Hell, it is a beta.
If you want a stable version of macOS, you should wait until first or second official versions (10.12.1 and onwards)

It's also a very late beta version.

Valid question, to which I think the answer is probably yes.

But first check the app compatibility list in the iOS beta section of this forum. Make sure there are no incompatible apps that you rely on. As a daily driver for someone not running a mission critical business, I'd say it's more than stable enough.

The important question: will this be the new golden standard when it comes to speed and stability, a la Snow Leopard? Or is it still a bag of poo like most of OS X newest iterations?

I don't quite understand why you're quoting me on this. I was discussing that the 17" 2010 MBP will not accept 16GB RAM. It's 8GB, regardless of OS. The i5-540M won't support more than 8GB RAM, whether it's Mac or PC.

Did I say CPU when I should have technically said chipset? I dunno. But surely the RAM limit comments are still valid? I'm a little confused what point you're making! Sorry.

It the CPU that sets the limit:
http://ark.intel.com/products/43544/Intel-Core-i5-540M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_53-GHz
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) 8 GB

The memory controllers are build into the CPU's.

Here is a thread here discussing it where a guy posted a screenshot of 16GB working:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/16gb-ram-in-a-mid-2010-macbook-pro.1511196/

Again that's the 13". I'll look into what you've said though.

See, that's what I thought too. Plus Windows or Mac — even Wintel laptops with the 540M won't post with 16GB RAM. Certainly in my experience, anyway.

Everybody keeps telling me I'm wrong; no, the 17" 2010 can support 16GB RAM, as long as it's not running OS X; but every thread they link me to as 'proof' is talking about the 13", which I've already mentioned does support 16GB RAM. I feel like I'm missing out on the joke here.

Can somebody please settle this once and for all?

Don't even bother to reply, they just don't get it. You're 100% correct, 2010 15 and 17 Never Ever supported 16 GB in Windows or anything else. The 13 inch did, as we all knew, and it was (still is?) a MAJOR point of contention for many people thinking how could their larger beefier pro modes be outclassed by the smaller pro.

Thank you very much for your reassurance. I thought I was going crazy and was convinced I was overlooking something obvious that they were saying. Two posters were calling me out on it, saying the same thing. One I can understand. But two?

I just didn't understand how it could work. It couldn't. The chip just doesn't support it. No other source confirmed it either. Well at least I know now that simply two posters are peddling the same misinformation.

Thank you again. :)

This is the first OS X update I haven't felt the need to try on my Mac(s) since Mavericks. To people who have already tested it: what's so compelling about this release other than Siri (which I'm not planning to use anyway)?

Airplay audio sync in Youtube via Chrome is still off. I've checked both current and beta Chrome versions. It's synced in Safari, however. This didn't become an issue until the last developer beta.

I'd echo this statement by acedoubt. Once again let me remind developers and sarcastic posters on this forum that a Public Beta is different from a Developer Beta. Apple only choose to run with the Public Beta once the Developer beta has reached a satisfactory stability point.

Apple don't want the public to be downloading Public Beta software if its going to cause stability problems.

So yes, you can download this on your daily laptop, its stable. I have and I love it, just a few niggles.

I have installed Sierra, no problems occurred. When I made a Malwarecheck, Malwarebytes, and I did use Etrecheck. This is the message I get in Etrecheck:
Does anyone know what this is?

It's new software added by Apple in Sierra, Etrecheck has not been update yet so it warns you.

Do you have an SSD? El Cap runs like El Crap on a spinner. But max out the RAM, throw in an SSD, and you're laughing.

It certainly doesn't run as well. But depending on your use case it's fine. A friend has a spinner in his 2 year old iMac. Now he isn't setting the world alight in terms of pushing it performance wise. But it works perfectly fine for him.

For me, the SSD upgrade in my late 2011 MBP made a huge difference, and I won't go back.

Spewing hyperbole like that diminishes your argument, rather than helping it.

Does airport utility show the base stations again when back to my mac is enabled?

Uh, even SSD, El Cap is still pretty much El crap. Sierra is nowhere much better. Oh but my machine is an old low end MacBook Air.

Wow, didn't even consider this. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro. Found a 525 GB SSD on Crucial for $129. Seems like a no brainer.

Does it really make it feel like a new computer? Thanks.

Thom

Have a late 2012 MBP. It was getting really slow and unusable. Put a Samsung Evo 500 gig SSD and 16 gig ram in and it is really like a brand new computer. Can keep it for 3 or 4 more years now.
