Aw man thats awesome. I know theres a problem with manufacturing but it would be great if hardware manufacturers released new, retro products.
I'd buy me a new SNES, a replacement 3G iPod for my girlfriend (she loves the one I gave her but even after a battery replacement - it's not doing so well :(). Might chuck in an unopened Amiga too :D.

Class action lawsuit?

Are you kidding me? Do you know anything at all about any part of the law that would even suggest this is worthy of such lawsuit? Not to mention, how much money do you really think you'll see from all this? You're willing to find an attorney, who best be entirely stupid and willing to throw any respect he/she others may have for him/her out the window, to file a class action lawsuit over the fact that Apple is not looking to sell you 8 year old technology? In the end, should this take place and should there be a ruling in your favor, you'll see about $20 ... give or take $19.

How are you damaged by this? You're not. there are NO damages. Those who ordered will be refunded. There are alternate, more advanced models out there that replaced this model so a proper substitute has been made an option.

People like you annoy me to no end. It's a combination of greed, disregard for what the law should be doing, and a complete lack of drive.

Got this at 12:37 AM CDT:
"To Our Valued Apple Customer:

We appreciate your recent purchase at the Apple Online Store.

The iPod model you requested is no longer in stock and has been removed
from your order. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Apple tries to fulfill every order placed on the Apple Online Store.
However, if a product is no longer available, we may need to cancel
your order."
:(

Mine still says Not Yet Shipped..

I got that same email as others have gotten, at 1:37am. No longer available and it has been removed from my order.

Ah well.

i wonder if they sell sarcasm detectors at ebay?

I got my cancellation email this morning, so I called 1800-myapple and talked to one of the reps.

She had no record of a cancellation email being sent, so she put me on hold... after about 6 minutes she came back and said her manager had looked into it and it must have been a very limited item.

But she did say she'll officially cancel the order as well as e-mail me a coupon for $15 off my next purchase of $100 or more. So it was worth it I suppose.

I would think that a few people would be let go by Apple after the events of the past few days...SL ship date in the UK store and this...which, as of noon EST, is still live.

Blah.

Blah.

Blah...

I think it was a joke. You should get that stick looked at soon while a decent surgical team still has a chance of removing it from your rectum.

But if they screw up...hey, you can always sue. :p

These 1st generation iPods do not have a dock connector, correct? Only firewire and therefore cannot be charged through USB?

Anyone know?

The 1 and 2 gs had an actual firewire cable. 6 pin on both ends. So nope.

The 3g had a dock and the new multipin connector, but a 6 pin firewire connection to the computer instead of usb. It was also 2 feet longer! I still used that 3g firewire cord with my iPhone 1g in the bedroom. It will charge the first gen iphone, but when I got my 3g iphone (3Gs) it didn't work. Lame. 1g iphone also came with dock, more cables, cleaning cloth, etc. They keep tweaking down the extras on frills to keep costs competitive I guess.

Apparently you can get Apple Care with it...I would like to take that to the Genius Bar for repairs and see the look on their faces when an 'eight'? year old iPod is still under warranty.

Very strange
I had a friend with a PB G3 under warranty until 2010:D Glitch or what?

I'm also annoyed that Apple didn't update the "Dual Dock" to fit the 3G. Now I have to use the dopey dock cable, not an actual dock, to charge my iPhone and Apple Bluetooth Headset. (I must be one of the only people that actually LIKES the Apple headset. It's one of the few BT headsets that stays in my ear without hurting.)
