market like cell phones, to the auto market that has been around for ages is meaningless.

Why are you demanding perfection from this brand new analogy? :D

Bug fixes on Slow Response on iPhone

Here's my next great feature in 2.2
1. Apple Fix the sluggish response time and launching time of the camera
Shiiiiit takes 1/2 minute sometimes to open the camera.
Average is between 5-10 seconds

2. SMS is sluggish too when I launch it, maybe it's the indexing of SMSes.
3. SMS forwarding please
4. Video Please, why Apple...must be a conspiracy here. ****!
5. Sluggish launch for iPhone Settings.
6. Fix the Date & Time bug if no country is specify first.
Sloppy programming Apple. Must be 3rd country programmers!

That's all for now! Apple sloppy on the job!...Jobs!

It's amazing that the iPhone platform is slightly over a year old at this point and people are still screaming about every little feature they don't have as if it's been decades. Apple just brought a ton of new features to the iPhone 3G and people and still complaining about the little things.

In Apple's defense, implementing copy and paste is not nearly as easy as it sounds. In OS X, the clipboard is fairly complex and can hold multiple versions of a given thing once copied to it. If you, for example, highlight a file in the Finder and copy it and then try to paste that in to TextEdit or BBEdit or another Finder location, different things happen. Did you ever consider that or how it works? In TextEdit, you might get the contents of the file. In another Finder window, you get a copy of the file. In BBEdit, you get the name of the file.

...

Now, scale that down to a phone and consider some of the issues that need to be figured out in an environment like the iPhone's. I don't think Apple's stalling or playing games when they say it's going to take some time to implement and I doubt if the UI is the biggest hurdle (which everyone seems overly focused on.) There's a lot to sort out, and if it's done wrong, it's going to cause more headaches than not having that feature at all.

And BTW, if you want to see copy and paste done wrong, play around with Windows for a while. Once you've experienced the occasional annoyances caused by badly implemented copy and paste features, you won't keep screaming for Apple to hurry up and do it right now. Calm down and let them do it right.

I think you are overthinking the copy and paste functionality that most people want. You can't apply the desktop version of copy and paste to the phone. The use is quite different, partly due to the fact that you are not manipulating a lot of files.

In general people want to copy and paste text be it from a text message, email, contact etc. Now if apple implemented a simple to do copy and paste function for text then a lot of people would be happy. Just look at the incoming data onto the phone that people will want to use/manipulate SMS, email, webpages, urls, photos.

If my phone from over 2 years ago could do this then I am sure the iPhone could

First, do you really want a dumbed down copy and paste?

Secondly, you make it sound simple by citing an example that is simple. What if you're pasting that text into a location that doesn't typically accept text? Do you want the iPhone to ignore you or do you want it to be smart enough to adapt? What if you're trying to paste graphic data into an email? Are you just out of luck because that's not text?

It is easy enough for the phone to deny the paste function and alert the user that there is no available place to paste the data.

Copying graphical data is not so much needed but if in this example I am sure copy and paste could be used and the phone could quite easily work this out.

Calm down and let them do it right.

But as you said the phone has been out for 1 3/4 years and the software was in development long long before then surely that is plenty of time to do it right[/] especially as it is something that should've been there in the beginning.

SAP use the fact that the iPhone doesn't have copy and paste in their presentations.

I really hope this fixes the bug with the iPod on my iPhone. Every now and then it just randomly stops playing.

Considering they both have pretty much the same screen, processor and architecture (with a few small differences), they will update the OS from time to time. However, at some point, I'm sure they'll stop supporting the 1st generation—but that's probably not too near in the future.

Yeah I wonder when that will be. Right now I'm happy that they've offered all of the feature updates to gen 1 owners because I own one. With the iPod I remember feeling ripped because the owners of different generations had seperate updates. It was really confusing! Also small features got left out of the 1st gen iPods for no reason! Editable notes... the games... why did 2nd gen people get them?

The touch is different, and I hope this represents a change of culture. The 1st gen iPod came with no apps and no games, it was basically just for music, and Safari was for logging into wireless networks requiring passwords. Now... we have a great range of apps. Joy!

Personally I think the iPod Touch will be treated differently from the iPods as it uses MacOS. Hopefully they'll only stop supporting it when it's not fast enough for the new features. Maybe 3.0 for example could require a better graphics chip, CPU and more RAM. My guess is that then all of the current generations (not just the 1st) will not be supported. Who knows though ;) probably not even Steve Jobs at this point.
