Gmail accounts seem to be working (after a wait)

The latest Mac Mail app seems to have problems accessing Gmail accounts. I even deleted my gmail accounts and tried to set them up again, but accessing mail through through Mac Mail is a no go. This is a bit of a showstopper for me.

Must be some kind of timing issue with Google security. Initially, I was not able to turn on mail for any of my Google accounts in Internet account settings. After waiting several hours I tried again, and was able to successfully re-add the accounts.

I really dislike Photos, to the point that the main house iMac that houses all our pictures will remain on 10.10.2 until I can figure out how to install 10.10.3 without it converting our libraries.

You can still use iPhoto and your iPhoto library after updating to 10.10.3.

Anyone else find it weird that the mail problems of any platform are usually gmail?

Not weird at all, Google is not sticking to using standard IMAP specs and have their own custom implementation of it. For an example, the tags itself as a concept does not exist in IMAP, so they're doing weird stuff to work around it. That's why you would see weird configurations for all mail clients, not just Mail.app.

It's also why I have zero problems with Fastmail in Mail.app, they at least follow the standard IMAP spec. In fact, they also contribute to their own IMAP server and working on the next gen email standard called JMAP to replace IMAP.

However, that does not mean all of the issues are on the fault of Google, some are definitely on Apple.

Grey Screen

Just throwing it out there. After installing the update the Mac rebooted and continued the second stage of the install. After the progress bar got about 20% of the way across - Grey Screen with "Do Not Enter" sign. :(

Hopefully it was just me!

Restoring from time machine. (But it is always scary!)

This could be the one that finally fixes the wifi bug...

There's a wifi "bug"?

----------

The problem with "the wifi bug" is that I doubt it's A bug. It's likely not as simple as that.

What's the wifi issue people are having? I have been running Yosemite on multiple Macs since the betas without issues. I use Apple and non-Apple wifi equipment. Is the "bug" specific to older hardware?

To clarify, are you still having this problem with the 10.10.4 beta?

No, I don't want to put it on because I have the problem on my production machine and I don't want to use the beta on this.

It is only the mouse that does it, my keyboard is fine and so is my wireless trackpad.

MS used to be the big bad evil, but over the past few years they've become a LOT more pleasant than Apple to deal with regarding this sort of thing

A PRO Microsoft post voted #1 in a Mac affine forum, hear hear :) Hell has just frozen over

Some people are having issues with reconnect on wake. Some are having it end up renaming the base station every time they connect. It'll be the name and then a number and they'll have a whole list of just the base station and increasing numbers. Those are the two that come to mind.

I don't know there cause. Never happened to me, to be honest.

Dude, ain't it funny how these normative statements get support.

Calling a company like Microsoft or Apple evil... I mean come on. Microsoft used to be the big evil now it's Apple? What does that even mean? I'll tell you, it means nothing. LOLZ.

It might indicate Apple is becoming more popular and Microsoft is losing significance.

same here, noticed it only a week ago with extremely lagged bluetooth mouse and trackpad performance to the point of no movement and then disconnection with the iMac and then an automatic reconnect.

Really disappointing as I can't get any work done with my top spec 5k iMac.

Before 10.10.3, the bluetooth devices worked fine but i had random reboots whilst it was sleeping "because of a graphics issue"

finally they fixed it in 10.10.3 but now I get random reboots with a sleep wake failure associated with bluetooth (according to the crash lag) which I'm thinking is releated to the above mentioned issue

Exactly the same issues and the same machine, also have 5K iMac.

----------

The reason I asked is that I experienced these same issues and was able to narrow it to the Wi-Fi+bluetooth combination. When I wired my laptop or iMac, I didn't experience any issues with bluetooth.

I gave up on waiting for Apple to fix these, so I've switched my stuff to USB wired devices and using no bluetooth devices.

It's sad and I'm starting to thinking of switching to Windows 10 when it comes out unless 10.11 magically fixes everything.

Is your iMac wired or using Wi-Fi network? If Wi-Fi, switch to the Ethernet cable, see if these issues are "magically" gone.

