External display issues are a problem with 12.1 and the LG Ultrafine 5k display with M1 Mac. The repair center installed a new motherboard and confirmed ever since 12.1 they have experienced issues. My 5k is now a boat anchor. Apparently, LG tried to address this issue with two new Screen Manager software updates. We are waiting for 12.2 to see if these issues will solve the problem of the monitor causing panic crashes of the M1 Macbook Air. Other threads are active on this issue.
I have two LG external displays. A 4k 27UL850-W and a 5k2k wide 34WK95U-W both connected via Thunderbolt/USB-C. Each is connected to a different OWC Thunderbolt 4 hub each connected to a different Thunderbolt 4 port on my MBP 16" Max.
I am running 12.2RC and have no problems. The 5k2k takes a bit longer to wake up but all good.
If I unplug them and then later plug them in again the layout gets back as expected. Even the open windows get back to where they belong.

Twiddle away? I use the system professionally and in private extensively and just because some edge cases cause issues, it doesn't mean it's catastrophic. People should be more aware what words they use. You can say that for your use case you perceive it as catastrophic, that would be correct. There are hundreds of new features that work perfectly fine. Catastrophic would be if they all don't work to a large extent, but that is not the case at all.
Plugging in a USB cable is not edge cases.

Any idea on whether this fixes QuickLook crashing and needing the Finder to be restarted or the thread quit?

Minor annoyance, but annoyance nonetheless.

Is it normal? Currently using new 21D48 on a MBP 16" 2021 M1 Pro 16GB Ram.

It's been a huge disaster for me as well. No real features added either. Will not rush to update in the future. Glad that I did not update my second iMac.
Maybe I'm a grumpy old man but I blame social media. The dopamine hit addiction is spreading to other areas - the average user won't be excited about an OS if it's rock-solid, stable, reliable, and still extensible with any software one wants. That's boring and unsexy. No, it has to have piles of idiotic features that most people won't use, that bog the system down unnecessarily, that increase its complexity and require effort to maintain, and that invariably will get cut down the road. But at least it creates a tiny dopamine rush in the average user when all this garbage is released, at the expense of the feelings of a comparatively small group of nerds who just want their computer to work, and are good at troubleshooting their way around Apple's software issues anyway. So embarrassing for Apple and so unfortunate for its users that require stability of the OS over how shiny and new it feels every year. What a reward for buying a $4k laptop, having to deal with this. My bad for the rant I just can't believe how bad this is.

Wow! Thank you so so much for this comment. Finally I can sleep again tonight! I found nothing specific about this in the internet. I searched for hours. Now I can sit and relax until they release the Update. It looks like it's fixed there, because I'm not the only one with this problem. Also, apart from the 100 random wakes from sleep, every time the focus changes it wakes from sleep. Disabling Power Nap is a small workaround here, but obviously it's still randomly waking up from sleep, causing the monitor to turn on. Btw I have the MacBook Pro 15-inch 2018, so it looks like everyone could have this issue.
I've only heard of the issue I described for M1 Macs, starting February 2021, so including Big Sur and Monterey. Guess I'm not surprised it extends to other models, though that's unfortunate.

M1 Mac Mini. Monterrey. Zero issues except Time Machine is useless. But time Machine has been useless for years. In fact, I'm not sure its ever really worked well.

Other than the occasional run away memory problem where some apps consume gigabytes of memory, my biggest problem with my MBP 16” M1 Pro is external monitor support. I have a Samsung G9 monitor (latest 1013 firmware) that won’t wake up when I connect it to my MBP via USB C (I have to unplug the cable and re-plug it to wake it up). Everything works fine, but slow, with HDMI. I am hoping this gets fixed soon!!
I have the exact same monitor, exact same firmware. 12.1 made it better but still crashes all the time when waking from sleep connected to it, and I have had the issue you described where I have to replug it to get it to work. Another workaround that works sometimes (annoying that it's sporadic) is opening the lid and logging into my machine, at which point it detects the monitor and I can close the lid. That's if the machine doesn't kernel panic during this process, as if it's some hunk of junk decade old Windows machine instead of a brand new $4k MacBook Pro from the makers of supposedly the best desktop OS software in the world

From what I can see, testufo.info does not support testing 120hz in Safari. How is everyone checking?

When I tested on Chrome with testufo, I was able to get a 120hz confirmation.

You know it you use FireFox 96.0.1 that testufo site will show 120Hz with a 16" MBP. Still have some stutter occurring with that browser. I consider Chrome a security risk of its thin client like operation. (cloud based web caches). Most locked down intranets using HTML proxy servers don't use it.

Seems like the only way to test Safari for sure would be to test 15.2 vs 15.3 and just go by feel. Seems users were complaining of scrolling slowness on 15.1 and 15.2.

safari still isn’t 120hz scrolling the safari preview one at 15.4 is that’s a shame will have to wait for the next release
Big Sur and Monterey beta release schedule have been fairly close. 11.2 RC was Jan 21, 12.2 RC was Jan 20. For some reason they had 3 11.2 RC's and it went public Jan 31st last year. Unless I am wrong this next beta cycle will be sooner and we will see the first beta of 12.3 which 11.3 last year involved something that was delayed being implemented, so universal control seems to come to mind.

MacBook air m1 here, is it me or scrolling in safari is super responsive and really smoother than 12.1, the whole system looks better and responsive , smoother but that can be after update placebo effect. although safari doesn't seem a placebo, there is a difference

It happens also in my 13 pro max, which obviously runs 120hz perfectly in safari. So testufo appears to be not compatible with safari or something.

Anyone else notice the App Store not working? It just loads up blank. :(

EDIT: A reboot fixed it. But still, never seen that happen before so it's likely the RC.
