Apple today seeded the release candidate version of an upcoming macOS Monterey 12.2 update to developers for testing purposes, with the new software coming one week the second beta and more than a month after the release of macOS Monterey 12.1.

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and after the appropriate profile is installed, betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences. Apple has also released a macOS 11.6.3 release candidate version for Big Sur users.

We don't yet know what's included in macOS Monterey 12.2, and no new features were found in the first beta. We'll update this article should anything new come up in the second beta.

As of now, there's one major feature that Apple has yet to add to macOS Monterey -- Universal Control. Universal Control is designed to allow a single mouse and trackpad to be used with multiple Macs and iPads, and Apple has said it will be launching this spring.

Anyone know if it's fixed the USB3 hub problems yet?

What bugs are you facing? What model?
The main one I've got which I'm hoping gets fixed in .2 otherwise I'll put Big Sur back on. I've 4 12 port USB 3 hubs which I use in my studio (I've loads of MIDI gear), worked fine before but now it's like it can't address everything at once so I'll switch something on, it'll appear on the computer, then I can get to about a dozen devices before switching something new on will cause something else to disappear. So if I need a particular drum machine and it's switched on but not showing I have to switch something else off that I'm not currently needing and it'll just appear. It's really annoying, if I'd spotted that this was a thing I'd have never put 12.1 on.

The other issue I have which I'm assuming is security related I have apps now that can't update (Roli Connect, Roland Cloud & Waves for example), they try to but then bomb out with an error. The work around is to quit the program then run it again from the CLI under sudo, works just fine then, once it's updated. I then chown everything that is now owned by root that shouldn't be and restart it (If I run it from the terminal again so I get a verbose output I can see if there are any permission/ownership issues), once all happy I can run it normally once more. This issue didn't seem to be unique to myself after searching forums, but I'm fairly certain that if I flatten this trash can and do a completely clean install of 12.2 when it drops then it'll probably be fine, it's my fault for upgrading from Big Sur.

Maybe I'm a grumpy old man but I blame social media. The dopamine hit addiction is spreading to other areas - the average user won't be excited about an OS if it's rock-solid, stable, reliable, and still extensible with any software one wants. That's boring and unsexy. No, it has to have piles of idiotic features that most people won't use, that bog the system down unnecessarily, that increase its complexity and require effort to maintain, and that invariably will get cut down the road. But at least it creates a tiny dopamine rush in the average user when all this garbage is released, at the expense of the feelings of a comparatively small group of nerds who just want their computer to work, and are good at troubleshooting their way around Apple's software issues anyway. So embarrassing for Apple and so unfortunate for its users that require stability of the OS over how shiny and new it feels every year. What a reward for buying a $4k laptop, having to deal with this. My bad for the rant I just can't believe how bad this is.
Sounds like we belong to the same generation with different values and expectations. Being a Mac user since 1995 when it was a very niche and unpopular product, Apple stand out from competition with its attention to details. As a software developer, we took a lot of time to polish our product before releasing it to public with a detailed log of all the bug fixes and improvements. It was a thing of honour and respect to our customers.

Does anyone else here keep a few tabs pinned all the time? I love have top sites a keystroke (⌘-1, ⌘-2, etc.) away.

Since the last two versions of macOS, ⌘-3 opens my fourth pinned tab, every time. If I hit it twice, it opens the correct one. Anyone else encounter this?

Agree with you. Apple was one of the last major companies that had pride in its work and showed respect for its customers through the quality of it. A respite from the trash product and software standards of other companies. I'm so sad to see that going away in favor of some transient flashy features at the expense of the most important stability and functionality of the OS.

Anyone seeing issues with captive portal windows not coming up on public wifi networks? I tried turning Private Relay / Hide My IP off but that didn't help either.

You, my friend, are what we call an “outlier”. ?

not trying to dismiss the reality of your problem, but 48 concurrent devices? That’s amazing!
I appreciate that, but I'm using it in a recording studio and there's a lot of MIDI gear, each one has a USB connection to the computer. They all worked fine on Big Sur, but it's been really weird with Monty. It's like there isn't enough addresses to talk to everything. I've seen a lot of posts online saying that there having issues with USB3 hubs, it's the same on Intel and M1 machines.

What does this mean?
The current 12.1 Apple Music app is not really an app, rather an interface to display apple music content from the web something akin to a "web app"; as a result it's pretty sluggish and unresponsive.
The new Apple Music app, while retaining the same interface for now, will be a purposely made application developed specifically for macOS, therefore we should expect much better performance.

Seeing some errors in Apple Music, for example if you go to the "Listen Now" tab, right click on "Favorites Mix" and pick "Show in Apple Music", you get this error:

app.js[1561:46] Error: No storeAdamID in ContentDescriptor
yeah but i don't think its related to frontend its a server issue can be fixed without update.

External display issues are a problem with 12.1 and the LG Ultrafine 5k display with M1 Mac. The repair center installed a new motherboard and confirmed ever since 12.1 they have experienced issues. My 5k is now a boat anchor. Apparently, LG tried to address this issue with two new Screen Manager software updates. We are waiting for 12.2 to see if these issues will solve the problem of the monitor causing panic crashes of the M1 Macbook Air. Other threads are active on this issue.

No issues with a 4k HDR Samsung screen on 12.1 or 12.2
(Belkin USBC cable from Apple)

Using new MBP 14inch PRO

I hope you reported your use case to Apple as a feedback/bug report. They ought to see what they are messing up.

They really need to fix both memory leak and pink screen! This makes me impossible to work with M1 Max.

Calling Monterey a disaster is overdoing it. I have zero issues at work or at home.
MY new (Monterey 12.1) M1 MacPro16 - just decides it can no longer reach internet via WiFi (everyone else can), garbles bluetooth audio, can't remember the screen background settings from one day to the next (2 external + built-in), has kernel panicked at least 6 times in the 2+ months I've had it. And there are other issues... I'm sorry but the "Apple just works" reputation is a thing of the past. I've been using Apple machines for development for over ten years and the OS quality trend is definitely downwards. Happy for everyone lucky enough to not have problems.
