APFS doesn't support hard link for directories and there are no plans on introducing support for it. Time Machine heavily relies on hard links, so it will keep this way forever or until someone decides to modify APFS rules.
You don't need the hard directory links anymore if you use incremental streams to do backup snapshots.

On beta 1, wanted to Update to beta 2, too little space, the more I delete the less space I get.
No, it's not local backups, I deleted them to no avail, some serious bug here.

System gets slower the closer I get to 0GB
What is odd is that if I delete the sleepimage in /var/(VM)disk the space will grow by about 2 GB, if I delete an App I will get less space, think something is amiss with local snapshots or the System not reporting the actual space left.

Any ideas apart from reinstalling or using restore from TimeMachine?

I've had these weird memory issues... A massive amount of 'Other'. For me, the Time Machine backups used to bloat my 'System' memory - this is different.

On Beta 2, deleting iCloud files is still a problem. I have a file that will not delete at all and locks up the bin until I manually stop it.

Anyone know how to force empty trash?

How desperate are you to do this? I like things neat and tidy so my answer would be "very" :)

What I'd try is ... reboot to recovery and run FirstAid using Disk Utility. and/or ... "rm -fr .Trash" from the RELEVANT USER directory (don't mess that command up!) and/or doing the same but after booting into safe mode then single user mode.

I will never understand why every new OS results in the wholesale breaking of things that were working just fine prior. How is this progress? Seems more like a study in user aggravation.
Exactly....and I'm not falling for this again:(

[...] Can't Update to beta 2 because I have insufficient storage left, the more I delete the fewer GBytes I have left. [...]

Had the same problem. No matter how much stuff I deleted, remaining disk space was decreasing more and more.

I figured Time Machine was the causing this. So I tried to delete local snapshots, but nothing was shown in terminal when using "tmutil listlocalsnapshots /". This was weird, because I knew there were 11 snapshots on my system (it was shown when I ran fist aid on my hard drive).

Then I un-checked "Back Up Automatically" in the Time Machine settings, which in return should also remove all local snapshots.

After a reboot I successfully reclaimed all my missing disk space (over 60GB) and could finally update to Beta 2.

Already reported this behavior as a bug in Feedback Assistant, because to the end user this is very untransparent.

Wow, not even had to reboot, I disabled Automatic Updates, went to the Finder to see I instantly got my space back, your help was/is much appreciated.
Updating right away.

This is indeed a nasty bug.

I had exactly the same, Terminal command showed just one (Empty Data) Local snapshot but when I ran First aid on the disk it had 12.

I'm glad I could help. Guess if you file a bug report as well, chances might increase they will fix this issue in an upcoming update.

TimeMachine is buggy like hell, see below.
Finder is slow like molasses.
