I have a 2nd gen 20GB iPod. It worked fine (one battery replacement) until I replaced it two weeks ago (32GB iPhone). I'm pretty happy with a product that lasted seven years. It's firewire, and it syncs just fine -- a hell of a lot better than USB, which is utter crap. That Apple Chat guy is a tool.

Lemme just say, though: $130 for a 1st-gen 5GB model is like my first girlfriend--cute, but stupid.

Can't order one in Canada

I'm on the phone right now and he can't find it in the Canadian store so I can't order one.

Then after looking around for a while and chatting with somebody he said it was fake and put there by a third party website. I don't know how that works, maybe a third party submitted it to the store like how Apple sells other third party things. He then said that he thinks all the orders will end of being canceled.

Damn, and I was going to buy one! I'd still take the chance if I could order one in Canada. :(

ordered one.

As others have reported, my order status now lists a 10GB model, instead of 5GB... it will be interesting to see what happens.

I love that you can talk to 10 Apple chat reps and get 10 different answers about what is going on. Quality support right there.

HA! I could not have said it better. Cute but stupid, I actually am engaged to my first girlfriend! (after a 9 year hiatus and many other poor ladies on my part ;))

New, in box, 5GB iPods go for around $300-$350 on eBay. So, it wouldn't be that stupid.

UHHH, I am not sure what completed listings you searched, but 1 in the last 30 days new, in box went for $302.95. 1.

All the rest, quite a few, under $100. And like I said, if it is in refurb box, not worth as much.

Don't forget you have to be signed in to eBay for those links to work. I am not saying you are lying, nor am I trying to troll, but if there is not a current market, i.e., someone willing to pay it, it is not (currently) worth it. Although eBay is a huge place and my search terms may be too exact and not counting for most of the illiterate eBay (POWER)sellers:rolleyes:

Looks real to me, but the rep indicated that FW might not work anymore. Imagine taking it in to the Genius Bar with it being under warranty!

what the rep indicated is incorrect. I have a 10 GB 2nd gen iPod (w/ touch wheel, otherwise same) and it does sync. It too is FW only.

I heard these were all refurbs so anyone looking for a collector's item, you may want to keep looking because this will not be shipped in a retail box.

What they have pictured is NOT a first-generation iPod. The first iPod had only a scroll wheel. I bought the original iPod when it first came out, but this is not it. I believe this is a 3rd generation iPod pictured on the store page, with the 4 buttons.

this has to be a mistake, but I would have thought they'd have sorted it out far quicker.
I talked to Apple and they said "they are having issues with removing it", but no matter what, the order would not go through.

Me too. Got different answers. However, the ones that said it was a mistake, said that the order would not go through and money would be refunded, if orders went through. What's going on, Apple?!

I saw this over on Gizmodo and ordered one.

Something's fishy, though. I ordered a 5GB, the confirmation showed 5GB, but when I went to check on the order it was a 10GB (see below). I have yet to receive an e-mail confirmation, so I'm thinking this is a big eff up.

Haha.

Can't be real.. even if you can "order" one. It'll get cancelled as soon as they realise what is going on.

Someone's last day in the office and thought they'd leave with a bang ;)

My 2nd gen (touch-wheel) 20gb iPod is still in my drawer somewhere. Headphone output broke, and when I went to fix it, the iPod nanos came out. Clunky old thing... I guess it makes for a nice retro paperweight =)

Ordered, said 5 GB on the order (note, it does *NOT* say "refurbished" anywhere!) but when I went back to the Order Status, it says 10 GB refurb.

Dang, I wanted a 5 GB 'new-in-box'...

Insurance fraud?

Heh... I had one of these, and I insured for $500. I could have sworn that's what I paid. It was a good thing, though. It was stolen later and I bought a new one and had some cash left over. I got the one with the touch-wheel and the buttons across the top. Third generation, maybe? The insurance was only $7 a year, I think. I think the replacement that I bout was only $300, but I can barely remember yesterday. One thing I do remember about that first iPod was that mechanical wheel. I had it hooked up to my car stereo via one of those cassette adapters. It was laying in the passenger seat and I had to hit the brakes for something. The iPod hit the floor, and the volume cranked all the way up! I think I bought a cup-holder-adapter or whatever shortly after that happened!
