I'm still wondering why people at a site called MacRumors post that they'll go for an Samsung S3.

Shouldn't they post on SamsungRumors?

Something like MacRumors, just a few months after :D
Or, rumors about what Samsung will adopt next

And why so angry about Apple? A few years early everybody loved the underdog and now they made it the new enemy just because of their success, or because they protect their intellectual property?

and the iphone is based on innovative ideas of many phones before it. thats how tech works. thats how everything you own that is tech works. ive been a member of mac rumors for 4 years and havnt had an iphone since the 3gs because for me android was a better platform(i am still in no way tied to an ecosystem) and if you go similar dates the nexus was far ahead of the 4s when it comes to tech and capabilities.

As for software updates - how many do you need if the phone is already highly functional. Further - unlike iOS - Google/etc roll out the stock APP updates regularly - so while you might not get a new OS each year (and you don't with the iPhone either) you get incremental updates just like iOS.

So you're telling me that the 2.5 years of updates that my iPhone 3G (not even S) got, never happened? Interesting. Let's not forget that 3GS owners have gone from iOS 3 to 5 and now 6 in the fall. Keep your ignorance to yourself.

"The report notes that impact of any sales bans would likely be negligible, as most of the cited products have already been discontinued in the U.S. in favor of successor devices. "

Macrumors, I think you got it backwards. Those device are all still on sale, a fact you can easily confirm on carrier websites! That's why Apple singled them out for injunctions. This will hurt Samsung, at least for a few weeks or months!

As for people saying that old phones like these don't matter anymore: What about the iPhone 4 and 3GS? They make up 45 % of AT&T iPhone sales, according to a study from NPD. Those old Android phones still sell very well for $99 or $0, and I'm sure cheaper phones make up at least 50 % of Android sales in the US.

Not only with this quote but with also others, I see that it is always about the underdog. When you are poor, you are defending yourself, but when you are filthy rich, you are trying to rip others off.

The core issue is Apple is not innovating. They are doing nothing new with their phones. Pull down notifications? Android. Integrated maps? Already on Android, and still better on Android. Who needs to see the city they're navigating in from the sky? Maybe a bird...

And yet, here we have Apple trying to block the sales of other phones because their manufacturers are taking the basic post-2007 smartphone concept that Apple started and are making it much, much better than Apple ever will.

The 4S? (Lol). The new iPhone? Already behind. Apple wants to stay on top even though they're not putting out the best products (anymore). Shame on them, not Samsung.

----------

If you're referring to iOS6, I'd wait for the full unveil. WWDC was for developers (and indeed lots of nice new APIs are included that I'm really excited about). No doubt the new iPhone unveil will out the rest of the changes.

Yeah, I'm waiting to see if Apple actually comes out with something genuine and great. They've been playing catch-up to Android lately however, and it's not so cute anymore. I love my Mac and the integration an iPhone offers, but I can't bring myself to keep over-paying for iPhones with the newer offerings.

As long as

Some people like Mac but iOS sucks balls.

iOS does suck balls.

Also Apple has become what it used to hate.

The S3 is a great phone and im so glad i changed after 5 years

-----------

I can do calls, send some mails, listen to music and play a game or two, iOS still works for me.

What do you need more?
But Android can do this too, or is there even more. I don't know.

But if you like the GUI or whatever more at the Samsung S3, it's ok. Go for it.

I'm not sure if in the USA this saying is popular, but in germany we say
"an other mother has a nice daughter too"

All I can say is that the first iPhone fit's my demands until the iPhone4 came out and my phone contract extended, so I upgraded. And now 2 years later I'll do so again to iPhone5 or how they'll call it. Never change a running system..

And I think Apple become what it like to be, a company with enough resources to do great products and from time to time innovations.
Or was there anytime more?

Fair game...

I should give Apple a credit - they selected devices literally infringing on iPhone design patent. Just zoom in/out specified phone image and put iPhone on top of the screen - it is exact match. Samsung just got careless. Another thing, how come these phone maker companies never obtained a design patent on their phones - this is business 101 for any thing you plan to release to public. I would do it even for a staple if I decide to manufacture one. What an idiots...

i dont like apple telling me what i can do with my device. i paid for it and i want to do what i want on it.

