This is great that Apple is finally putting albums together again... it's about time!

Otherwise, would someone happen to know if tracks in iTunes Match/iTunes in the Cloud now "stream" properly, meaning they don't get cached to the device? If they do, are they easy to remove or are they still "stuck" in the device like in the current version of iOS?

Spotify free sucks, and some people like to listen to lossless music or just don't want to pay for a subscription.

Fair points. Although I do wonder how many actually go through the convenience of ripping off CDs or buying lossless tracks online to get lossless.

I find certain apps drain the battery, the worst being WhatsApp and Facebook

If I avoid them I can get 3 days

Lucky you, but it's seems it no App specifically. I've done all the obvious things and it's hard to attribute the loss to anything in particular, even after installing some specialised diagnostic tools.

Well I'm on subscription and although it's no loss-less, the high quality streaming is VERY close, and going through an Apogee Duet to KRK monitors is sounding pretty damn good...

I'm a little surprised there's been zero mention of the new Books app, both in the main article and the comments (same goes for beta2). I guess it's not very popular, but I listen to Audiobooks everyday.

Audiobooks in 8.4 has been almost unusable. It won't even let you play a track then go back to view your library or, God forbid, open the corresponding eBook at the same time so you can read along.

Hopefully, they are focusing on the Music app for now and will get to the Books app later. I'll be over here holding my breath...

Three albums by an artist, you get a song list. Four albums, you get an album list.

I don't know yet if the music app still plays through the end of one album and on to the next. I hope (really hope) that has also stopped, but will have to explore later.

Still missing in action: Select by genre, and get a list of artists in the genre, then use that artist list to find albums. I don't care if search covers this type of selection; I want a browsable interface.

Under genre, albums sort by title, even if settings specify sort by artist.

I have downloaded the update (public beta) on my iPhone, but
even re-installing the profile on my iPad (4th gen) it will say
that iOS 8.3 is the up to date version. Had the same problem with
the previous beta, anyone any idea what to do?

I do since I am not sure how to stream music underground with no signal yet on my commute to the office here in the NYC area. Do Spotify or other services allow for download to play and if so, for how long?

This and the music you love can suddenly disappear from Spotify (or other streaming services)

I'm surprised people aren't just using Spotify. Who 'buys' music now?

I still do. With my listening habits, I buy a new album about once every other month and I'd rather own that album in a collection than subscribe to it. I do use Spotify's free service to try out new music. I had the Zune Pass back in the day for a little over a year. When I got an iPhone and Zune wasn't available, I switched that off and was really bummed at the amount of music I liked that was stuck on it. They did a 9-songs a month for "free" with the sub, but it was DRM'd and couldn't be moved to another platform. Although I enjoyed the service, I really wish I spent my money on the albums directly than on the sub service.

I think these sub services are great, and are a great options for people. Just not for me at this stage in my life. I think if I were buying multiple albums a month like I was in my teen years, I'd probably like the sub service more.

Music app is meh!

The changes to the music app seem to be just for changes sake. Apart from the Up Next and Play Next, there's nothing new that I can see. There are now some ugly icons in the song list showing what's on your device and what's not (this beta now acknowledges the music I have on my phone, and the music in the cloud, so now it shows doubles of almost everything in my library - yes, I know it's a beta.), but where's the cross-fade, the add to playlist from the now playing screen, or anything else interesting? Personally, I don't even find the new look particularly appealing.

Are you on the previous beta?

This does not bode well!

Don't listen to music, but do listen to a lot of audiobooks.

Do third party apps still read the audiobook category correctly, or are all third party music apps now broken with respect to audiobook playback?

(I use leechtunes, which adds gestures for use while driving along with decent customisation for audiobook navigation)

Do you submit feedback regularly with the feedback assistant? I think Apple is only giving people access to the iOS beta if they regularly report bugs on OS X betas.

I didn't report too many bugs on the OS X public beta when I last used it (in October) and I'm still in the iOS public beta ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are you on the previous beta?

I had installed all iOS 8.3 betas, since then the new betas will not install, but as the profile is installed, I can't even restore the iPad to factory settings. I have re-installed the profile, but nothing changed, the feedback assistant doesn't work anymore either.
I did all the same updates with my iPhone, that has no problems at all.