No issues with Trello in Safari here.

I turned wifi off to test as it's hard wired but still have to leave wifi on for airdrop. Made no difference, I'm convinced it's a bug in the trackpad driver.

I was waiting to hear if Mail App has had any love in these betas.
In it's current form, it is useless garbage.

I've had no problems using the Mail app. It works very well for me but I don't use Gmail I use a proper email service that actually supports IMAP. Are you using gmail because that's likely where the garbage exists you speak of.

Might be time to take out the trash.

Weird. I'm having Bluetooth issues with my trackpad only (keyboard works fine) on my iMac and 10.10.4 beta worked for 6 days for me before he issue returned. What the hell is going on with apple and this issue?

Bluetooth has been a nightmare for me for ages - I have a bluetooth mouse, keyboard and trackpad (all Apple stuff) connected to my rMBP when I'm using it at my desk and they're constantly disconnecting and slowing down / juddering.

I've resorted to turning WiFi off and connecting with a cable which helps the slow down but not the disconnects.

None of the betas have done anything to improve things and this one is no different :(

There is nothing to figure out.

It doesn't convert your libraries unless you launch Photos and ask it to.

Nope, don't use gmail.
I use iCloud (which works fine) and 2 exchange server addresses. Both exchange accounts exhibit:

Deleted emails returning to inbox
Emails with attachments corrupt forcing sender to resend. Happens with most PDF attachments.
If I move them to a folder, they are permanently damaged as well.
Opens fine initially on iPhone/iPad, but if mail opens it, damaged goods.

Have tried literally everything to correct.
Outlook works fine, airmail works fine.

I have this issue with trackpad, magic mouse and keyboard. All Apple devices so it's not just the trackpad :(

I even tried removing the trackpad from the equation and using just the keyboard+mouse but after a few hours bluetooth input starts lagging to and getting jittery :(

I opened a bug report and they requested more info, thru bluetooth debug logging etc and after I provided them the logs my bug report was closed as a duplicate, so I guess they are aware of the issue.

It also bothers me I have a 2.5k Euro computer on which I need to use a microsoft keyboard and mouse to actually use...

Got so mad at one point that even thought of selling all Apple things and moving camp to Windows/Android :D Then I drank some water and calmed down...

And drawings are just lines and curves on paper, right?

Technically yes they are.

It's not some mystery to isolate when it occurs either, I can replicate it over and over on both a 2013 and 2014 iMac.

And I understand it takes time to fix bugs I've managed several app development projects before but its a bit hard to stay silent when Safari patches come out before something thats a main feature of a computer.

But it might not be as easy to discover WHY it occurs. :|

Seems like they fixed the bug where `backupd` from Time Machine would just eat and eat memory, while doing nothing useful. I've seen 8GB swap with all normal applications closed.

That would happen when, apart from my Time Capsule, I would connect a USB drive that I keep to make a secondary backup from time to time.

After this update, the backup continues as expected.

Has anyone else had issues with embedded youtube videos at various websites?

They haven't displayed for me for months, just empty white space where it would normally be. Does ad blocker perceive them as ads maybe?

And I am still hoping someone at Apple will fix the problem with file dates that causes a file with a time of 8 PM to be listed before a file with a time of 11 AM. I have not found a way to have dates displayed using 24-hour format.

Also, prior to Yosemite, fractions (1/4, 1/2, etc.) could be converted to smaller fonts automatically. That I can not find how to change.

Have you tried clicking on the 'empty white space' to see if that starts the video? On some of the videos I want to see, Safari has an 'energy saver' feature that won't play the video until it is selected.

Videos that have the Safari energy saver are always indicated as such.. but there's no apparent video there at all.. by empty white space I mean it looks like this.

Hey, watch this great video!

Wasn't that AWESOME?!

I have noticed this as well. I removed all extensions (including ad blocker) to see if that would help. It made no difference. I can't figure out a pattern to it.

Too late for it to be any help but that issue can be resolved much faster than a restore.
Most of the time Trim was enabled on a non Apple SSD, if that is the case a few minutes would have solved the boot problem.

Fix.