Smartphones are computers and i like to sometimes use them as such.

Apple wants me to do what it wants me to do and i have never been very good at being told what i can and cant do.

i dont need to get into the Android v iOS debate its been done to death.

Just after 5 years im glad im out.

sounds familiar...
A friend of mine, working as a developer at a bigger search engine, told me the same a few years ago before they released their first mobile operating system.
He previewed it to me, at a time it was not available in Germany with full of excitement. These days I cant see a difference, but heard the same arguments.
And I never met anybody who has more trouble with his pc's (first Linux, then Win) and met anybody whose mind changed often about OS's.
I think too much freedom of configuration is not good, even for experts.
Look at SAP (ERP) or iOS, still working for the user.
And honestly, what do you need to configure your phone for? What are you doing with it. So after a few years of IT experience I can say a phone make calls and send some packages but it's still a phone with not a high productivity level.
And that you don't like what Apple offer is ok.
If you go to Burger King and like to have Fubu, don't be disappointed.
Go to a Fubu restaurant.
But don't say I didn't warn you....

S3

I can't believe Apple hasn't gone after their worst nightmare: the Galaxy S3.

That was my first thought as well!
I saw a tv ad for the S3 just today.
My guess is that we may see many more since it isn't included in the ban list.

What are they behind on?

On the contrary to the most electronics manufacturers, Apple`s development team still works like a start up, and this is probably why they are not updating their products every 3-4 months and coming up with all different shapes and sizes. They are working on several products and they are making sure those products deliver for what they promise. Specs on paper do not mean anything if the integration of software and hardware is not well executed.

Apple cannot satisfy everybody with one phone design but they are damn sure satisfying quiet a big part of the population.

I don't buy that they are not innovating anymore thing. If they pooped out a different shaped phone every 3 months, would that be innovation???

They put their innovations out there so frequently in the last 2-3 years, everybody thinks it comes out just like that.

the s3 doesnt look or act anything like an iphone. the icons were changed and its very very different from the looks of any apple product. if they do go after it and it doesnt get thrown out im going to start mailing letters.

Funny isn't it? I've personally have never, ever had the urge to go to any competitor's site to bad mouth a competing product, and still have no desire or intention to to this day. What you say is really true, because I see no point of going to a Samsung forum just to brag about the upcoming iPhone. But these people just can't seem to help it. To me, that just shows the pyschology and irony of it. No matter how much hate they spew on these forums, they still care about Apple. ;)

My predictions:

1. Judge Koh WILL grant Apple the ban it requests for offending Samsung models.
2. Judge Koh WILL reduce the jury award to about $500 million.
3. Judge Koh WILL triple the damages because of Samsung's willful violation of Apple's patented technology, resulting in a net award to Apple of $1.5 billion.

September 20 can't get here fast enough for me! :)

Mark

This is terrible news for us, the consumers.

Especially this consumer. I was planning on getting the Galaxy II X. I'm without a phone right now and can get one for $300 new with no contract. Not getting another iPhone until the screen size catches up (I know.. I'm one of those people)

i also dont coming here to bash iphone...its a great phone just there are better options for some people but on a serious note what would you really brag about? iphone has more games? at the end of what i can think of

What a silly statement... why do you think, never mind, you didn't. You just hate...

Look at sig and guess again. I have invested tons of money in Apple and their products over the years dating back to the Apple //c.

Now I'm judged by what kind of cell phone I use.

M'kay...

Why, because it's all or nothing? Brand loyalty should only go so far, ultimately you should go for what smartphone suits you best.

(Also, I'm a Mac user, which is why I joined this site)

They better not try, 'cause that's what I'm replacing my iPhone 4 with!

S3 is a much better phone, in my opinion, than iPhone. It isn't Samsung's fault Apple is slacking!

How do you know that if you still are using the iPhone?

Hey...the phone might be ok...but can't get around that OS. Still android, and if the stay true to form, the OS will be outdated with the next release.
