I’m all for moving to new architectures but I’m going to be stuck in Mavericks for a while because I have too much work left behind in Aperture. I’ve moved to Lightroom years ago but I have many years worth of work in my Aperture libraries. Lightroom can import the photos but it doesnt come with the edits which is thousands of hours of work.

Anybody know of any tools that can export Aperture libraries to a modern pro photo editor with the edits left intact?

If you got it yesterday, it would have been PB 9, not 10. Indeed that build 19A578c is PB9/DB10 - not PB 10. PB 10 was only just released a few hours ago. Download it again if you want PB 10.
Thank you. This aging thing sucks. Somehow I thought I had PB 10, getting it now.

To make this even easier, click at the top, far right column to get the all "YES" or "NO" for the apps. that way you can easily see which app developers need to stay up late doing their homework to get the app up o speed aka 64 bit.

The only solution I can think of for you would be keeping it all in a VM using Parallels or something.

Well, I have a 2018 Mini and an eGPU. I reset my SMC and I was able to boot twice (after shutting down), so far, without it going to the white screen. It desktop resizes but at least it's booting to login screen. Hopefully, this continues.

I’ve received many emails from music software companies saying not to upgrade and turn off auto updates. Looks like this upgrade is going to be a massive cluster $&@?

I read that Catalina is going to need 2 logical volumes - one a read-only or stuff that should not be changed and another for the rest?
Correct.
One is reserved for user data and the other is for the OS.

Although you can modify data on both partitions.

Most music software I've come across is still 32bit or not properly signed.
Won't run on Catalina.

Based on the last iOS release I think I'll wait for the 3rd or 4th bug fix release.

. . . . And what's worse, I've got it running on a test machine, have had it for months now. It doesn't add anything useful. . . . .

We'll it adds a bunch of press releases, blog posts, etc. about how wonderful Apple is. That is all that counts to Mr. Cook.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I fear losing iTunes.

AppleTV app has so many bugs in the common code base, I know I am going to streaming access to movies, etc.

This may be the first MacOS release I skip—or more likely delay until I can’t take it any longer.

I’m looking forward to dumping iTunes, its klunky as heck. It’s certainly seen it’s fair share of frustrating bugs over the years, I think exasperated by it‘s complexity.

BUT I am going to wait for .1 or .2 before I install Catalina. I’m quite sure the initial release is going to be wobbly ride.

Aperture is dead software. It sucks, but figuring out how to move would be my #1 priority. Apple suggests migrating to LR classic. It looks like there are a lot of caveats though.

At some point you might have to just suck it up and export edited jpgs alongside the RAWs without the edit stack.

I don't know of any tools for this, but a good software developer should be able to reverse engineer enough Aperture-related things to make what you describe possible.

I actually don't want this GM to be the release build. Going from beta 10 to GM made my dock disappear. I couldn't get it back by hovering near the bottom of the screen either.

Restarting fixed it. Otherwise I would have deleted the dock preference file.

Nevertheless this is a bug I might expect from an early beta - not a GM!

Anyway I hope apple either fix it in another GM - or even in the final release build.

But if they release this GM as final release build - many won't know how to get their dock back.

You will be the only soul that sees this issue. Promise.

Maybe some people won’t encounter this problem.

But I reckon I won’t be the only one with this problem.

And that will be much worse if is released without being fixed.

I made a bug report to apple to make them aware so that they can fix it before release.

I may have found an answer. It’s possible to convert an Aperture library into a Photos library. Given that they’re both Apple, the adjustments should carry over. I won’t put my 60,000 Aperture photos in my personal Photos library, I’ll just create new ones. I can just open those libraries when I need to retrieve old photos since the the Photos app will be supported indefinitely.

I’ll give it a test run with one of my smaller Aperture and report back if it works. This could be the answer for Aperture users wanting to upgrade to Catalina.

Please, I want to know before I update, is there a way to switch to the official public update after I download the GM?
