When SL was fresh, those errors were IMPOSSIBLE to live with.

Right now, it's annoying, but I can deal with it.

Hopefully this next release of SL coming in September 2011 or around there will be ok.

Wasn't Snow Leopard billed as the "cleaned up" version of Leopard where they weren't going to add anything just stabilize the OS?

That's amazing that those are the only things that need to be fixed. At least, those are the only issues being addressed.

It wasn't too long ago that a 10.x.y release brought a huge list of improvements/fixes to all sorts of things. OS X really is a mature, stable platform these days. :)

Now bring on 10.7 Lion!

Umm, you have seen the multi-page list of fixes, right?

Based on the geriatric pace of 10.6.x maintenance update releases, shouldn't 10.7 be called Cougar?

Just wondering...

;)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Sure new feature 10.6.3 will bring to us like unlock 64bit kernel for compatible Macbook (pro) <------- This is my dream :)

I was gonna post the same comment. Do a clean install of Snow Leopard, and upgrade to 10.6.2. Run a few system tests. It may be a faulty install of Snow Leopard (more often it's PEBKAC, Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair) as clean installs usually rectify the issue(s) (maybe from another third party software application, which happens A LOT, or a corrupted kernel or .plist, who knows).

I have had zero issues (beyond normal OS quirks) with Snow Leopard so far on 5 different Macs (1st gen Unibody MPB, 2007 17" MBP, 1st gen MacBook, 2007 Mac Mini and 1st gen Aluminum iMac) all seeing a variety of different uses (including development and virtualization on my machine). It was stable at .0 and it's still stable. In addition to that, it runs beautifully on my Hackintosh!

I dunno if the whiners just like to whine or what, but I just don't see the problems I hear on these forums. I didn't when I installed on the day of release.

I do want to mention that on every machine I have set up, I've done a clean install and reinstallation of all software because I distrust major OS upgrades. It's the first time Mail.app has been stable since I started using OS X.

+1.
I upgraded from Leopard to SL with the last developer seed before 10.6 went GM. Although I received the ordered DVD in September, I did not bother to reinstall. SL has been on my mid-2009 UMBP for half a year without any major issues. I have been running with the 64-bit kernel and doing development work with GCC & VI (No fancy GUI), web browsing, emailing, etc. I am an Firefox user. Barely use Safari.

Overall, a very happy SL user.

Is it me...or is this update taking a long time to come out?
I seem to read almost every week 'Apple Seeds 10.6.3 to Devs'!
The only two issues I have, is Quicktime X takes longer to load than I'd like! Q7 loads sweet-fast... And, if I've been away from my MBP for awhile and its been to sleep... boy.. it takes a long time to wake up... Almost makes me have to restart it JUST to get back that speed I was having before... Inturn, that's made me turn off sleep and screensaver / password etc etc.

Other than that! I'm happy :)!! :apple:

Funny how there are always comments like 'I don't have any issues and if you you do, you're either whining or stupid'.

Good for you, but there are a lot of bugs left in the OS, otherwise there would not be a need for any updates.

I have a lot of stability issues with SL: crashes of QTX, Finder and Safari. I'm staring at the beach ball all the time (both on my macbook pro and my imac). Yes, I did a clean install. Yes, I know that reinstalling might fix the issues, but I'm still holding off.

Am I disappointed in SL? partially, because it also fixed a lot of Leopard bugs. Still hoping for 10.6.3 though!

Since 10.6.2 I've been pretty rock solid, let's hope this fixes up that small percentage of times I've had an app crash.

-external usb drives unmount after a short while giving me THIS message:

My Mac Pro started doing this for no reason whenever I woke it up from Sleep. It hasn't done it the last few days, and I think it is down to a program installation. I had to install Real Player to view a video that I couldn't see any other way (VLC wasn't playing it). That's when my problems started.

I uninstalled Real Player and now I don't have the problem anymore.

So I'd check to see what stuff you have installed just before the problems started.

We can only hope! It has made photo editing in iPhoto and Aperture nearly impossible.

I've had the same problems with my 2007 Mac Mini in iPhoto 08 and Aperture 2, interestingly, I installed the Aperture 3 trial and didn't have any problems with that.

Frankly this was to be expected.

Apple did not made any drastic changes to the UI in order to focus on 'under-the-hood' changes.
Any change like this is going to break a lot of things that would needed to be fixed again. By keeping one areas frozen they can make sure they knew where the problem lies.

Since Apple does not do any extended Beta-tests, it is up to the loyal user-base to wait through the fixes for problems that only surface in real mass-tests. I am not sure Microsoft could get away with such an approach.

This is a problem with regards to EVERYTHING Apple releases. Because Steve is so god damn secretive, we're all his unwilling guinea pigs to test software. OS X is mature and there aren't really any "OMG WOW" features they're going to add to it that Microsoft wouldn't end up copying anyway, so they really need to start releasing public betas like 10.0. The fact that there are always issues with OS X and Windows environments with things like Samba show that Apple doesn't really test this stuff in any real world scenarios in their labs.

Jesus....this release is way, WAY overdue. I'm working on a new iMac Core i5 with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and its easily the worst release of any OS X I've worked with;

-photoshop crashes frequently
-finder freezes up
-external usb drives unmount after a short while giving me THIS message:

The usb drive issue is REALLY pissing me off. Theres no problem with the drive, it works on every computer EXCEPT the one at work.

You're not alone, I have constant crashes as well. The solution is to Save everything you're working on every 2-5 seconds, I've gotten used to it now and I never lose an entire document anymore! When there's just a minor Kernel Panic, rebooting doesn't take long, and I've set all my applications that I use to launch at startup automatically, so all I need to do is hold the power button for 6 seconds, reboot, and I'm back almost exactly where I was in a matter of minutes! If you do the math, that only adds up to less than 20 minutes of downtime per week, which is quite good! I didn't buy a £1300 computer expecting it to be stable anyway!
